Ability outfits are the backbone of getting around Miraland efficiently, and with new ones arriving every season, it's easy to lose track of which ones actually pull their weight. Some are region-locked novelties. Others are so good they change how you play the entire game. After spending time across Wishfield and Itzaland testing each of these outfits, here's a clear breakdown of where to spend your Diamonds and which abilities deserve a permanent slot in Nikki's wardrobe.
What makes an ability outfit worth investing in?
Not all ability outfits are created equal. Some unlock automatically through the main story, while others require significant Diamond investment via banners. The best ones tend to do at least one of the following: speed up resource gathering dramatically, open up traversal options that feel genuinely faster than running, or replace a tedious mechanic with something smoother. Region-locking is a real downside, and outfits that work across all of Miraland rank higher for that reason alone.

Here's a quick overview before the full breakdown:
The full breakdown
10. Shrinking: small ability, surprisingly useful
Shrinking is one of the default ability outfits, unlocked automatically once you reach the Wishing Woods area of Wishfield during the main story. It lets Nikki shrink down to a tiny size and hand control over to Momo, who carries her through tight passages where only Faewish Sprites normally fit. Momo's jump distance in this form is genuinely impressive and lets you reach Blings, Whimstars, and Diamond-filled treasure chests that would otherwise be completely inaccessible.
The main frustration here is that Shrinking is locked to Wishing Woods. As Miraland keeps expanding, the community has been vocal about wanting region-locked abilities to travel with Nikki everywhere. For now, it sits at the bottom of this list purely because of that limitation, not because the ability itself is weak.

9. Battle Companion (Deepwood Dream): Nikki goes beastmaster
The Battle Companion ability is among the more recent additions to Nikki's kit, unlocked by completing the Deepwood Dream outfit from Ian the Cadenceborn at his location in the Titans' Outpost Ruins near Spira in Itzaland. You earn it by supplying Ian with Dews of Inspiration, and additional quests from him help you get comfortable with how it works. The Itzaland Heart of Infinity grid even has a large section of nodes dedicated entirely to it.
In practice, it functions like a beastmaster system: you summon a Phantom Companion (a friendly Esseling) to fight alongside you against hostile Esselings in the overworld. Different Phantom Companions bring different abilities to the fight, so there's room to experiment. Combined with Momo's combat support, it gives you a real edge against tougher encounters.
Invest in the Battle Companion nodes on the Itzaland Heart of Infinity grid early. The ability scales noticeably with those upgrades and makes overworld fights much less of a chore.
8. Construction: a home for every occasion
Construction is admittedly one of the more divisive entries here. The mechanics can get complex and occasionally tedious, particularly as they expand into helping Itzaland's Shroomlings build drink shops and bath houses. That said, house building added a whole category of gameplay that didn't exist before: a dedicated space for photoshoots with custom settings, a cozy corner for players who prefer crafting over combat, and a genuinely personal touch to the world of Miraland.
It needs some streamlining before it feels fully accessible to players who don't normally enjoy large-scale building. But the foundation (pun intended) is solid, and it's hard to argue against having a customized home base.
7. Bug Catching and Sweet Waltz: an upgrade worth chasing
The base Bug-Catching ability is another story unlock, available very early and useful throughout the game for gathering crafting materials. The standard bug net works fine, but catching critters one at a time across multiple biomes gets old fast.
The real upgrade here is Sweet Waltz, which arrived with the 2.0 update that introduced Itzaland. This outfit replaces the single-catch mechanic with a sweep that grabs multiple bugs in one go. Unlike several other ability outfits tied to specific regions, Sweet Waltz works everywhere in Miraland, which pushes it well above the base version.
Sweet Waltz is one of the few upgraded ability outfits with no region restriction. If you're doing any serious bug-gathering run, it's the only option worth using.
6. Gigantification (Forest Folk): surprisingly practical giant
Gigantification launched alongside Itzaland in the 2.0 season, accessed via the Forest Folk ability outfit. On paper, growing to the size of a Behemoth sounds like a gimmick. In practice, it's one of the more multi-purpose abilities in the game.
At full size, you can climb onto elevated areas that are normally out of reach, stun actual Behemoths using the roar skill to pass through their territory safely, sprint at mount-level speeds, and charge through breakable walls and boulder piles to uncover hidden passages and treasures. The catch is the Gigantification Energy bar that limits how long you stay transformed. Invest in the Gigantification nodes on the Heart of Infinity grid, though, and that timer becomes essentially unlimited.
The only real knock against it: currently Itzaland-only. If that region lock ever lifts, Gigantification's value goes up considerably.

5. Sticky Claw: the best way to get around Itzaland
Sticky Claw is another 2.0 addition and arguably the most fun traversal tool in the game. It works as a grappling hook: anywhere the orange reticle icon appears, you can latch onto it and pull yourself there. You can also hang from a grapple point for as long as you need before moving on, which makes navigating tricky vertical sections far less stressful.
Compared to the floating ability from the Abandoned District, Sticky Claw wins on control. The floating ability drains a usage gauge constantly, while Sticky Claw lets you manage your movement more deliberately. Outside of mounts or Gigantification's sprint, it's the most reliable way to cover Itzaland's terrain quickly.
Sticky Claw is currently limited to Itzaland. The orange grapple reticles only appear in that region, so don't expect to use it back in Wishfield.
4. Animal Grooming (Enchanted Encounter): wand over net
Base Animal Grooming has been part of Infinity Nikki since launch, and it does exactly what you'd expect: groom animals to collect crafting materials. The grooming cutscenes are skippable, but doing it one animal at a time still adds up when you need large quantities of materials.
The Enchanted Encounter outfit, which debuted in the 1.6 Season, solved that problem with the Fairy: Animal-Grooming ability. A literal wave of a wand grooms entire flocks at once. The community's Glinda comparisons at the time were not wrong. This outfit works in all regions, making it a permanent fixture for any serious outfit-crafting session.
3. Forest Ripple (Flourish Walk): the best gathering tool in the game
The Forest Ripple outfit from the 2.1 Season became one of the most popular banners the community had seen, and the hype was justified. The outfit's design alone drew huge attention, but the Flourish Walk ability is what makes it a genuine must-have.
Activating Flourish Walk lets you gather all plants in an area with a single tap. Each tap can pull in dozens of materials at once, no running between individual plants required. You can even use it at your Home to harvest everything you've planted in one motion. The second feature is what really sets it apart: after gathering, Flourish Walk lets you re-mature those same plants one time, giving you a second full harvest from the same patch. For anyone who regularly needs large plant quantities for outfit crafting or construction, this ability cuts the time investment in half.

2. Mount Riding (Unicorn's Vow): the flying mount that earns its spot
Mount Riding has been gradually expanding in Infinity Nikki, moving well past the bicycle rentals of early Wishfield. The standout is the Unicorn's Vow: Mount ability from the Dreamtime Bestowed outfit, which arrived in the 2.3 Season alongside a sweets-themed transformation of part of Spira.
The unicorn doesn't just run. It flies. Not floating, not gliding, actual flight. The flight duration is limited before you descend, but the cooldown is short enough that it stays practical. The unicorn can also follow Nikki around the world without needing to be constantly re-summoned. Most importantly, it's not region-locked: you can ride it across both Wishfield and Itzaland. That combination of flight, follow mode, and cross-region availability makes this banner one of the hardest to skip.
1. Archery (Purification): the best ability in the game right now
Purification has been Nikki's core combat mechanic since the beginning, but for most of Wishfield's run it stayed largely the same. The Archery ability outfit changed that entirely when Itzaland launched. It's the first ability outfit you unlock upon entering the region, and it replaces the original purification method with a quick flurry of arrows.
The practical difference is real: Realm of the Dark trials feel noticeably faster and less repetitive with the bow compared to the original method. Beyond standard Esseling encounters, Archery also opens up new interactions with obstacles and item retrievals that weren't possible before. You can amplify it further through the Heart of Infinity grid, and there are multiple bows to choose from, each with distinct features.
Purification is the ability you use constantly, so having a version that feels genuinely satisfying and efficient to execute matters more here than anywhere else on this list.
Prioritize Heart of Infinity nodes for Archery early in your Itzaland progression. The ability upgrades noticeably with investment and makes Realm of the Dark encounters much faster to clear.
Which ability outfits should you prioritize with limited Diamonds?
If resources are tight, focus on outfits that work across all regions and cover multiple use cases. Forest Ripple handles gathering, Enchanted Encounter handles animal materials, and Unicorn's Vow handles traversal across both regions. Those three cover the majority of what you'll need for day-to-day play in Miraland. Archery is effectively a story unlock for Itzaland, so that one takes care of itself.
Region-locked outfits like Gigantification and Sticky Claw are still worth investing in once you're spending significant time in Itzaland, but they're lower priority if you're still building out your core wardrobe.
