Monster Hunter Stories 3 Guide: How to Get Zinogre

Zinogre is one of the most iconic Fanged Wyverns in the Monster Hunter franchise, and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection gives you three electrifying versions to bond with. From the base Zinogre crackling with pale-blue lightning to the dragon-powered Stygian Zinogre and the golden-charged Thunderlord Zinogre, each variant brings something distinct to your monstie team. Here is everything you need to know to track them down and make the most of their skills.

How to Get Zinogre in MHS3

Force the Invasive Odogaron to Retreat

The base Zinogre is not found by wandering the map hoping for a random egg den. You need to trigger a specific chain of events in the Tarkuan region. Here is the exact process:

  • Bring a monstie that has the Mudblight ability into battle against the Invasive Odogaron.
  • Use that monstie to break the Invasive Odogaron's Claws during the fight.
  • Once both conditions are met, the Invasive Odogaron will retreat from the area.
  • After it retreats, a den spawns at the location, and you can collect a Zinogre egg from inside.

Restore Habitats to Farm Zinogre Eggs

Once you have completed the Invasive Odogaron retreat step at least once, you can use the Habitat Restoration system to integrate Zinogre into your chosen ecosystems. Restoring Zinogre's habitat does two things: it lets you collect Zinogre eggs repeatedly from Egg Dens, and it opens the door to unlocking dual-element genes through the restoration process. This is the long-term method for building optimized Zinogre monsties.

How to Get Stygian Zinogre

What Is the Stygian Zinogre?

Stygian Zinogre is a subspecies of Zinogre that trades the standard thunder element for dragon-element power. Its jet-black shell and silver-white fur, combined with the red glow of draconic energy, make it visually striking and mechanically distinct. It sits at Monstie Rank 6, one step above the base Zinogre.

Unlock Stygian Zinogre Through Habitat Restoration

Unlike the base Zinogre, Stygian Zinogre does not require an Invasive Monster encounter. Instead, you unlock it by raising the Habitat Restoration rank of Zinogre to Rank A. Once that ecosystem threshold is reached, Stygian Zinogre eggs become available in the corresponding dens.

How to Get Thunderlord Zinogre

What Is the Thunderlord Zinogre?

Thunderlord Zinogre is a Zinogre Deviant wrapped in dazzling golden electricity. It commands blinding light bursts and crash bolts of lightning, earning its fearsome title. At Monstie Rank 7, it is the most powerful of the three Zinogre variants and carries the highest Attack stat in the family.

What Are Zinogre's Transformations?

The base Zinogre features three distinct transformation states that reflect its charging mechanic from the mainline Monster Hunter games:

  • Normal: Standard combat state.
  • Electric Charge: An intermediate powered-up state.
  • Thunder Supercharge: The fully charged state where Zinogre's pale-blue electricity reaches maximum intensity.

Stygian Zinogre and Thunderlord Zinogre also have transformation states, though the specific attack type and element details for their non-Normal forms are still being confirmed in available sources.

Which Zinogre Variant Should You Use?

Choosing the right Zinogre variant depends on what your team needs most:

  • Base Zinogre (5★) is your entry point and works well for teams that need reliable thunder damage early. Its balanced stats at 7 across the board make it a solid all-rounder.
  • Stygian Zinogre (6★) is the pick if you need dragon-element coverage and want access to the Wyvernsoul Defense Down debuff. Its Attack stat of 9 makes it a genuine threat.
  • Thunderlord Zinogre (7★) is the top-tier choice for pure thunder damage. With an Attack of 10 and a Kinship Skill that buffs itself after hitting all enemies, it is built for aggressive, high-damage play.
