All New 1 level Glamour Sets from 5.5 ...

Final Fantasy XIV players have been waiting years for this moment. Patch 7.4, titled Into the Mist, finally stripped away the job, role, and level restrictions that had locked armor glamours behind specific class walls for so long. Warriors of Light everywhere can now wear virtually any piece of armor on any job, opening up a creative space that simply did not exist before.

What does that freedom actually look like in practice? The community has answered that question with some genuinely stunning outfits. This guide breaks down the most creative looks players have built since the restrictions lifted, complete with exact item sources so you can recreate them yourself.

What Changed With the Patch 7.4 Glamour Update?

Before Patch 7.4, glamouring armor in FFXIV required the item used as the glamour source to share the same job or role category as the gear being glamoured. A Black Mage could not wear a tank chest piece as a glamour, and a Dancer was locked out of heavy armor visuals entirely.

Patch 7.4 removed those restrictions for most armor slots. The main exception that remains is weapons, which still cannot be glamoured across entirely different weapon types. Every other slot is now fair game across all jobs and roles.

This change also unlocked the Glamour Plate system to its full potential. Players can now save cross-role outfits directly to plates and apply them freely when switching jobs, making it practical to maintain a distinct look for every class you play.

Why Does This Update Matter So Much?

The previous restriction created a frustrating situation where a piece of armor might look perfect for a concept you had in mind, but be completely off-limits because it was flagged for a different role. Players would build elaborate glamours only to hit a wall when swapping jobs.

The new system means that items like the Ivalician Holy Knight's Armor, previously restricted to tanks, can now be worn by casters like Black Mage. That specific combination, pairing heavy plate armor with a magical weapon, was completely impossible before Patch 7.4. Now it is one of the most popular aesthetic archetypes in the community.

Patch 7.4 also introduced the Command Panel, a new UI element with four separate panels offering 25 slots each, which helps players manage gear sets and outfits without cluttering their main hotbars. The Strategy Board was also added, though that feature targets raid coordination rather than fashion directly.

Community Spotlight: Standout Outfits After the Restriction Lift

The following looks were shared by players who took advantage of the new freedom immediately after Patch 7.4 launched. Each one highlights something that was genuinely impossible before the update.

The Nerdy Armoured Mage (Hikari)

This Lalafell look combines the Ivalician Holy Knight's Armor from The Orbonne Monastery with the Edenmorn Rod from Eden's Promise: Eternity (Savage). The chest piece was previously locked to tanks, meaning it could only be paired with tank weapons. Now it sits on a Black Mage, creating a distinctly scholarly-yet-armored aesthetic that nods to Agrias from Final Fantasy Tactics.

The finishing touches include the Quaintrelle's Hat (available via crafting, Marketboard, or various lockboxes including the Southern Front Lockbox and Zadnor Lockbox) and Blue Elegant Rimless Glasses purchased for 90,000 MGP from the Gold Saucer Attendant.

The Ceremonial Sage (Vell Silversun)

This outfit was built specifically to complement the Ceremonial Pendulums for Sage, which are crafted by a Goldsmith or purchased from the Marketboard. The weapons are bright and colorful, so the rest of the outfit was designed to match that energy using the dual dye channel system introduced in the Dawntrail expansion.

The Crested Coat of Gathering (Weaver craft or Marketboard) and Ark Angel's Breeches of Healing from Jeuno: The First Walk anchor the look, while the Diamond Circlet of Healing ties the color scheme together.

The Melee Boots Red Mage (Nya Nya)

This look is a perfect example of what the glamour update actually means emotionally for players. Nya Nya had long wanted to use the Edenmorn Thighboots of Scouting on a Red Mage build, but those boots were locked to melee DPS. The restriction lifted, and ironically the outfit she built ended up being designed for a melee class anyway. The beauty of the update, as she put it, is that the intent no longer matters.

The Forerider's Coat from Mewazunte in Tuliyollal pairs with Mayakov Tights of Scouting from San d'Oria: The Second Walk. The gloves create the visual illusion that the shirt extends beneath the jacket, and the purple frills on the boots echo the top perfectly.

The Night Circus-Inspired Look (Wystaria)

This outfit was directly inspired by the cover of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, a black-and-white palette with sharp red accents. The key is not just the items but the specific dye combinations. The Boltrise Hat uses Jet Black and Ruby Red dyes, the Scion Adventurer's Jacket uses Pure White and Ruby Red, and the Bihu Kecks use Pure White and Jet Black.

General-Purpose Jet Black Dye and General-Purpose Pure White Dye can both be obtained from sources including Fête Presents in Ishgard Restoration, various Accursed Hoards across deep content (Heaven-on-High, Eureka Orthos, Pilgrim's Traverse), Sanctuary Materiel Containers on Island Sanctuary, and the Marketboard. Ruby Red Dye is available from Enie in The Firmament for 100 Skybuilders Scrip, from the Horrendous Hoarder on Island Sanctuary for 500 Seafarer's Cowrie, or for 600 Cosmocredit from Mesouaidonque vendors in Oizys, Phaenna, or Sinus Ardorum.

The Wandering Scholar (Koni)

Koni's outfit was built around the Archmage's Coat, which was previously locked to Magic Ranged DPS. Now that it is freely glamourable, it functions less like a job piece and more like a traveler's mantle. The concept behind the look is a wanderer who collects stories rather than trophies.

The Neo Kingdom Chapeau of Scouting from Ryubool Ja in Tuliyollal for 45 Sacks of Nuts sits on top, while Kupo Trousers from the Coffer o' Kupos (Kupo of Fortune) and Augmented Credendum Longboots of Scouting (345 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics from Agora Merchant in Old Sharlayan or Cihanti in Radz-at-Han) complete the silhouette.

The Fancy Portrait Artist (Idgie)

Idgie's Pictomancer outfit aims for the look of a formal portrait painter who might work for old-world nobility. What makes this look notable is the deliberate use of low-level combat gear, specifically items with lower-resolution textures that many players overlook. The Gemfiend's Vest (225 Purple Crafters' Scrips from any Purple Scrip Exchange NPC) pairs with Asphodelos Halfgloves of Striking from the Asphodelos raid tier and Edenmorn Hose of Fending, previously locked to tanks.

The Ivalician Enchanter's Eyeglasses from The Royal City of Rabanastre add a scholarly finishing touch, and the Ultimate Edenmorn Round Brush from Uah'shepya in Solution Nine for 1x Oracle Totem serves as the weapon.

How to Find Items for Cross-Role Glamours

What Are the Best Sources for Glamour Materials?

Now that cross-role glamouring is possible, the pool of desirable items has expanded dramatically. Here are the most reliable ways to track down specific pieces:

  • Allagan Tomestones of Poetics remain the most accessible currency for older gear. Many glamour staples from Heavensward through Shadowbringers are available from Agora Merchant in Old Sharlayan or Cihanti in Radz-at-Han.
  • Sacks of Nuts from Hunt activities unlock a solid range of gear from Ryubool Ja and J'lakshai vendors in Old Sharlayan and Tuliyollal.
  • Centurio Seals from Clan Hunts unlock items like the Caller's Armlets from Yolaine in Foundation.
  • The Marketboard is the fastest option for crafted items and many older drops, though prices vary significantly by server.
  • Raid loot from Normal and Savage tiers (Eden, Asphodelos, Abyssos, Anabaseios, Arcadion) provides some of the most visually distinct pieces in the game.
  • Purple and Orange Scrip Exchange NPCs offer crafting and gathering gear that translates surprisingly well into combat glamours.

Tips for Building Your First Cross-Role Glamour

If you are just getting started with the new system, here is a practical approach to building something you will actually want to wear:

  1. Start with a signature piece. Pick one item that defines the aesthetic you want, whether it is a chest piece, boots, or a distinctive accessory. Build everything else around it.
  2. Check dye compatibility early. Not every piece accepts dye, and some only have one channel while others have two. Confirm dye options before committing to a color concept.
  3. Use the Eorzea Collection website for inspiration. The community regularly posts glamours there, and many players reference specific items that sparked their ideas.
  4. Do not ignore older raid gear. Items from Heavensward and Stormblood raids often have unique silhouettes that newer gear does not replicate, and many are now available for Poetics.
  5. Budget for event store items. Some of the most distinctive glamour pieces from older seasonal events are no longer earnable in-game but remain purchasable through the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store.
