Game Lore
At the center of Masks of the Void is Iret, a lone warrior from Boreal Island trying to stop an ancient force called the Neverending Night. This Entity threatens to erase everything, and Iret is one of the few who can stand in its way.
Guided by her adoptive father, Dr. Herdesett, and a strange wanderer, Iret uses Sand Masks to access the Vortex—a stormy, unstable realm close to the Entity itself. It’s not just the enemies that change, but Iret’s own self across timelines. With every loop, she meets altered versions of allies and even glimpses of a darker future self. Some characters will support her; others may mislead her.
Each decision in the game affects the outcome, and how Iret chooses to balance power and restraint will shape her final confrontation with the Neverending Night. The lore doesn’t hand you everything upfront—players piece it together across repeated runs.
Gameplay and Features
In Masks of the Void, combat is not just about dodging bullets. You can use telekinetic powers to grab objects from the environment and throw them at enemies. Everything around you, from walls to loose debris, becomes a potential weapon.
The masks you wear play a major role in shaping your playstyle. Each mask includes four types of abilities: Basic, which helps you build Focus; Defense, which blocks or deflects attacks; Dash, which gives you mobility or escape options; and Special, which unleashes stronger moves that consume Focus. As you progress, you can discover new masks, switch between them, and upgrade their abilities. Some offer passive effects, while others shift the way you handle combat altogether.
Runs typically last around 30 minutes, giving you just enough time to explore, level up, and take on new threats. The game uses procedurally generated environments, so each run feels different. As you grow more powerful, the world responds with tougher enemies, shifting terrain, and increasing pressure.
The environment reacts to your choices and power level. As Iret becomes stronger, the Vortex becomes more unstable. You will notice changes in enemy behavior, terrain, and visuals. This system makes each run feel more intense and gives your decisions lasting impact.
Latest Updates (2025)
In September 2025, Masks of the Void launched Season 1 of the “Infinity” mode, opening a free-to-play wave-based roguelite build via the Elixir Games launcher and supporting leaderboard competition with exclusive prizes for top players. The update introduced a curated set of Cards, Void Gifts and Relics tied to the season’s modifiers, and integrated the Gamers L.A.B. on-chain data layer for transparent ranking and performance tracking.
In October 2025 the Early Access version titled “Origins” was released for PC on Steam, allowing players to experience the full narrative loop of Iret, the Boreal Island and the Neverending Night. The community-focused build emphasized feedback via Discord and Steam forums, with a planned full launch targeted for Q1 2026.
