Monster Hunter Stories 3 Guide: How to Get Deviljho

The Deviljho is one of the most rewarding monsties you can chase down in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. This Brute Wyvern packs a 9-star Attack stat, deals Dragon damage with its Kinship Skill, and drops parts used to craft some of the strongest weapons and armor in the entire game. The good news? You can track one down well before the late game if you know exactly where to look and how to handle its shifting attack patterns.

Where to Find the Deviljho in Monster Hunter Stories 3

To encounter a Deviljho, you first need to unlock the Canalta Timberland region. Reaching this area takes a few hours of progress through the Azuria region, so expect to have a solid chunk of the early story completed before you arrive. According to sources, Deviljho also appears in the Sacrosanctum/Lazlion, Serathis areas later in the game.

Once you are inside Canalta Timberland, head to the northeast section near the river. Walk along the riverbank and scan for the Deviljho patrolling the area. It does not always spawn in the same spot, so explore the bank patiently until one appears.

How to Get a Deviljho Egg

Owning a Deviljho monstie requires hatching one from an egg, and the egg acquisition process has a smart trick behind it.

Raiding Monster Dens

You can acquire Deviljho eggs by raiding monster dens in its habitats. The catch is that eggs in dens are randomized, so the specific egg you want may not always be present on a given visit.

How to Force a Specific Egg Spawn

Here is the method that saves you a lot of time. Force the Deviljho to retreat to its den by either:

  • Achieving a high score during the battle
  • Throwing a Paintball at it once its health is low

When a monster retreats to its den after being painted or after a high-scoring fight, all eggs inside that den will be of the same species. This guarantees you will find a Deviljho egg rather than a random one.

How to Defeat the Deviljho

The Deviljho operates on a two-state attack system that you must respect throughout the fight. Misreading which state it is in will cost you turns and health.

Normal State vs. Enraged State

The Deviljho always opens a fight in its Normal state, throwing out Power attacks. Counter these consistently with Speed attacks until you have dealt enough damage to trigger its rage. Once it enters the Enraged state, you will see a distinct red glow on its body. At that point, switch your approach entirely and answer its Speed attacks with Technical attacks.

What Weapons and Skills Should You Bring?

Beyond the attack-type counters, your loadout choices matter a great deal:

  • Bring weapons or monsties that exploit Dragon and Thunder weaknesses.
  • Pack skills that inflict Sleep or Paralysis. When the Deviljho enters its Enraged state, these status effects interrupt its momentum and hand you a free attack window.
  • Start the fight with a monstie strong in Speed attacks to capitalize on the Normal state opening.

Deviljho Stats and Skills at a Glance

Knowing what the Deviljho brings to your team as a monstie helps you decide how to build around it.

Stat Trends

The Deviljho is a pure offensive monstie. Its Attack rating of 9 is exceptional, while its Speed and Defense sit at a middling 5. Plan your team around covering those defensive gaps.

Innate Skills

  • Hunger Rage (Kinship Skill, unlocked at Level 1): Deals Dragon damage to a single enemy.
  • Dragon Blast (unlocked at Level 50): Deals Dragon damage to all enemies and inflicts Wyvernsoul Defense Down.
  • Pump Up (unlocked at Level 60): Grants Attack Up and Wyvernfell Up to the user, but also inflicts Defense Down as a trade-off.

Skill Pool (Random Possibilities)

  • Dragon Eater: Deals Dragon damage to one enemy and recovers the user's HP relative to damage dealt.
  • Antibleed (L): High chance to negate Bleeding.
  • Vicious (M): Increases Head-to-Head damage.

The Deviljho's Monstie Rank sits at 7 stars, and its Riding Actions include Jump, Roar, Melee Attack, and Breath, giving it solid field utility alongside its combat power.

What Are the Best Deviljho Weapons and Armor?

Farming Deviljho parts pays off with access to some of the strongest craftable gear in Monster Hunter Stories 3. Here is what to prioritize:

Top Gear from Deviljho Parts

Loading table...
  • Deviljho Hammer: The raw damage output and part-breaking potential make this one of the best hammers available. If you focus on breaking enemy parts to farm materials, this is your go-to.
  • Deviljho Great Sword: Built for situations where you need to land massive single blows. Ideal against tankier monsties where burst damage matters more than sustained pressure.
  • Deviljho Armor: This set carries two standout skills. Tenacity lets you survive one hit that would otherwise be fatal, while Vigilance ramps up critical damage when your HP is running low. That combination makes it particularly effective against Invasive Monsters, where fights can swing quickly.

How to Farm Deviljho Parts Efficiently

Parts drop when you break specific body parts during battle. The Deviljho has four targetable zones: Main Body, Head, Legs, and Tail. Each zone can drop different materials depending on whether the Deviljho is in its Normal, Enraged, or Starving state during the break.

For the most efficient farming loop:

  1. Travel to the Deviljho's spawn area in Canalta Timberland or Sacrosanctum/Lazlion.
  2. Engage the Deviljho and focus attacks on the specific body part you need.
  3. Counter attack types correctly (Speed in Normal, Technical in Enraged) to maintain momentum.
  4. Use Sleep or Paralysis skills during the Enraged phase for free attack turns.
  5. Once health is low, throw a Paintball to trigger a retreat and guarantee a Deviljho egg den if you need one.
  6. Repeat as needed across multiple encounters.

The Deviljho is a high-investment target, but the gear you unlock makes it one of the most worthwhile monsties to pursue in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
