The Game Time program is Madden NFL 27's season-launch MUT event, and it packs more earnable content into a short window than almost anything else in Season 1. Two free linemen, 88 OVR LTDs, a Speed-boosting Champion mechanic, 40 Challenges across the AFC and NFC, and an exclusive earnable edge rusher are all on the table. Here's exactly how to get them.

What is the Game Time program?

Game Time runs from launch through September 24 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The program is built around Champion players expected to make explosive plays in Week 1 and Week 2 of the real NFL season, plus a Hero for every one of the 32 NFL teams. That "one per team" structure is intentional: no matter which franchise you're building a theme team around, there's a Game Time card that fits your chemistry.

The program receives two content drops after launch: one on September 15 and a second on September 17. Combined, those updates add over 20 new Player Items to the pack pool, two new earnable rewards, and a second batch of Challenges.

What's in the free Welcome Pack?

Log into MUT before September 24 and you receive a Welcome Pack with a choice between two 78 OVR Player Items:

  • Kelvin Banks Jr. (LT, New Orleans Saints)
  • Kenneth Grant (DT, Miami Dolphins)

Both start at 78 OVR and can be upgraded all the way to 87 OVR by earning Skill Points through player objectives. The objectives track in any MUT mode, including solo Challenges and CPU events, but the selected player must be active in your lineup (even as a backup) for progress to count.

Which Welcome Pack player should you pick?

Here's the short answer: Kelvin Banks Jr. Left tackle is a more impactful position than a run-stuffing defensive tackle, and Banks has a clear path to 87 OVR with strong pass-blocking upside. Kenneth Grant is a 6'4", 330-pound interior presence with 64 speed, which limits how much you'll use him outside of very specific defensive schemes.

Banks needs 144 total touchdowns scored while he's active to fully max out. A useful checkpoint is 83 OVR: if his strength and pass-block numbers look right at that point, keep going. If not, reversing the upgrades at 83 OVR costs roughly 1,200 coins, far less than unwinding a fully upgraded card.

tip
Keep your Welcome Pack pick in the lineup at all times, even as a backup. Skill Points only track when the player is on your active roster during objective completion.

Who are the Game Time Champions?

Champions are the program's headline 87 OVR cards. They come with a built-in chemistry mechanic: if a Champion's real NFL team wins during the week that Champion is released, the card receives a +1 Speed (SPD) boost.

Launch Champions (released at program start):

  • Nick Bosa (LEDG, San Francisco 49ers)
  • Kyren Williams (RB, Los Angeles Rams)
  • George Pickens (WR, Dallas Cowboys)
  • Arvell Reese (SAM LB, New York Giants)

Nick Bosa already picked up his +1 SPD boost after the 49ers beat the Rams in Week 1, moving him from 80 to 81 SPD.

September 15 Champions:

  • James Cook III (RB, Buffalo Bills)
  • Brian Branch (SS, Detroit Lions)

September 17 Champions:

  • Kamari Lassiter (CB, Houston Texans)
  • Joe Burrow (QB, Cincinnati Bengals)
  • Chris Jones (DT, Kansas City Chiefs)
  • Tyler Warren (TE, Indianapolis Colts)

Champions are available through packs in the Store and can also be obtained via the 87 OVR Game Time Champion Fantasy Pack through Sets (requirements below).

What are the 88 OVR LTD players?

Three Limited (LTD) items were added across the two update windows. LTDs enter the pack pool for a set window before cycling out:

  • Tucker Kraft (TE, Green Bay Packers) — 88 OVR LTD, added September 15, available in packs through September 22
  • Ladd McConkey (WR, Los Angeles Chargers) — 88 OVR LTD, added September 17, available through September 24
  • Quay Walker (WILL LB, Las Vegas Raiders) — 88 OVR LTD, added September 17, available through September 24
warning
LTD players leave the pack pool on their listed end date. If you're targeting one of these through packs, don't wait until the final day of the program.

How do the Challenges work?

The challenge structure runs in two phases. The first set covers AFC and NFC teams at launch. The September 17 update adds a second batch, including the Clock's Ticking Challenges, which apply strict time constraints to your objectives.

Complete all 40 Challenges across both phases and you unlock a final sequence. Clear that sequence with all Stars earned and you receive the exclusive 84 OVR BND LEDG Dallas Turner, a Speed Rusher with 85 Acceleration and 83 Finesse Moves.

Turner co-led the league in strip sacks in 2025 while playing for the Vikings, and his breakout moment against cover athlete Caleb Williams in their respective rookie seasons is part of the card's backstory. He's a legitimate edge option for players building a defensive front.

Along the way, Challenges also reward Coins, Packs, and Field Pass progress.

tip
Complete Challenges before worrying about H2H events. The guaranteed earnable rewards from Challenges, including Dallas Turner, have more consistent value than pack-based outcomes.

What is the Clock's Ticking Event?

The Game Time: Clock's Ticking is the program's H2H event. Two versions are available:

  • Free version: No lineup restrictions, open to everyone.
  • Lineup Restricted version: Requires at least three 84+ OVR Game Time Player Items in your starting lineup.

Both versions share the same Tier 4 reward structure. Each tier requires 5 wins before 3 losses, which is more forgiving than past event formats. Completing Tier 4 in either version earns the current Event Reward Player.

The event reward rotated on September 17: 87 OVR WR Luther Burden III (87 SPD, 87 Catch in Traffic, 87 Deep Route Running) was the reward through September 17, after which 87 OVR FS Malaki Starks of the Baltimore Ravens took over.

The event is also available as a Squads mode: invite up to two friends to combine forces for the same rewards.

What are the Game Time Sets?

Sets let you exchange lower OVR Player Items for higher-tier Game Time cards. Every Set reward is a Fantasy Pack, meaning you choose which Game Time Player Item you receive.

Loading table...

The mistake most players make here is hoarding low-OVR items that never make the starting lineup. Run them through the 80 OVR Elite Set first, then chain upward. Lower Uncommon Player Items that miss your roster have more value as Set fodder than as bench depth.

How does the Field Pass work?

Field Pass progress is earned through Challenges, Sets, Events (both H2H and CPU), and general MUT play. The Free Pass alone offers up to 32,000 Coins, three Game Time Strategy Item Fantasy Packs, multiple BND Game Time Player Items, and the Game Time 82 OVR Booster Evolution at Level 16.

That Evo allows you to boost any 80 OVR Game Time Player to a maximum of 82 OVR. It's non-removable and unchainable, so pick the card you're committing to before applying it.

Upgrading to the Premium Pass for 1,000 Madden Points adds up to 85,000 additional Coins (117,000 total across Free and Premium), more BND Game Time Player Packs, and an 80+ OVR Platinum Player as an instant reward.

Trust me on this one: the Free Pass is worth completing for the Evo and Coins alone, but the final reward being only an 82 OVR Evo means the Field Pass should not be your first priority. Finish Challenges and the Clock's Ticking Event before grinding Field Pass tiers.

What is the Hot 'n Cold Hero Evolution?

Every Game Time Hero can be upgraded through the standard Hero Evolution, which raises OVR and adds a Team Chemistry Boost. The additional layer is the Hot 'n Cold Evo: the card gains +1 OVR when the player's real-life NFL team wins and resets when their team loses.

This mechanic means your card's ceiling during the program window is tied directly to what happens on Sundays. If you have a choice between two Heroes, lean toward a player on a team with a favorable early schedule. The Hot 'n Cold bonus only matters while the program is live, so timing your Evo investment to align with a team's winning streak is the right call.

The 82 OVR Booster Evo from the Field Pass is separate from the Hero Evo: it applies to 80 OVR Game Time Players across multiple archetypes, useful for Theme Team builders who want to squeeze more out of a specific player.

Five tips for getting the most out of Game Time

  1. Claim the Welcome Pack immediately. Log in before September 24 and grab Kelvin Banks Jr. Put him in the lineup right away so touchdown objectives start tracking.
  2. Prioritize Challenges over the Field Pass. The guaranteed earnable rewards, including Dallas Turner, come from Challenges. Field Pass progress will accumulate naturally as you play.
  3. Use Sets to convert bench players. Any 78-79 OVR Player Item that won't start for you is worth three of them in the 80 OVR Elite Set. Chain upward from there.
  4. Pick your Hero Evo target based on schedule. The Hot 'n Cold Evo is only as good as your team's winning streak. Back a team with a soft early schedule.
  5. Check the Clock's Ticking Event version that fits your roster. If you don't have three 84+ OVR Game Time items yet, the Free version gives you the same Tier 4 reward without the lineup requirement.

Frequently asked questions

How do you earn Dallas Turner in Game Time?

Complete all 40 Challenges across the AFC and NFC, then finish the unlocked Clock's Ticking final sequence with all Stars earned. The 84 OVR BND LEDG Dallas Turner is the capstone reward for that sequence.

Can you earn the Event Reward Player in CPU mode?

Yes. Both versions of the Clock's Ticking Event have H2H and vs. CPU options. The CPU version lets you build momentum and earn rewards without facing the online community, and the Tier 4 reward is the same regardless of which mode you play.

What happens to Game Time cards after September 24?

The program's Field Pass, Welcome Pack, limited-time Tug of War Event, and Evolutions all end on September 24. Champion, Hero, and Elite Player Items can still appear in the pack pool after the program closes, and Game Time Sets remain available alongside Sets from other programs.

Is the Premium Field Pass worth 1,000 Madden Points?

If you're actively completing Challenges and Events, the additional 85,000 Coins and extra BND Player Packs represent solid value. The 80+ OVR Platinum Quicksell as an instant reward offsets some of the cost. If you're only casually playing the program, stick with the Free Pass.
