Neverness to Everness puts a lot on the table: open-world exploration, gacha pulls, action combat. But one feature that's quietly one of the most engaging parts of the game is the romance system. Every character on the launch roster can be dated, each with their own favourite gifts, unique animations, and side stories that only unlock once you've built enough trust with them.

Can you romance characters in Neverness to Everness?
Yes. All major characters in NTE are romanceable through the Bond Affinity System. Spending time with a character and giving them gifts raises your bond level, which progressively unlocks new interactions, dialogue, and exclusive side stories.
The content stays appropriate for a 13+ audience. There are no adult scenes. Think of it less like a dating sim and more like a friendship-to-romance arc you build at your own pace across Hethereau.

How does the Bond Affinity System work?
The Bond Affinity System is the core mechanic behind all romance progression in Neverness to Everness. Every character has their own bond level, and raising it requires two things: spending time together and giving gifts.
Gifts are not interchangeable. Each character has specific likes and dislikes, so handing the wrong item to the wrong person won't move the needle much. The one universal shortcut is the Handwritten Letter, available through the Warp Exchange Circle Bounty. Every character in the game responds positively to it, making it the most efficient bond item in the early game.
Prioritise farming Handwritten Letters from the Warp Exchange Circle Bounty early. They work on every character and give you flexibility before you've figured out individual preferences.
As your bond level climbs, you unlock side stories that go deeper into each character's personality. These aren't just cutscenes; they're some of the better writing in the game, and skipping them means missing out on context that makes the characters feel like actual people rather than gacha roster slots.
All romance activities in NTE
There are five distinct ways to spend time with characters across Hethereau:
- Take a stroll together — Walk around the city side by side, with the option to hold hands
- Drive around the city — Invite a character into your vehicle; each one has unique passenger-seat animations
- Hang out at home — Once you have a home, characters can visit and appear in their casual outfits
- Visit date spots — Specific locations around Hethereau trigger special memories that can be photographed
- Side stories — Unlocked through bond progression, these are character-specific narrative sequences
The ferris wheel date and city drives are the most visually distinct of the bunch, and the passenger animations vary enough between characters that it's worth trying with a few different ones.

All romanceable characters and their favourite gifts
Every character on the NTE launch roster can be romanced. The table below lists all 13 characters and their confirmed favourite gifts:
Jiuyuan's name appears as "Jiayuan" in some sources. Both refer to the same character on the launch roster.
What gifts should you prioritise?
The Handwritten Letter is the single most efficient gift in the game because it works universally. Outside of that, a few patterns emerge from the table above worth noting:
- Floe Cinema Ticket is a favourite for Mint, Daffodil, Chiz, and Baicang. If you're running multiple bonds simultaneously, stocking these saves inventory space.
- Blue Fable covers Aurelia, Edgar, and Sakiri. Three characters from one item type is solid value.
- Kids Energy Meal works for both Sakiri and Baicang, which is useful if you're building bonds with both.
Don't spread gifts randomly before checking preferences. Giving a character a gift they don't favour still costs resources and gives minimal bond progress compared to targeted gifting.
For players who want to push bond levels fast on a single character, combine the Handwritten Letter with both of that character's other favourites in the same session.
Why bother with the bond system at all?
Beyond the obvious appeal of spending time with characters you like, the Bond Affinity System has real mechanical value. Higher bond levels unlock side stories, and those side stories contain some of the most character-specific writing in NTE. They're also the primary way to understand what makes each character distinct beyond their combat role.
The home hangout feature is a smaller but satisfying detail: seeing characters appear in casual outfits rather than their standard looks adds a layer of personality that the main story doesn't always have time to develop.
For players who treat gacha games primarily as combat engines, the bond system is easy to ignore. That's a mistake. The side stories in particular reward the time investment with context that makes the roster feel like a cast rather than a collection.
