Stuck waiting for daytime in Crimson Desert, or trying to nudge a time-locked quest objective forward? The game gives you exactly one mechanic to skip ahead, and it comes with a cooldown that trips up a lot of players early on. Here's everything you need to know about managing time in Pywel.
How do you pass time in Crimson Desert?
The only way to advance time in Crimson Desert is to rest at a bed or bonfire. Any bed or bonfire works, not just ones tied to Kliff's personal quarters. Random campsites scattered across Pywel, houses in towns, your Greymane Camp, and the Royal Trading Post all count.
When you interact with a bed, you get three options for how far to skip ahead:
- 3 hours
- 6 hours
- 12 hours
For bonfires, the process is slightly different. Press CTRL on keyboard (or LB on controller) to inspect the bonfire up close, then select the wait option from the prompt that appears.
info
Bonfires are often faster to find than beds when you're out exploring. Any campsite in the wild will have one, so you're rarely far from a time-skip option.

Rest menu time options
What is the rest cooldown, and how does it work?
This is the part that catches players off guard. You cannot rest back-to-back. After sleeping or waiting at a bonfire, the game locks you out until Kliff is tired again.
Each in-game hour equals five real-time minutes. Between rests, you need to wait at least 10 in-game hours, which translates to roughly 50 real-time minutes before the option becomes available again.
There's no visible fatigue meter or on-screen indicator telling you when Kliff is tired enough to rest. Your best approach is to treat resting as a once-per-day action and fill the gap with side quests, challenges, or exploration rather than standing around waiting.
warning
Trying to spam rest to rush Dispatch Missions won't work. The cooldown is firm, so plan your Greymane mission timers around actual play sessions rather than trying to skip through them artificially.
Where can you find beds and bonfires?
Beds and bonfires appear throughout Pywel with enough regularity that you're never far from one. The most reliable locations include:
The game doesn't restrict you to a personal bed the way some RPGs do. Walk into any house and lie down without consequence.
info
The Greymane Camp becomes accessible as you progress through the main story. Once unlocked, it's one of the most convenient rest spots since you'll be returning there frequently anyway.
How does the quest hourglass shortcut work?
Some quests require you to wait for a specific time of day before an NPC appears or an event triggers. Crimson Desert handles this with a dedicated shortcut that bypasses the standard rest mechanic entirely.
When you arrive at a quest location where the objective says "wait for the right time", an hourglass icon appears on the side of your screen. Selecting it skips directly to the required time without consuming your rest cooldown.
The Chapter 2 quest to find Wooly (the Missing Companion quest) is a good example. Entering the relevant house triggers the "Wait for the right time" message at the bottom of the screen. On PC, pressing ESC (or the menu button on controller) skips to the correct time automatically.
Not every time-gated quest uses this system. The hourglass only appears when the objective is close enough to your current position, so some quests will still require you to rest manually or wait out the cooldown.
