System Shock for Nintendo Switch 2

The System Shock remake has had a long road. It started as a crowdfunded passion project, spent years in development limbo, finally launched on PC in 2023, hit PlayStation and Xbox in 2024, and then arrived on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in December 2025. That last step? It landed with a thud. The underlying game was well-regarded, but performance on Nintendo's hardware drew criticism, leaving Switch players with an experience that didn't quite match what the remake deserved.

Now Nightdive Studios is making it right.

What the Parity Patch Actually Delivers

Version 2.1, officially dubbed the Parity Patch, targets the performance shortcomings that defined the Switch version's mixed reception. The numbers tell the story clearly.

For Nintendo Switch players, the game now runs at up to 900p when docked and up to 720p in handheld mode, both targeting 30 frames per second. That's a meaningful step up from where things stood at launch.

Switch 2 owners get an even bigger upgrade. The game now targets 1440p docked and 1080p in handheld, both at 60fps. Mouse support has also been added to the Switch 2 version, which is a nice touch for a game with PC roots.

The patch also brings bug fixes and enhancements across all platforms, so PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players aren't left out entirely.

Nearly Ten Years in the Making

That context matters. The System Shock remake has been one of gaming's longer development stories, and the Switch port's rough launch felt like a stumble near the finish line. The Parity Patch reads as Nightdive refusing to leave it there.

"Thank you for sticking with us through the ups and downs of that journey," Khan said in a statement to players. It's the kind of message that lands differently when you actually know how winding that journey has been.

What This Means for Switch Players

Here's the thing: a lot of people held off on the Switch version specifically because of those early performance concerns. The Parity Patch changes the calculation. If you've been sitting on the fence waiting for Nightdive to sort things out, this update is the signal you were waiting for.

The Switch 2 version in particular now looks like a genuinely strong way to play System Shock. Hitting 60fps at 1080p in handheld mode for a first-person shooter is exactly the kind of experience that makes portable gaming feel premium rather than compromised. Mouse support on Switch 2 is a bonus that FPS fans will appreciate immediately. Make sure to check out more:
