Pywel is enormous. Pearl Abyss has confirmed the map is larger than both Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption 2, which sounds exciting until you realize you've spent 20 minutes on horseback just getting between two quest markers. The fast travel system in Crimson Desert fixes that problem, but only if you know how to find it. The game's tutorial tooltip barely explains anything useful, so here's everything you actually need to know.
What are the two types of fast travel in Crimson Desert?
Crimson Desert has two distinct fast travel point types, and they work differently enough that it's worth understanding both before you start hunting for them.
Abyss Nexus points are stone plates set into the ground with a distinctive engraved circular pattern. You unlock them simply by standing on the center. No puzzle, no prerequisites. These are the fastest to grab and should be your priority early on.
Abyss Cressets are special pedestals charged with Abyssal energy. Most require you to solve an environmental puzzle before the cresset activates as a teleport point. The upside: completing a cresset also rewards you with an Abyss Artifact, which functions as a skill point. So they're worth the extra effort.

Activating an Abyss Nexus point
A third glowing point type you'll encounter is the Sealed Abyss Artifact, a collectible cube that goes into your inventory. These are not fast travel points, just a common source of confusion when you're scanning the world with Blinding Flash.
How to find Abyss Nexus spots using Blinding Flash
The map won't hand you fast travel locations. Areas you haven't explored appear shrouded in fog, and points of interest show up as a large question mark rather than a labeled icon. That question mark is your cue that something worth investigating is nearby, possibly a fast travel point.
Here's the most reliable method for tracking them down:
- Spot a question mark region on your map.
- Find a high vantage point overlooking that area.
- Activate Blinding Flash by holding LB + RB on controller, or Ctrl + Left Mouse Button on PC.
- Scan the surroundings for small blue glints of light. Each glint marks a point of interest.
- Navigate to each glinting spot and confirm what it contains on foot.
Blinding Flash doesn't distinguish between Abyss Nexus points, Abyss Cressets, and Sealed Artifacts. You'll see multiple glints in a single area, and not all of them will be fast travel points. The only way to confirm is to physically reach each one.
How to use fast travel once you've unlocked a point
Once you've stepped on an Abyss Nexus or completed an Abyss Cresset puzzle, the point is permanently unlocked. To teleport:
- Open your map.
- Hover over the fast travel icon.
- Press Triangle (PS5) or Y (Xbox) to teleport instantly.
Also worth knowing: certain active quests and scripted locations will block fast travel temporarily. If the teleport option is greyed out, finishing the current objective usually clears it.
Which abilities do you need for Abyss Cresset puzzles?
Several cresset puzzles are gated behind story-unlocked abilities. Trying to brute-force them before you have the right tools wastes time. Here are the four abilities that matter most:
- Force Palm: Learned during the quest Abyss Without Balance at the end of Chapter 1. Lets you push objects using spirit energy.
- Nature's Grasp: Unlocked in Chapter 2 during Unexpected Gift at Lioncrest Watchtower. Moves objects similarly to the mechanic in Breath of the Wild.
- Focus: Also from Unexpected Gift. Slows time and regenerates your spirit meter, which fuels most ability use.
- Stab: Available midway through Chapter 3 when you face the Reed Devil. You learn it via the Watch and Learn prompt during the fight's first phase.
If a puzzle involves pushing circular stones, you need Force Palm. If it involves pulling down a wall or repositioning objects at range, that's Nature's Grasp. Most early-game cressets become accessible once you have all four abilities, so the general advice is to hold off on puzzle-heavy locations until you're at least halfway through Chapter 3.
Early fast travel points worth unlocking near Hernand
Hernand Town is where most players spend their first several hours, so locking down nearby teleport points early pays off significantly. Here are the four most valuable ones to grab as soon as possible.

Set map filter to Environment
Three Saints' Falls Abyss Nexus
Located southwest of Three Saints' Falls, this Nexus sits at the base of a large rocky cliff, right beside the Shadows' Whisper Cave. The cave houses a Witch NPC who helps you work with your Abyss Gears, so having a teleport point here gives you fast access to both the cave and the surrounding area.
Abyss Cresset of Meandering Hills
This is the first cresset most players will encounter. You reach it naturally after liberating Lioncrest Watchtower during Unexpected Gift. The puzzle inside uses Force Palm to push three circular stones while Focus keeps your spirit meter topped up. Completing it also teaches you the Visione helm mechanic for reading memory fragments. Once solved, the cresset is just outside the puzzle room to your right.
Abyss Cresset of A Hill Guided by Light
Found north of Bloomwood Ranch, southwest of Anvil Hill, this one is the easiest early cresset because it requires no puzzle at all. Climb to the top, walk up to the cresset, and collect it. The only hazard is patches of poison scattered around the approach, so watch your step.
Karin Quarry Abyss Nexus
East of Three Saints' Falls and just north of the local trading post, this Nexus overlooks Karin Quarry, which is controlled by a group of Bleed Bandits tied to the Stolen Quarry faction quest. Having a teleport point here means you can restock supplies and return quickly when you're ready to take on the bandit camp. Cairn House, a minerals merchant stocking Stone, Copper, and Iron ores, is also nearby.
Fast travel points by region: what to know
Once you move beyond Hernand, each region has its own cluster of teleport points. Here's a quick breakdown of what to prioritize as you push further into Pywel.

Abyss island fast travel network
Calphade and Pailune
Heading north from Hernand, there's a teleporter on Haunted Hill along the route to Calphade, and another just west of Calphade town itself. Northwest of the village of Beighen, there's a fast travel point near the gambling minigame area. Avoid going east of Beighen early on since enemies there scale well above starter-level gear. Once you reach Pailune, the former Greymane stronghold, tag the teleporter to the west immediately.
Demeniss
The region around Demeniss has a solid density of fast travel points. The one near the fair just outside the city gates is the most useful for regular supply runs. On the eastern edge, an Abyss Nexus sits next to the Spire of Clockwork. Serpent Marsh contains two teleporters, one near a Witch's hut and another close to the Monk's village.
Delesyia
Delesyia takes longer to reach, but the region has several noteworthy points. Gorthak, the Ironflame Orc stronghold, has three Abyss Nexuses, though they're placed far from most NPCs. The Dewhaven Keep Nexus is particularly worth grabbing since the keep has a research institute. At the southwestern tip, the Serpent Shrine of Aeserion has two Abyss Cressets that require no puzzle to complete.
Crimson Desert (Tashkalp)
The game's namesake region arrives late in the campaign. Tommaso, the largest town in Tashkalp, has three fast travel points surrounding it. Near the Spire of the Sun, two teleporters are close together, but one of them triggers a Crookrock Walker world boss spawn, so be ready for a fight. In Urdavah, three fast travel points sit high on the mountains and require gliding to reach.
How does the Abyss realm fast travel work?
The Abyss is a separate zone made up of floating islands above Pywel, and it has its own fast travel network. Every island contains one fast travel point, making navigation between islands manageable once you're familiar with the layout.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Each island is a self-contained puzzle area. You need to cross gaps using jumping platforms, wind currents, fans, and island-to-island teleporters.
- Falling off an island respawns you at the previous island, not at your current position. This can cost significant time.
- If you're falling and haven't reached a new island yet, activate your Axiom Force grapple move to hang in mid-air. Pausing from that state respawns you at a checkpoint on the current island rather than sending you back further.
- Damiane cannot use Abyss fast travel points. Only Kliff can activate and teleport between them.
One practical trick: if there's no surface fast travel point near your destination, check whether an Abyss island sits above the area. Skydiving down from an Abyss teleport point is often faster than riding across the surface.
