Abyss Cores in Crimson Desert

Witches are the only NPCs in Crimson Desert who can socket Abyss Cores into your weapons and armor. You cannot do it yourself. That single fact makes finding all five of them one of the most important things you can do for your build, and Pearl Abyss has hidden most of them well enough that players are missing two or three well into the late game. Here is every witch, their real name, where to find them, and what they unlock.

Why do witches matter in Crimson Desert?

Abyss Cores are sphere items that slot into weapons and armor to add buffs including increased attack power, higher defense, and faster attack speed. You bring the cores to a witch, and she handles the socketing, extracting, and crafting. Beyond that, four of the five witches each run a regional Sanctum questline. Complete their sanctums, and each witch hands over a Witch Token. Collect four tokens and you can unlock the secret White Crow in the Wayward Woods, the sixth and final witch hidden behind a locked door that only opens when all four tokens are inserted.

The Sanctum system alone ties 15 of the game's 16 Sanctums to witch progression. That makes tracking down every witch essential for 100% completion.

How to find the Hermit Witch (Sylvia)

Sylvia is the earliest witch you can access and the easiest to miss entirely. Her cave sits north of Hernand city, tucked into the mountainside with no road leading to it. There is no quest marker pointing you there unless you already know to look.

Head north of Hernand toward the mountain face. Look for an opening in the rock, not a door or a structure, just a gap in the cliff. Walk inside and you will find Sylvia in her lair. She handles embedding Abyss Gear, extracting Abyss Gear, and creating sockets, making her a useful early stop before you even meet Elowen through the story.

Sylvia does not offer a Sanctum questline. She is purely a workshop witch, but having access to her early gives you build flexibility that the story-gated witches cannot provide yet.

How to find the Witch of Wisdom (Elowen)

Elowen is the one witch you cannot miss. She is tied to the main story in Chapter 5, specifically the quest The Missing Seal. After defeating Kearush, one of Chapter 5's main bosses, your objective shifts to rescuing a captive witch. Follow that questline and you will end up at her house.

Her permanent location is in The Witchwoods, southwest of Hernand City. At her shop you can craft, socket, and extract Abyss Cores. Speaking to her also triggers the Witch of Wisdom side quest, which sends you to cleanse four Sanctums in the Hernand region: Sanctum of Temperance, Sanctum of Absolution, Sanctum of Benediction, and Sanctum of Penitence.

How to find the Witch of Kindness (Bari)

Bari requires two separate visits. Her first encounter is not at her home. Travel southwest of Pailune City, north of the "P" marker on the map, to find a small shelter in a snowy mountain area. Bari is huddled underneath it, shivering. There is a campfire nearby. Light it to warm her up, and she will speak to you before disappearing.

After that first interaction, she relocates to her actual home: a cabin sitting in the center of a pond near Silver Wolf Mountain, in the north of Pailune. Head there, go inside, and speak with her to unlock her as a full Abyss Core merchant. This also starts the Witch of Kindness side quest, which covers four Sanctums in the Pailune region: Sanctum of Exaltation, Sanctum of Solace, Sanctum of Deliverance, and Sanctum of Atonement.

How to find the Witch of Humility (Lyselia)

Lyselia starts with a more dramatic first encounter. Head to the broken bridge in northern Demeniss, west of Deadfire Mountain near the Denn River area. You will find a woman hanging from the edge, calling for help. Approach and interact with her to pull her to safety. She reveals herself as Lyselia and vanishes.

Her real lair is in Serpent Marsh, on the island between Demeniss and Delesyia. The location is a hidden cave rather than an obvious cabin. The clearest landmark is colorful hanging flags at the cave entrance. You may need to climb to reach it. Once inside, follow the markers until you find Lyselia standing by a table.

Speaking to her unlocks her merchant services and the Witch of Humility side quest: Sanctum of Devotion, Sanctum of Veneration, Sanctum of Faith, and Sanctum of Oblation.

How to find the Witch of Strength (Areciel)

Areciel is the last witch most players unlock. She sits in the Crimson Desert region, and KeenGamer notes you need to reach Chapter 8 and begin Chapter 9 before the game stops pushing you back out of that zone.

Her disguised form appears near the Tommaso Fork Posthouse in Tashkalp Territory, specifically near the bounty board. The disguise is a child. Lock onto the figure and give a coin to trigger the dialogue. After the interaction, her real location appears on your map.

Areciel's actual home is northwest of World's Navel, built into an alcove carved into the mountainside. Climb up to enter. Once inside, she tells you that you walked in without an invitation and that she is waiting on the roof. Climb up and speak with her there. Her Sanctum questline covers three sanctums in the Crimson Desert region: Sanctum of Expiation, Sanctum of Renunciation, and Sanctum of Revelation.

How to unlock the White Crow

The White Crow is the final witch, located south of the Wayward Woods in Pailune. Her hut has a locked door that cannot be forced open. The only way in is to insert all four Witch Tokens into the hole on the door, one from each regional witch: Elowen, Bari, Lyselia, and Areciel.

You earn each token by completing that witch's full Sanctum questline and returning to speak with her afterward. Once all four tokens are inserted, the door opens. Speak with the White Crow inside to complete the final witch encounter. The 16th Sanctum, Sanctum of Mortification, is story-related and tied to Chapter 9's quest Fragments of Darkness.

Tracking down every witch takes time, but the payoff in build flexibility and Sanctum completion makes it worth the detour. For more Crimson Desert guides covering builds, exploration, and combat systems, browse the latest guides on GAMES.GG.
