FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves hit the competitive scene hard and fast. The SNK World Championship and the FGC World Cup pulled the best players in the world into serious bracket play almost immediately after launch, and the meta has been shaped by real tournament results ever since. This tier list reflects what those players actually picked, what won, and what got exposed.
SNK shipped the base game with 17 fighters, and Season Passes 1 and 2 add 11 more DLC characters across a monthly release schedule. The tiers below are built from tournament data spanning CEO 2025, Combo Breaker 2025, Evo Japan 2026, and several major regional events. Season 2 is still rolling out, so Mr. Karate and Kenshiro sit in their own unranked category until the community gets enough reps in.
This tier list is updated based on competitive results. As Season 2 DLC continues to release, rankings for newer characters will shift. Check back after major events.

S tier: Who is dominating tournaments right now?
These six characters show up in top 8 brackets at major events consistently. If you want to compete seriously, learning at least one of them is worth your time.

Billy Kane top-tier pressure
Billy had one of the most dominant early showings of any character in recent fighting games history. At CEO 2025, four of the top 8 players ran Billy, including all three podium finishes. Xiao Hai then won Evo Japan 2026 with him, cementing Billy as the most proven pick in the current meta.
Gato was everywhere in the losers bracket at Evo Japan 2026. Laggia rode him to the grand final, and CientifiKOF along with Poongko both made top 8 appearances with the character. He rewards aggression and punishes hesitation.
Hokutomaru has backing from some of the most recognizable names in the FGC. mok won the SNK Championship Series 2025 Beijing event with him. ET and Supernoon both play the character regularly at top level. NYChrisG finished top 6 at Evo Japan 2026 on Hokutomaru, and analysts noted that a few specific SPG positioning choices cost him a potentially higher finish.
Hotaru is the rare character who works for beginners and still holds up under tournament pressure. ZJZ, Justin Wong, and Wero Asamiya all played her at events like Combo Breaker 2025 and Headstomper 2025. Laggia won the SNK World Championship 2025 with Hotaru before switching to Gato for Evo Japan 2026.
Kain is what Reynald used to reach top 2 at Combo Breaker 2025. Fenritti won the Brussels Challenge Major Edition 2025 with him, and GamerBee has been running Kain at EWC and SWC qualifiers.
Marco is GO1's main, and GO1 won Combo Breaker 2025 with him. The Frosty Faustings XVIII grand final was a Marco mirror match, which tells you everything about how dominant the character is in the right hands. GO1 also beat Laggia in a first-to-seven exhibition before Evo Japan 2026, Marco over Gato.
S-tier characters are strong, but the players behind them matter just as much. Hotaru is the safest starting point if you want tournament viability without a steep execution barrier.
A tier: Strong picks with a narrower ceiling
Preecha stepped into the spotlight at Evo Japan 2026 when ZJZ switched to the character and finished top 3. The data on Preecha is still building, but that result alone earns the A placement.
Mr. Big is a DLC addition who made his presence felt quickly. Top 8 appearances at both DreamHack Birmingham 2026 and Texas Showdown 2026, plus Nemo's top 8 run at Evo Japan 2026, show the character has real competitive legs.
Rock plays like a balanced Shoto with no obvious holes in his kit. SHADOW X took him to 4th at Headstomper 2025, and at Evo Japan 2026, his movement speed proved useful against Billy's extended stick attacks. Young Japanese player mi2ha4 demonstrated just how much room Rock has to grow at that event.
Terry is iconic but inconsistent at the top level. DarkAngel won Headstomper 2025 with Terry Bogard, which qualified him for both the SNK World Championship Finals and the FGC World Cup 2025. That result keeps Terry in A tier despite the erratic tournament showings.
Andy, Chun-Li, and Ken round out the tier. Gummy won Texas Showdown 2026 with Andy as one of his active characters. Chun-Li and Ken both reached top 6 at that same event, which suggests SNK tuned the Capcom guest fighters to be genuinely competitive rather than just fan service.

Hotaru vs Gato at SWC 2025
B tier: Occasional tournament presence
These characters appear at events but rarely crack top 8 at the biggest shows. They have real tools, and a dedicated player can go far with them at regional level.
Kevin made top 8 at CEO 2025 through Qiuqiu, and Coach Steve reached the grand final at City of the Cream LIVE with him. The results exist, but they are not consistent across major events.
Joe Higashi brings solid Muay Thai tools to the table and is a strong casual pick. The top-level results just have not materialized yet.
Ronaldo gets picked partly for spectacle, and Diaphone ran him at BAM 15. He tends to appear in early pools rather than deep bracket runs.
Nightmare Geese, Kim Jae Hoon, Blue Mary, and Wolfgang Krauser all have workable kits in the current meta. Blue Mary and Krauser are recent DLC additions, so the community is still figuring out their optimal play patterns.
B-tier characters are not bad, but they require more specific matchup knowledge to win consistently at high-level play. Going in blind with them against S-tier mains will be rough.
C and D tier: Casual play territory
Mai and B. Jenet are popular picks with recognizable tools like fan projectiles and mixup pressure. They can win ranked matches, and a tournament run is not impossible, but the ceiling is lower than the tiers above.
Vox and Kim Dong Hwan are fun to play and suit specific personal styles. Competitive results with either character are rare.
Salvatore Ganacci is a deliberate joke character. The real-world Salvatore attended Evo Japan 2025 to play alongside the community, and his in-game version reflects that energy. Spectacular moves, limited serious application.
Tizoc is a grappler in a game full of fireballs. Slow, large, and punishable at range. He needs targeted buffs to move up.
What about Mr. Karate and Kenshiro?
Mr. Karate was revealed at Evo Japan 2026 and is expected to release in May 2026. Based on the trailer, the character appears to play around kicks and Kyokugen Karate in a style distinct from Marco Rodriguez, who already covers the Ryo and Takuma side of that school. Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star is confirmed as the sixth and final Season 2 character.
Both are too new to place meaningfully in the tier list. Season 2 is releasing one character per month, so expect rankings to update as tournament data comes in.
Season 2 is still active as of late May 2026. Any tier placement for Mr. Karate or Kenshiro before major tournament results would be speculation, not data.
How should you pick your main?
The honest answer is to play whoever clicks for you mechanically first. Tier lists reflect what the best players in the world can do with a character, not what a new player will achieve. That said, Hotaru is the most forgiving entry point into competitive play, with genuine tournament pedigree behind her. Rock is the next best option if you want a balanced Shoto without a complex execution requirement.
If you are already comfortable with the game and want to climb ranked, Billy, Gato, and Marco all have the deepest wells of tournament proof behind them.
