Two New Hunters Enter the Fight

NetEase dropped the Season 7 trailer on March 17, and it confirmed what many players had been anticipating: Black Cat and White Fox are both joining Marvel Rivals when the season goes live on March 20, 2026. The season is titled The Hunt is On, and the name fits. Black Cat is a master thief built around high-stakes heists, while White Fox is a South Korean superhero with shapeshifting abilities tied to her nine-tailed fox form. Two stealth-adjacent, agility-focused characters dropping at the same time is a deliberate statement about the direction of this new season.

The story framing is equally bold. Forces from 2099's Nueva York are spilling into modern-day New York, turning the city into a battleground for a temporal plague spreading from Alchemax Tower. Mayor Wilson Fisk, not exactly known for restraint, is declaring martial law. Black Cat and White Fox are navigating the chaos in the shadows, and based on the trailer, their paths collide in a way that looks anything but friendly at first.

A Universal Nerf That Changes Everything

The new heroes are exciting, but the balance changes are what will actually reshape how the game feels to play. For the first time in the game's history, every single character is receiving a 20% nerf to their ultimate ability charge rate. Every hero. No exceptions.

That's a significant shift. Ultimates in Marvel Rivals have always been central to how fights swing, and slowing down how quickly everyone builds charge means matches will play out differently at a fundamental level. Expect longer skirmishes before ultimates flip the tide, and more emphasis on raw ability usage and positioning.

NetEase also confirmed that later in the season, crowd control effects will receive a separate nerf pass. The developers are clearly looking at the game's pacing and deciding it needs to slow down a bit.

Who's Getting Buffed, Who's Getting Hit

Beyond the universal change, the Season 7 patch notes cover a wide range of individual hero adjustments. Here's a breakdown of the notable shifts:

Vanguards

  • Hulk gets a significant buff: Gamma Burst now has two charges with a 6s cooldown each, and his ultimate charge conversion from absorbed damage increases from 100% to 130%.
  • Emma Frost is toned down, with her Diamond Form damage reduction dropping from 25% to 20%.
  • Deadpool (Vanguard) sees his damage reduction nerfed from 40% to 30%, and his ultimate cooldown increases from 45s to 60s.
  • Doctor Strange loses some shield value, with Shield of the Seraphim dropping from 800 to 700.
  • Magneto gets a mixed bag: his Meteor M projectile speed increases from 30m/s to 45m/s, but Metal Bulwark cooldown goes up from 12s to 15s.

Duelists

  • Blade receives meaningful buffs across the board. His shotgun projectile speed climbs from 150m/s to 180m/s, sword range extends from 4.5m to 5m, and Bloodline Awakening now converts excess lifesteal into bonus health (max 75, at a 50% conversion rate).
  • Daredevil is being pulled back. Devil's Chain end damage drops from 35 to 25, and his Sonic Pursuit damage reduction falls from 20% to 10%.
  • Hawkeye loses 25 base health, dropping from 275 to 250.
  • Iron Man gets a nice quality-of-life buff: each KO during Armor Overdrive extends its duration by 2s, and startup is cut from 1.8s to 1.3s.
  • Elsa Bloodstone takes a minor hit, losing more Instinct stacks on defeat (2 instead of 1) and seeing her bonus health from Ruthless Pursuit and Helix Advance drop from 40 to 30. If you want a full breakdown of how she plays, the Elsa Bloodstone hero guide covers her kit in detail.

Strategists

  • Gambit is getting trimmed. His ultimate's charge acceleration for allies drops from 30% to 20%, and movement boost falls from 50% to 40%.
  • Invisible Woman sees her Guardian Shield healing cut from 25/s to 15/s, but gains more healing during Covert Advance (up from 20/s to 30/s).
  • Luna Snow picks up a new passive: Ice Arts cooldown reduces by 2s whenever a hero with Idol Aura participates in a KO.

Team-Up Shakeups

Two existing Team-Ups are being removed in Season 7. Jeff-Nado (Jeff the Land Shark and Storm) and Duality Dance (Adam Warlock and Luna Snow) are both gone. In their place, two new connections arrive:

  • Luna Snow and White Fox form a new Team-Up. Luna gains an ability that heals allies, damages enemies, and grants her a movement boost.
  • Adam Warlock and Storm get a new effect for Soaring Surge: Adam leaves behind a trail of energy that heals and speeds up allies who pass through it.

The removal of Duality Dance is notable given that Adam Warlock immediately picks up a new Team-Up with Storm instead. Luna Snow, meanwhile, transitions from that pairing into a new one with the incoming White Fox, which suggests NetEase is deliberately tying new heroes into the existing support ecosystem from day one.

What Season 7 Means for the Meta

The combination of two new stealth-focused heroes, a universal ultimate slowdown, and targeted nerfs to some of the season's dominant picks creates a genuine reset moment. Players who've been leaning on fast ultimate cycling as a crutch will need to adjust. The buffs to Blade and Hulk suggest NetEase wants to see more of them in competitive play, while the hits to Daredevil, Emma Frost, and Gambit signal that those heroes were outperforming expectations.
