Who is Flare in Mongil: Star Dive?
Flare is a 5-star Fire Destroyer from the Varhine region and one of the strongest characters in Mongil: Star Dive's current roster. She's a ranged attacker who creates Blaze Zones through her Basic Attacks, summons Fire Dragons to shred boss Stagger Gauges, and applies Fire Affliction plus DEF reduction to set up massive damage windows for your entire team. Her mechanics are straightforward, but squeezing out her full potential takes some deliberate setup.
What makes Flare worth pulling?
Flare fills two roles at once. As a Destroyer, she rapidly fills enemy Stagger Gauges. As an AoE attacker, she can handle mob-clearing duties that would normally fall to a dedicated Fighter. That dual-role flexibility opens up your third team slot for a Support like Francis, which keeps the team alive while your Assassin deals the killing blow during Burst windows.

Her core kit also stacks multiple debuffs simultaneously. Her Ultimate Skill (Dragon Storm) reduces enemy Fire RES and drops a DEF debuff called Dragon's Mark (5% DEF reduction for 8 seconds) through nine Dragon Ambush strikes over 11 seconds. Her Tag-out Skill (Wings of Fire) fires a piercing Fire Sphere that applies Fire Affliction and reduces Fire RES for 5 seconds. Stack both before switching to a Fire-type Assassin and the damage difference is significant.
info
Always activate Flare's Ultimate Skill while the enemy is Staggered. Reduced DEF and lower Fire RES hit simultaneously during the most vulnerable window, multiplying your follow-up damage.
Flare's best artifact: Exquisite Dragon Fire
Exquisite Dragon Fire is Flare's signature 5-star Destroyer artifact and the clear best-in-slot choice. At base, it provides 24 ATK and 0.23% Fire DMG Boost, scaling to 883 ATK and 27% Fire DMG Boost at max level.
The fusion effect, Flame Dragon's Blessing, triggers when Flare uses a Switch Attack, granting Flamestone. While Flamestone is active, entering a Blaze Zone upgrades it to Inscribed Flamestone, which at max fusion (Level V) boosts Neutralization DMG by 30% and ATK by 60% for 10 seconds. Flare triggers Inscribed Flamestone naturally by stepping into her own Blaze Zones, so the uptime is consistent with normal play.
Additional fusion bonuses at Level 3 add up to 15% ATK Boost based on Destroyer proficiency points, and Level 5 adds up to 15% Fire DMG Boost on the same condition.
The second-best option is Thunder-raising Tremors, which significantly increases ATK and Neutralization DMG on entry. It's a solid fallback if you don't have the signature artifact, but the gap between it and Exquisite Dragon Fire is real.

What is the best equipment set for Flare?
Hahnul's Roar (4-piece) is the top pick. Flare's Ultimate Skill applies Fire Affliction on hit, which means the 2-piece Fire DMG bonus and the 4-piece Crit DMG bonus both activate from the same action. You're not juggling separate conditions.
Mountain Peak Majesty works as an alternative, particularly if you want to stack Fire RES reduction further. The 2-piece Tag-out Skill interaction pairs naturally with Flare's playstyle, and some players run the 2-piece alongside a partial Hahnul's Roar setup for a hybrid approach.
info
According to community testing documented across both Game8 and GameWith, the Hahnul's Roar 4-piece is consistently recommended as the primary set. Mountain Peak Majesty is best treated as a stepping stone or situational complement, not a direct replacement.
Best monsterlings for Flare
Flare's recommended Monsterling loadout focuses on amplifying her Neutralization DMG and Fire output:
- Tealtaur (Link Chain): Provides Fire DMG boost, the primary Link Chain pick for Flare.
- Lupe: Rank Effect boosts Neutralization DMG, which is especially valuable for breaking Stagger Gauges on bosses.
- El Dorado Guardian: General-purpose team DPS amplifier.
For an alternate pick, Custos deserves attention. Even though its Link Chain ability is Earth-type, its Bonus Effect grants a 15% Neutralization RES Reduction when you activate a Special Skill while Custos is equipped. That's one of the strongest Destroyer-specific bonuses available, and it's worth slotting in for tough boss encounters.
On the GameWith side, Avardan and Amon are also cited as strong options for building up the Stagger Gauge faster, which aligns with Flare's primary Destroyer role.
Best team comps for Flare
Fire main DPS team
This is the standard recommendation from both Game8 and GameWith. Flare breaks the Stagger Gauge and stacks Fire Affliction plus DEF reduction, Angel capitalizes on the Burst window, and Francis keeps the team alive. Leeho is a viable Assassin substitute for Angel but requires more setup to reach the same output.
Conquest / boss farming team
Flare and Esther work well together in Conquest even with different elements, according to Game8. Flare's AoE capabilities handle waves between boss phases, keeping the run efficient.
Three-fire team (alternative)
GameWith highlights a Flare / Leeho / Angel composition where Flare and Leeho apply Fire Affliction to each other on damage, and Angel provides passive damage support even when not actively controlled. This is a high-ceiling option for dedicated Fire team builders.
How to play Flare: the core gameplay loop
Flare's rotation follows a consistent pattern once you understand what each skill is doing:
- Use Basic Attacks until the 4th hit, which creates a Blaze Zone on the ground. Step Flare into it to gain Dragon's Breath, a 7% Fire DMG Boost lasting 3 seconds.
- Use her Special Skill (Dragon's Breath summon) to call a Fire Dragon and deal 233.8% Fire DMG while building the enemy's Stagger Gauge.
- If the Ultimate Skill is fully charged, activate Dragon Storm before switching out. This launches the enemy Airborne, deals 201.9% Fire DMG, applies Fire Affliction (5 seconds), and begins the Dragon Ambush phase (9 strikes over 11 seconds, each applying Dragon's Mark for 5% DEF reduction over 8 seconds).
- Switch to your Fire Assassin to trigger Wings of Fire (Flare's Tag-out Skill), which fires a piercing Fire Sphere dealing 87% Fire DMG and applying Fire Affliction with Fire RES reduction for 5 seconds.
The key timing decision is step 3. If the Ultimate isn't ready, skip it and switch out immediately to apply the Fire RES debuff from Wings of Fire. If the Ultimate is charged and the enemy is Staggered, always fire it first.
warning
Flare needs to physically enter her own Blaze Zones to maintain Dragon's Breath uptime. She's listed as a Ranged character, but her optimal positioning is more aggressive than that label implies. Staying too far back means losing the Fire DMG Boost entirely.
Flare's awakening priority
Not all awakenings are equal. Here's where to focus your resources:
A1, A2, and A6 are the priority targets. A1 and A6 directly amplify Flare's damage output in significant ways. A2 is especially strong because it extends Dragon's Breath to teammates, turning Flare's self-buff into a team-wide Fire DMG boost. The remaining awakenings offer smaller gains and can wait.
How to get Flare
Flare is available on the New Expedition banner, which offers 20 discounted pulls. If she doesn't appear in your pulls, the New Friends banner (available after completing the New Expedition banner) allows you to set Flare as your rate-up and guaranteed character, obtainable within 50 rolls.
If you're a new player deciding whether to reroll for her, Flare's SS overall tier ranking on GameWith and her strong reroll tier make her a legitimate target. Her straightforward kit also means she performs well even without full awakening investment.
info
Flare's mechanics are accessible from the start, but her ceiling scales sharply with A1, A2, and A6 unlocked. If you're planning to invest in her long-term, prioritize those three awakening stages before spending resources elsewhere.
