Marvel Rivals gets a new map tomorrow ...

The Cellblock Chat achievement in Marvel Rivals sounds simple enough: chat with Kingpin deep in the Vault in Lower Manhattan. The problem is the game gives you almost no direction on how to actually get there, and there are two conditions you need to meet before Kingpin is even accessible. Miss either one and you'll spend entire matches wondering why you can't find him.

What is the Cellblock Chat achievement?

Cellblock Chat is one of the Chronoverse Saga achievements added with the Lower Manhattan map in Marvel Rivals Season 7, according to marvelrivals.gg. The objective reads: "Chat with Kingpin deep in the Vault in Lower Manhattan." Completing it awards 5 Achievement Points, which count toward earning free Units (the game's premium currency). It's a low-effort reward once you understand the setup, but the conditions for accessing Kingpin trip up a lot of players.

How to complete Cellblock Chat

Step 1: Get into a match on Lower Manhattan

You need to be playing on the Lower Manhattan map. Map selection is random, so this comes down to queue frequency. One thing that matters here: play a public match only. According to marvelrivals.gg, completing this in a custom match will not register the achievement, so stick to Quick Match or Ranked.

Step 2: Land on the defending team

This is where most players get stuck. You must be on the defending team to access the Vault where Kingpin is waiting. The attacking team pushes the convoy; the defending team tries to stop it. You cannot choose sides, so if you end up attacking, the match is a wash for this achievement.

In Quick Match, team assignment is fixed for the whole round. In Ranked Match, teams swap sides at halftime, so you're guaranteed a defending stint if you stick it out. You'll know you're on the correct side when the objective text in the upper left reads "Prevent Kingpin from obtaining the Tablet of Life and Time and foil the prison break."

Step 3: Let the convoy reach the first checkpoint

Here's the counterintuitive part. Even as the defending team, the Vault stays locked until the attacking team pushes the convoy past the first checkpoint, specifically to the front of the prison section. Before that happens, your spawn room is elsewhere and Kingpin is completely inaccessible.

You don't need to throw the match entirely, but you do need to let the convoy progress far enough to trigger the Vault opening. Watch the progress bar near the top center of the screen to track convoy movement.

Step 4: Find the Vault entrance

Once the convoy clears the first checkpoint, the Vault becomes your team's spawn room. The fastest method is simply dying after the checkpoint triggers. You'll respawn directly inside the Vault.

If you'd rather not die, navigate to the very end of the convoy path. Look for a large "Fisk Can Fix It" propaganda poster between two spawn room doors near the back of the prison section. Either door leads into the Vault.

Step 5: Talk to Kingpin

Inside the Vault, head toward the back of the room. You'll find Kingpin standing beneath a large hand, dressed in a white tux. Approach him and interact to start the conversation. He'll share his ambitions as the Mayor of New York City.

Why is this achievement so tricky?

Three factors combine to make Cellblock Chat annoying. First, map rotation is random. Second, team assignment is random. Third, even when both go your way, you still need the enemy team to push far enough to open the Vault. Ranked Match solves the team assignment problem by guaranteeing both sides, which makes it the smarter queue for this specific achievement.
