What Are Status Effects in Limbus Company?

In Limbus Company, nearly every high-performing team is built around one of seven core status effect keywords: Burn, Bleed, Tremor, Rupture, Sinking, Poise, and Charge. These keywords function as both damage multipliers and tactical frameworks, shaping which IDs you bring, which EGOs you equip, and how you approach each fight. Understanding how each keyword triggers, stacks, and pays off is the foundation of effective team construction in this game.

Each keyword is tied to one of the seven sin attributes, which means your team composition naturally leans toward a specific sin resonance. This creates a satisfying loop where thematic identity and mechanical power reinforce each other. Whether you are a new player figuring out your first proper team or a returning manager trying to optimize for Mirror Dungeon hard mode, this guide breaks down every keyword and the IDs that make them work.

How Does Each Status Effect Work?

Burn (Wrath)

Burn deals fixed damage equal to its current Potency at the end of each turn, then reduces its Count by 1. This automatic end-of-turn trigger makes Burn the easiest keyword to maintain since you never need to land additional hits to activate it. Stacking Potency on a single target is straightforward, especially in boss fights where you can concentrate all attacks.

The major limitation is that Burn only fires once per turn, capping raw damage output unless you break through the normal damage ceiling. This is where Lobotomy EGO Magic Bullet Outis becomes essential. Her unique Dark Flame mechanic doubles your effective Burn damage output and is considered mandatory for any serious Burn team. Without her, you will hit a ceiling that other keyword teams simply do not face.

Core Burn IDs to target:

  • The Thumb East Capo IIII Meursault (Core)
  • Firefist Office Survivor Gregor (Core)
  • Liu Association South Section 3 Yi Sang (Core)
  • LCE EGO Ardor Blossom Star Faust (Core, self-destructs at 30+ Burn Potency)
  • Cinq Association East Section 3 Don Quixote (Recommended)

Key Burn EGOs: Great Trichiliocosm (Yi Sang/Ryoshu), 4th Match Flame (Ryoshu), Capote (Meursault), Ardor Blossom Star (Ishmael)

Bleed (Lust)

Bleed activates on each coin flip during attack skills and during clashes, dealing fixed damage equal to Bleed Potency per activation, then reducing Count by 1. Because Bleed fires multiple times per turn based on how many coins land and how often the enemy acts, it has the highest theoretical damage ceiling of any keyword in extended fights.

The tradeoff is Count management. Bleed burns through stacks quickly, and if an enemy gets staggered or stops acting, your Bleed damage stalls. In Mirror Dungeon, the EGO Gift Blood Fog (coin power +3 and damage +100% for the first-formation ally) largely compensates for this weakness, which is why Bleed decks are consistently top-tier in that content.

The La Manchaland faction forms the backbone of the current Bleed meta, with the Kurokumo pair of Wakashu Heathcliff and Captain Ishmael serving as a second devastating core.

Core Bleed IDs to target:

  • The Manager of La Manchaland Don Quixote (Core)
  • Kurokumo Clan Wakashu Heathcliff + Kurokumo Clan Captain Ishmael (Core pair)
  • The Princess of La Manchaland Rodion + The Prince of La Manchaland Meursault (Core pair)
  • The Barber of La Manchaland Outis (Recommended)
  • The Ring Pointillist Student Yi Sang (Recommended)

Key Bleed EGOs: Yearning-Mircalla (Don Quixote/Meursault), Contempt Awe (Ryoshu), Hex Nail (Faust/Rodion), Sanguine Desire (Rodion)

Tremor (Sloth)

Tremor is the most mechanically complex keyword in the game. Rather than dealing direct HP damage on trigger, Tremor raises the enemy's Stagger Threshold whenever a Tremor Burst skill connects. Think of it as dealing stagger-track damage similar to Library of Ruina. Several IDs and EGOs can also apply Amplitude Conversions, which add secondary effects to each Tremor Burst, such as Tremor - Reverb dealing Sloth-attribute damage equal to Tremor Potency.

District 20 Yurodivy Hong Lu and his Cavernous Wailing EGO provide access to Tremor - Reverb, which is the traditional damage amplifier for the archetype. Everlasting Faust is a near-mandatory EGO that can apply up to 12 Tremor Bursts under the right conditions.

The Thumb East pair of Capo IIII Meursault and Soldato II Sinclair add Tremor - Burning, which combines Tremor and Burn damage in a single burst, making them excellent hybrid picks.

Core Tremor IDs to target:

  • District 20 Yurodivy Hong Lu (Core, or use his Cavernous Wailing EGO)
  • The Thumb East Capo IIII Meursault + The Thumb East Soldato II Sinclair (Core pair)
  • Lobotomy EGO Regret Faust / Heishou Pack Mao Branch Adept Faust (Core)
  • T Corp Class 3 VDCU Staff Outis / Molar Office Fixer Outis / LCA Udjat Vanguard Team 3 Leader Outis (Core, choose one)

Key Tremor EGOs: Everlasting (Faust), Cavernous Wailing (Hong Lu), Crushbound Past (Meursault), Christmas Nightmare (Ishmael), Asymmetrical Inertia (Heathcliff)

Rupture (Gluttony)

Rupture is mechanically identical to Sinking: it triggers on hit rather than automatically, dealing fixed physical damage equal to Rupture Potency per activation and reducing Count by 1. The on-hit trigger means Count management is critical since every attack against the target consumes a stack.

Rupture has the highest raw damage potential of any keyword when fully stacked, capable of dealing 99 fixed damage per coin hit, bypassing resistance entirely. The Heishou faction has transformed this archetype, with The Lord of Hongyuan Hong Lu serving as the lynchpin for the premium Heishou Rupture build.

For players who cannot access the full Heishou roster (most of which are Season 6 IDs), a General Rupture team built around Heishou Faust, W Corp Yi Sang, and Cinq West Meursault remains competitive.

Core Rupture IDs (General):

  • Heishou Pack Mao Branch Adept Faust (Core)
  • W Corp L3 Cleanup Agent Yi Sang (Core, especially with Dimension Shredder)
  • Cinq Association West Section 3 Meursault (Core)
  • Devyat Association North Section 3 Sinclair and Rodion (Recommended)

Key Rupture EGOs: Dimension Shredder (Yi Sang), Lasso (Faust/Hong Lu), Lantern (Sinclair), Ebony Stem (Outis)

Sinking (Gloom)

Sinking works identically to Rupture in terms of trigger mechanics but deals SP (sanity) damage rather than HP damage. Against enemies with mental power, this drains their SP and reduces their coin-flip probability. Against enemies with no mental power or below -45 SP, Sinking deals Gloom-attribute physical damage instead.

The Sinking archetype splits into two distinct strategies:

Sinking Deluge (built around Effloresced EGO Spicebrush Yi Sang) stacks both Count and Potency rapidly, then detonates the entire stack with his Skill 3 for a massive Count x Potency nuke. Molar Boatworks Fixer Ishmael is the Count queen for this setup.

Butterfly (originally built around Lobotomy EGO Solemn Lament Yi Sang, now often centered on The Index Nursefather Yi Sang) takes a more traditional approach, balancing stacking with frequent triggering. Jeong's Office Rep Ishmael is the Butterfly team's damage queen.

Both builds share a common core in Wild Hunt Heathcliff and Lobotomy EGO The Sword Sharpened with Tears Rodion (or Dieci Association South Section 4 Rodion as an accessible alternative).

Core Sinking IDs:

  • Wild Hunt Heathcliff (Shared Core)
  • Lobotomy EGO The Sword Sharpened with Tears Rodion (Shared Core)
  • Effloresced EGO Spicebrush Yi Sang (Deluge Mandatory)
  • The Index Nursefather Yi Sang / Lobotomy EGO Solemn Lament Yi Sang (Butterfly Core)
  • Edgar Family Heir Gregor (Core for Deluge)

Key Sinking EGOs: Bygone Days (Yi Sang/Gregor/Ishmael), Binds (Heathcliff), Rime Shank (Rodion), Christmas Nightmare (Ishmael), Sunshower (Outis)

Poise (Pride)

Poise is a self-buff keyword that grants a critical hit chance equal to Poise Potency x 5% per coin flip. Count decreases by 1 on a successful critical hit or at turn end. Because Poise applies to the ID holding it rather than to enemies, it is effective against any target regardless of resistance.

The Poise meta previously split into distinct Slash and Pierce teams, but as of the release of The House of Spiders: The Pinky Apprentice Sinclair, the community consensus has collapsed them into a single unified team that pulls the best from both pools.

The Full-Stop Office pair of Rep Hong Lu and Fixer Heathcliff anchors the Pierce side, while Drifting Blade of Hongyuan Ryoshu and Edgar Family Chief Butler Ryoshu provide monster Slash contributions. Both a Faust and a Ryoshu with access to Thoracalgia are borderline mandatory since that EGO is one of the best Poise payoff tools in the game.

Core Poise IDs:

  • Full-Stop Office Rep Hong Lu + Full-Stop Office Fixer Heathcliff (Core pair)
  • The Index Nursefather Yi Sang (Core)
  • Drifting Blade of Hongyuan Ryoshu / Edgar Family Chief Butler Ryoshu (Core, both are excellent)
  • The Index Proselyte Paper Slip Faust / Blade Lineage Salsu Faust / Heishou Mao Branch Adept Faust (Core, Faust for Thoracalgia access)

Key Poise EGOs: Thoracalgia (Faust and Ryoshu), Great Trichiliocosm (Yi Sang/Ryoshu), Sunshower (Outis), Blind Obsession (Ishmael)

Charge (Envy)

Charge is a self-buff keyword that empowers specific skills when its Count is consumed. Unlike debuff keywords that stack on enemies, Charge builds on the ID itself, meaning its power increases regardless of which enemy you face. Recent Charge IDs also gain permanent power increases each time they consume 10 Charge stacks, creating a snowball effect across longer fights.

W Corp L3 Cleanup Captain Outis is the team engine, funneling Charge into allies and making the entire composition function. Without her, the team loses much of its cohesion. MultiCrack Office Rep Faust and either Lobotomy EGO In the Name of Love and Hate Don Quixote or W Corp L3 Cleanup Agent Don Quixote round out the core.

The main drawback is warm-up time. Before Charge is fully stacked, W Corp Don Quixote and Ryoshu can harm themselves when Charge runs low, and R Corp personalities may friendly-fire if their Charge depletes. Managing this early-turn vulnerability is the primary skill check for Charge players.

Core Charge IDs:

  • W Corp L3 Cleanup Captain Outis (Mandatory)
  • Lobotomy EGO The Sword Sharpened with Tears Rodion (Core)
  • Lobotomy EGO In the Name of Love and Hate Don Quixote / W Corp L3 Cleanup Agent Don Quixote (Core)
  • Lobotomy EGO Red Eyes and Penitence Ryoshu / W Corp L3 Cleanup Agent Ryoshu (Core)
  • MultiCrack Office Rep Faust (Core)

Key Charge EGOs: Dimension Shredder (Yi Sang/Hong Lu/Outis), Telepole (Faust/Don Quixote), Electric Screaming (Don Quixote/Meursault), In the Name of Love and Hate (Don Quixote), AEDD (Heathcliff)

What Should New Players Prioritize?

If you are still working through the main story and do not have a full keyword team assembled yet, focus on acquiring strong generalist IDs that transition naturally into proper keyword teams later. Several Season 7 IDs are particularly new-player-friendly because they perform well as standalone units before you have the full team context.

For sharding decisions, prioritize non-extractable Event IDs since they cannot appear from the gacha pool and will never risk wasting pulls on duplicates. Key targets include MultiCrack Office Rep Faust, Blade Lineage Mentor Meursault, Kurokumo Clan Wakashu Heathcliff, and Molar Boatworks Fixer Ishmael.

For Walpurgisnacht resources, the top priorities are:

  1. Lobotomy EGO The Sword Sharpened with Tears Rodion (fits Sinking and Charge)
  2. Lobotomy EGO Magic Bullet Outis ID (mandatory for Burn)
  3. Full-Stop Office Rep Hong Lu (mandatory for Poise/Pierce)
  4. Full-Stop Office Fixer Heathcliff (pairs with FS Hong Lu)
  5. Jeong's Office Rep Ishmael (fits Tremor and Sinking)

Hybrid and Envy Resonance Teams

Beyond the seven pure keyword archetypes, several multi-keyword compositions have emerged as viable options, particularly in Mirror Dungeon where EGO Gifts can amplify both keyword sets simultaneously.

The most established hybrid builds include:

  • Bleed/Poise (Breath-Bleed): Uses the Pequod and Kurokumo factions together, benefiting from both Blood Fog and Lucky Bag EGO Gifts.
  • Rupture/Charge (Charge-Burst): W Corp personalities provide Charge while also generating Rupture, with Dimension Shredder serving both purposes.
  • Sinking/Charge: Enabled by R Corp Reindeer IDs and Lobotomy EGO Don Quixote, though operationally demanding.
  • Tremor/Sinking: Jeong's Ishmael and Udjat Outis appear in both pure builds and bridge the gap naturally.

For Envy Resonance specifically, Lobotomy EGO In the Name of Love and Hate Don Quixote is the undisputed centerpiece, combined with The House of Spiders: The Middle Apprentice Ishmael, The Middle Little Brother Sinclair, and multiple Heathcliff options. This team benefits from Envy resonance attack level bonuses and pairs naturally with Charge mechanics.

Support Passives Worth Knowing

Beyond active combat, several IDs earn their roster spot purely through passive skills that benefit the entire team. These support passives can be equipped from the bench (reserve slots) and do not require the ID to be in active combat.

Some of the most universally valuable support passives:

  • LCB Sinner Yi Sang: Heals 10 SP to the ally with the least SP at turn end (Gloom x4 Owned)
  • The Ring Pointillist Student Yi Sang: SP healing on hit based on negative effects on target, extra healing for Bleed targets
  • Tingtang Gang Gangleader Hong Lu: The ally with the most SP deals +20% damage with Heads Coins (Gluttony x5 Owned)
  • LCB Sinner Rodion: The ally with the most HP deals +20% damage with Heads Coins (Wrath x5 Owned)
  • LCB Sinner Outis: The ally with the most HP deals +30% damage to enemies below 0 SP (Sloth x5 Owned)
  • G Corp Head Manager Outis: The ally with the most HP randomly gains Attack Power Up, Defense Power Up, or Protection at combat start

Building a bench with strong support passives is often the difference between a team that clears content comfortably and one that struggles in longer fights.
