Ringing every bell in Crimson Desert is one of the most rewarding early objectives you can pursue. Each of the 8 bells belongs to the Toll of Pywel questline tied to the Priorin Forest Guardians faction, and interacting with one clears the fog from that region of the map. Miss them and you'll be navigating blind for hours. Ring them all and you'll have a fully revealed world from the moment you need it most.
Why Should You Ring All the Bells?
Every bell you ring serves two purposes: it removes the map fog for its surrounding region and advances one quest entry in the Toll of Pywel questline. That questline is tied directly to the Priorin Forest Guardians faction, so completing it matters for faction progress and any associated rewards. Most bells are accessible from Chapter 1 onward, which means you can knock out the majority of them before the story locks certain areas.
danger
The Toll of Calphade bell becomes temporarily inaccessible during Chapter 6 because the area turns hostile. Ring it before Chapter 6 begins or wait until after it concludes — attempting it mid-chapter means the Shai Resident NPC won't appear and the quest won't register.

Where Are All 8 Bell Locations in Crimson Desert?
Here's a quick reference table before the detailed breakdown:
Bell 1: Toll of Hernand
Head to the northern section of Hernand town and look for the clocktower. Climb to the top and interact with the bell. This is the most straightforward of the eight and a great starting point since it sits in an early-game area.

Bell 2: Toll of Scholastone
Scholastone Institute sits in the south-west of the Hernand region, perched on top of a mountain. The bell itself is inside a pagoda at the end of the garden path in the institute's plaza. Getting there requires some vertical traversal — climb the surrounding mountain slopes to reach the tower.
info
You can use Force Palm three times consecutively in midair (triggered with R3) to launch yourself to significant heights. This makes reaching Scholastone much faster than trying to find a winding path up the mountain.Bell 3: Toll of Calphade
This bell sits atop a church in the northern part of the Hernand region. The location itself isn't hard to reach, but timing matters. Ring it any time before Chapter 6 or return after Chapter 6 concludes. During that chapter, the area becomes a hostile zone and the Shai Resident NPC won't spawn, which means the bell interaction won't count toward the questline.
Bell 4: Toll of Demeniss
This is the trickiest bell in the set. Located in the capital of Demeniss (the central region), it sits at the top of the tallest clocktower in the city. What makes it tricky: the bell icon doesn't appear on your map until after you've already activated the bell.
To reach it, find the flagpole attached to the side of the clocktower. Hang from it — your character's weight will push the flagpole downward, which mechanically lowers the bell into a reachable position at the top floor. Climb up and ring it.
Bell 5: Toll of Delesyia
Found inside the capital city of the Delesyia region in the south-east of the map. The clocktower you want is in the north-west part of town. Straightforward to reach with no special conditions or mechanics involved.
Bell 6: Toll of Tommaso
Located in the Capital of Tashkalp, which sits in the Crimson Desert region (north-east). No special requirements here — just travel to Tashkalp and find the bell in the capital.
Bell 7: Toll of Varnia
Varnia sits at the far north-east edge of the entire map, well past the Crimson Desert region itself. The journey is long, so plan accordingly. The most reliable route is to follow the main roads heading north through the Crimson Desert until you reach the region boundary and then Varnia beyond it. Don't try to cut through unmarked terrain — stick to the roads.
Bell 8: Toll of Pailune
The Toll of Pailune is the only bell with a hard story gate. You cannot ring it until you've liberated Pailune as part of Chapter 7, specifically after completing the main mission called Resolution. Before that point, Pailune is under siege and the Shai Resident NPC cannot appear in hostile zones.
Once Pailune is free, head to the middle of town, locate the red tower near the docks, climb it, and ring the bell.
warning
Don't spend time hunting this bell early in the game. The siege makes the area hostile regardless of your approach, and the bell interaction simply won't complete until after the Resolution mission in Chapter 7.

What Order Should You Ring the Bells?
For efficiency, ring bells 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 as early as possible in Chapter 1 while exploring naturally. Bell 3 (Calphade) should be prioritized before Chapter 6 begins to avoid the timing issue. Bell 4 (Demeniss) can be grabbed whenever you pass through the central region. Bell 7 (Varnia) requires a long trek north-east, so save it for when you're exploring that side of the map. Bell 8 (Pailune) is locked to Chapter 7 completion and should be your final stop.
Tips for Completing the Toll of Pywel Questline
- Each bell interaction triggers a short cutscene featuring a Shai Resident NPC — if the cutscene doesn't play, the bell hasn't counted toward the questline.
- Hostile areas prevent the Shai Resident from spawning, which is why timing matters for bells 3 and 8.
- The Force Palm midair technique (three consecutive uses with R3) is your best traversal tool for reaching elevated bell locations like Scholastone.
- Bell 4 in Demeniss won't appear on your map until you've already triggered it — don't rely on the map icon to find it.
