The Armor of the Shadows set is one of the sharpest-looking gear sets in Crimson Desert, and the stats back up the aesthetics. Five pieces spread across the northern reaches of Hernand and beyond, most hidden behind environmental puzzles rather than locked behind a single boss. That last part matters, because the one piece that does require a boss fight is gated behind Chapter 6 and one of the toughest encounters in the game.
Here's every location broken down, along with the stats for each piece so you know exactly what you're picking up before you make the trip.
What is the Armor of the Shadows set?
The Armor of the Shadows is a five-piece plate armor set developed by Pearl Abyss for Crimson Desert. Each piece carries Refinement 3 out of the box, and the chest piece slots 3 Abyss Gears, making it one of the more flexible armor options for build customization. The set spans five slots: helm, chest, cloak, gloves, and boots.
Four of the five pieces sit in open-world locations you can reach without clearing major story content. The helm is the exception — it requires defeating Beloth, the Darksworn, a Chapter 6 boss in Hoenmark Ruins. If you're not there yet, the Frostcursed Plate Helm found at Chattering Rocks is a strong visual and functional substitute.
info
The Plate Armor of the Shadows chest piece has a DEF of 13 according to Game8's stat database, while GameRant lists it at 10. The Game8 figure reflects the full stat sheet including base values, so treat 13 as the more complete reference.
How to get the Plate Armor of the Shadows (chest)
The chest piece sits in a small cave near the Everfrost Watchtower in the Argent Peaks, north of Hernand. Head north past Hoenmark Ruins until you reach the watchtower area. On the south side, look for a locked door built into a rock wall. There's a lantern next to it — interact with it to lower the spikes and open the door. The Plate Armor of the Shadows is inside the treasure chest.
Watch out for Bleed Bandits stationed around this area. They hit hard if you're caught off guard.

Light the lantern to open the door
How to get the Plate Cloak of the Shadows
The cloak is in Hoenmark Ruins, north of the "H" in Hernand on the map. This area has an active blizzard, so stock up on food or equip ice-resistant armor before heading in — the cold damage adds up quickly during the search.
There are flying enemies in the ruins. You can avoid most of them by running directly to the target spot: a rooftop to the left side of the ruins. On the floor, you'll spot a snowy brick tile pattern that looks slightly different from the surrounding floor. Crouch, then use Force Palm on the ground to flip the tiles and drop into a hidden room below. The cloak is in the treasure chest inside.
info
Bring cold-resistance food before entering Hoenmark Ruins. The blizzard deals constant damage, and getting caught in a fight while your health is draining from the cold is a quick way to lose your loot run.
How to get the Plate Boots of the Shadows
The boots are in Frostclaw Cave, found by following the river southwest underneath Hernand on the map. When you reach the marked position, you'll come across a waterfall. Stand at the base of the waterfall and use Stab (R1 + Triangle on PlayStation) to enter through the water. Inside, a treasure chest holds the Plate Boots of the Shadows.
The Stab-through-waterfall mechanic isn't obvious the first time, but it works consistently at this location.
How to get the Plate Gloves of the Shadows
The gloves are inside Everfrost Cave, located in the far east area of Hernand. Follow the river running beneath Hernand on the map, then turn left up the rocky mountain terrain. There's a cave entrance built into the wall — it's not marked prominently, so follow the river until you get the "end of the world" boundary warning, then start climbing. The gloves are sitting inside the cave without any puzzle requirement.
How to get the Plate Helm of the Shadows
This is the only piece tied to a boss fight. Beloth, the Darksworn appears in the House Lanford Faction Quest called Wraith in the Frost, set in Hoenmark Ruins. You won't reach this quest until Chapter 6, roughly halfway through the main campaign. Beloth drops the Plate Helm of the Shadows as part of the quest loot.
If you're earlier in the story, the Frostcursed Plate Helm is a solid alternative. It's found at Chattering Rocks, far north of the "D" in Demeniss on the map. Inside the location, burn down a vine-covered wall using Blinding Flash (L1 + R1 + L1), then deal with the stone enemies guarding the area. The helm is in the treasure chest behind the vines.
warning
Beloth, the Darksworn is described by multiple sources as extremely overpowered for players who encounter him before completing significant story content. Don't attempt this fight underprepared — clear more of the main campaign first and ensure your gear is fully refined.
