If you’ve just started Monster Hunter Stories 3, your Monsties are the real MVPs. One wrong move in genetics and you’re grinding forever. The good news is the system is way friendlier now and you can build absolute units without the old rage.
Hunting the Best Eggs in Monster Dens
Head straight for the glowing Monster Dens scattered everywhere. Yellow glow usually means potent eggs and that rainbow shine is the highly potent jackpot for stronger base genes and stats. Your companion gives hints so listen up. Grab a bunch because you’ll need extras for the next step. Don’t get attached yet.

Raising the Ecosystem Rank with Habitat Restoration
This is exactly why you grabbed extras. At any camp open Habitat Restoration and release Monsties back into their matching region. Every release boosts that area’s Ecosystem Rank. Higher ranks mean dens start dropping better eggs, dual-element Monsties, and mutated variants with rare genes. Yeah it stings releasing a solid one at first but this is the real breeding loop and it snowballs hard.
Rite of Channeling: Customize Genes Without Losing Monsties
Once you unlock the Rite of Channeling (pretty early) you never lose a Monstie again. Go to any camp or stable and you can pull genes from anywhere and slot them wherever you want. No sacrifice nonsense anymore. Each Monstie still uses the 3x3 grid with Power, Speed, or Technical types plus elements. Rearrange freely and test builds on the fly. This is where the good eggs from restoration start paying off big.

How the 3x3 Grid Works
Every slot holds a gene with an attack type and element. Drag them around to line stuff up. You can even see where each gene came from if you need to farm more. Building on the ecosystem upgrades you just did, you can quickly stack strong inherited skills and passives that match how you actually play.
Mastering Bingo Bonuses
Line up three genes of the same type or same element horizontally, vertically, or diagonally and you trigger a Bingo Bonus. Multiple bingos stack too. Here’s the quick scan:
One wrong slot and you miss the line so experiment at camp. Not all upgrades carry equal weight, so match bingos to your main fighting style.
Linking Genetics to Kinship Gauge and Attacks
All that gene work feeds straight into combat. Fill the Kinship Gauge by winning Head-to-Head clashes (Power beats Technical, Speed beats Power, Technical beats Speed) and landing Double Attacks. Better genes mean stronger moves for these moments. Once it’s full, Ride On, link up, and unleash the Kinship Attack. Good bingos can add extra element damage or effects. Chain Double Kinship Attacks with your whole party and bosses that felt difficult at first become manageable real quick.
Wrapping It Up
Start with strong eggs, use Habitat Restoration to upgrade your farms, go wild with the free Rite of Channeling and bingo lines, then watch those Kinship Attacks carry you. Your Monsties will go from random hatchlings to absolute legends. Get out there, rider, and build something nasty. The game is waiting and you’re about to break it in the best way. Have fun.
