The Kuku Rocket Pack is one of Crimson Desert's most satisfying pieces of kit, and it's completely missable. Skip the right faction quest in Pailune and you'll finish the entire game without ever sending Oongka airborne. That's a shame, because the jetpack opens up floating island exploration and makes vertical traversal across Pywel dramatically faster. Here's everything you need to get it.
What do you need before unlocking the Kuku Rocket Pack?
The jetpack sits behind a hard gate: you cannot start the unlock chain until you reach Chapter 8 of the main story. Pushing through to this chapter opens Pailune as a fully operational hub city, populating it with merchants, NPCs, and faction quests.
Once Pailune is live, two quest lines become relevant:
- The Fire Breathing Pack faction quest, which leads you to Grimnir's assistant and the jetpack blueprint
- The Witch of Wisdom faction quest, which contains the Sanctum of Penitence dungeon required for the base Kuku Pack blueprint
Both quest lines must be completed. Skipping either one blocks progress toward the final rocket pack.
The Kuku Rocket Pack is permanently missable. If you advance the main story past the relevant Pailune window without completing these faction quests, you may lose access during that playthrough.

Equipping the Kuku Rocket Pack
How to get Blueprint I: the base Kuku Pack
Before you can build the rocket version, you need the base Kuku Pack. This comes from completing the Sanctum of Penitence as part of the Witch of Wisdom faction quest. The dungeon requires some puzzle work:
- Locate the floating block near the Sanctum entrance
- Use your Axiom Force ability to grab and move the block
- Carry it back to the broken kiln and rotate it to the correct orientation before placing it on the bottom-left tower
- Jump onto the block and use Force Palm to lock it into position
A cutscene plays after the kiln is repaired, and you receive Blueprint I: Kuku Pack automatically.
With that blueprint in hand, head to the Kilnden Workshop (located west of the Abyss Nexus) and craft the base unit at the Mysterious Iron Pot. You need:
- 1x Peddler's Pack
- 1x Kuku Pot
How to unlock Blueprint II and craft the Kuku Rocket Pack
With the base Kuku Pack crafted, the next step is getting the advanced blueprint. Head to the south side of Pailune city and find Grimnir's assistant. Approach him and he'll hand you a document called the "Letter from Grimnir."
Once the blueprint is registered, return to the Kilnden Workshop and speak directly with Grimnir at the Mysterious Iron Pot. Assemble the following materials to complete the craft:
The ores are the easiest part. Both Iron Ore and Copper Ore drop from mining nodes scattered across Pywel and are stocked by most equipment shops and traveling merchants. Cogwheels require a bit more effort, coming primarily from Abyss enemy drops and regional chests. Small Batteries are the tightest resource: the most reliable source is defeating Pirates in Demeniss, though breaking certain environmental objects also yields them.

Stamina management during flight
How does the Kuku Rocket Pack work in flight?
The jetpack is exclusive to Oongka. Other characters like Kliff have innate gliding abilities, but Oongka lacks those by default, making the rocket pack his primary tool for reaching high-altitude areas and the floating islands of Pywel.
To use it:
- Open your inventory, navigate to the Tools tab, select the Kuku Rocket Pack, and press Equip
- While airborne, press the Jump button a second time to ignite the thrusters and gain vertical lift
- Monitor your stamina bar. The pack runs entirely on stamina with no separate fuel mechanic. When stamina hits zero, the thrusters cut out immediately
The flight behavior mirrors Kliff's gliding mechanic in terms of stamina drain, so players already familiar with managing Kliff's glide will adapt quickly. The key difference is that the rocket pack provides active vertical thrust rather than a passive glide, making it better for climbing than for covering horizontal distance.
