Developer Windrose Crew announced via a Steam update that the game has surpassed 1.5 million wishlists, building on the momentum from its Steam Next Fest run where it had already cleared 1 million. The number that really stands out, though, is 800,000 players who have actually downloaded and played the demo. That's not passive interest. That's people actively choosing to spend time with the game.
And here's the thing: the demo isn't going anywhere. Windrose Crew confirmed the demo will remain playable right up until the Early Access launch, a direct response to player demand.
"You are amazing! Seriously, after climbing to the top demos of Steam Next Fest and reaching one million wishlists we were not expecting this momentum to continue , but here we are, with over 1,500,000 sea wolves waiting for Windrose to finally set sail," the developer wrote in the Steam update. “Over 800,000 captains have tried the demo! And by the way, you can still do it, the demo is staying up until the Early Access launch.”
What the demo actually gives you
Windrose is the kind of game that sounds like it's trying to do too much on paper. Open-world survival mechanics, ship sailing and customization, naval combat, dungeon raiding, and a story rooted in real-world historical inspiration. The demo covers the first three islands, a handful of early quests, and yes, full ship-to-ship pirate battles.
