NBA THE RUN is Play By Play Studios' spiritual successor to the NBA Street series, and its Street Legends are the heart of what makes it feel distinct from every other basketball game on the market. These aren't just stat bundles with a name attached. Each legend has a backstory, a home court, a defined playstyle, and a Zone Ability that can flip a game when activated at the right moment. Knowing who to run and why is the difference between winning knockout tournaments and getting bounced in the first round.
Who are the Street Legends in NBA The Run?
Street Legends are original characters created specifically for NBA The Run, separate from the licensed NBA roster. They were part of the game's original identity before the NBA license came aboard, and they bring a street basketball personality that the pro players can't fully replicate. Five legends are currently in the game, each built around a specific archetype with real tradeoffs baked in.

Here's a full breakdown of every Street Legend, their Zone Ability, and exactly where they fall short.
Street Legends breakdown: strengths, weaknesses, and Zone Abilities
Destiny "DJ" Jackson
DJ is Harlem royalty with Rucker Park as her home court, and basketball is genuinely in her blood. Her father was a well-known street legend before her. On the court, she's built entirely around scoring from the perimeter. Her midrange and deep-ball ratings are both elite, and when her Zone activates, her Deep Threat ability pushes her shooting range even further out.
The tradeoff is hard and real: don't expect DJ to attack the rim or crash the boards at any meaningful level. She's a perimeter-only scorer, which means you need teammates who can handle the paint when she's on the floor.
Shen Tong
At 14 years old and 5'3", Shen Tong is the most unconventional legend in the roster. He trains at the Dongdan Sports Complex in Beijing and makes up for his size with enormous hops and a fearless approach to finishing at the rim. His passing is elite, and his Zone Ability, Dropping Dimes, boosts both his own passes and his teammates' shot success simultaneously.
That makes him one of the highest-impact legends for team-oriented play in Knockout Squads mode. His weaknesses are defense and physicality. Opponents who play physical will expose him, and he won't win many battles in the post.
Spin Cycle
Spin Cycle grew up in Philadelphia, learning the game between shifts delivering laundry. That grind shaped his entire playstyle. His handles are elite, his hands are elite, and his Pickpocket Zone Ability turns him into a nightmare for any ballhandler who tries to push through him. His home court, Spring Garden, was even modified to reflect his name.
The honest limitation: Spin Cycle is not a finisher. His rim-attack skills are limited, so his value comes entirely from disruption and turnovers. Pair him with a legend or NBA player who can convert the possessions he creates.
El Gigante
El Gigante is the paint specialist. At 7'7", the Spaniard owns the interior with elite rebounding, shot-blocking, and vertical dominance. His Paint Control Zone Ability effectively turns the rim into restricted territory for opponents. Venice Beach is his home court.
He is not built for speed, and his recovery time after a missed commitment is noticeably poor. If you send him toward a play that doesn't develop, he'll be out of position for longer than any other legend. Use him as an anchor, not a roamer.
Bobbito Garcia
Bobbito Garcia (also known as Kool Bob Love and DJ Cucumber Slice) is the legendary voice of NBA The Run and the energy behind every knockout run. His iconic calls like "Donqueooo" and "butter biscuits" define the game's atmosphere, but he's also a playable legend with serious offensive skills. He's deadly from deep and silky with the ball, and his Ankle Breaker Zone Ability sends defenders viral for all the wrong reasons when activated.
Defense is not his game, and he'd be the first to admit it. His offensive output more than compensates, but you're running a liability on that end whenever he's matched up.

How do Zone Abilities actually work?
Every Street Legend has a single Zone Ability that activates when they enter their "In the Zone" state. The ability doesn't just boost the legend's own stats in most cases. Dropping Dimes affects the whole team. Paint Control alters opponent behavior near the rim. Pickpocket creates disruption across multiple possessions.
The key to getting value from Zone Abilities is knowing when to trigger them. Burning a Zone Ability in the opening minutes of a knockout run is wasteful. These abilities are most effective when the game is close and a single possession can decide the round.
What game modes can you use Street Legends in?
NBA The Run currently offers two primary knockout formats. Knockout Squads has you controlling one player on a three-person team, which is where legends like Shen Tong and Spin Cycle shine because their team-oriented abilities have more impact. Knockout Solos puts you in control of your entire three-person team, which rewards legends with broader court coverage like El Gigante.
For players who want to dig deeper into which NBA players pair best alongside these legends, the NBA The Run best players guide covers the top picks and their strongest team combinations.

What does the deluxe edition add?
The standard game launched at $29.99 and the deluxe edition at $39.99. The deluxe version unlocks three NBA player variants immediately: Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors 2009 Rookie Variant), Luka Dončić (Dallas Mavericks 2018 Rookie Variant), and Kevin Durant (Seattle SuperSonics 2007 Rookie Variant). It also includes 1000 CRED, the in-game currency used for alternate jerseys, dunk animations, taunts, badges, and banners.
Play By Play Studios confirmed during previews that there are no microtransactions. Everything is earned through play, which means CRED and cosmetics are progression rewards rather than paywalled content.
