The Xbox Partner Preview dropped a wave of announcements this week, including new Game Pass additions and reveals stretching well into 2027. But while most of that lineup sits behind a release date you can't touch yet, there are three games already on Xbox Game Pass that deserve your attention this weekend.
The rhythm game that earns its hype
Hi-Fi Rush keeps coming up in conversations about the best games Tango Gameworks ever made, and for good reason. Everything in its world pulses to a beat, from environmental animations to enemy attack patterns, and its combat is designed so that chaining combos rhythmically feels intuitive rather than punishing. You play as Chai, a wannabe rockstar who accidentally gets a music player fused to his chest and ends up leading a scrappy rebellion against a soulless megacorporation.
Here's the thing: Hi-Fi Rush works even if you have no natural rhythm. The game does a lot of the heavy lifting, and the satisfaction of landing a perfectly timed combo during a boss fight set to a banger track is hard to match. After Microsoft shut down Tango Gameworks in 2024, Krafton picked up the studio shortly after and stated its intention to continue developing the Hi-Fi Rush IP. A sequel hasn't been confirmed, but if you haven't played the original yet, this weekend is as good a time as any to find out what all the noise is about.
A 12-year-old RPG that still holds up
Child of Light turned 12 this year, which feels impossible given how fresh its watercolor art style still looks. Ubisoft released it back in 2014 to strong reception, and despite the publisher publicly expressing satisfaction with its performance and a sequel being teased as far back as 2018, a follow-up never materialized.
The game follows a young girl who wakes up in a fantastical realm and has to fight her way home. Its turn-based combat has just enough complexity to stay interesting without tipping into frustration, and the cast of characters is genuinely charming. What most players miss on a first run is how much the writing leans into a storybook tone, with dialogue written almost entirely in verse. It's a short game, completable in around 10 hours, making it a perfect fit for a weekend session.
The Ezio trilogy, and why AC2 still leads the pack
Netflix's Assassin's Creed series is moving forward with an original story set in Ancient Rome rather than adapting Ezio Auditore's arc, which has left a portion of the fanbase quietly reaching for their controllers instead. Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection packages together Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed Revelations, and AC2 remains the standout of the three.
AC2 is where the series found its footing. Renaissance Italy as a setting gave the open world real texture, and Ezio's arc from impulsive young noble to calculating assassin across three games is one of the better character progressions the series ever pulled off. The key here is that AC2 holds up better than most games of its era because the core loop of exploration, parkour, and stealth was so well-constructed that it doesn't feel dated the way some of its contemporaries do.
info
If you're jumping into the Ezio Collection for the first time, start with AC2 and treat Brotherhood as the follow-up it was designed to be. Revelations is worth finishing the trilogy, but the first two carry the weight. What the Xbox Partner Preview adds to the picture
This week's showcase confirmed more titles heading to Game Pass in the coming months, with the full updated list of games coming to Game Pass in 2026 and beyond already reflecting the new announcements. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is slated for Spring 2027, though a playable demo is coming next month for subscribers who want an early look.
The broader Partner Preview also touched on everything announced including SEGA partnerships, Xbox Play Anywhere titles, and more, giving a clearer picture of where the Game Pass catalog is heading for the rest of the year. For now, though, the three games above are ready and waiting. Make sure to check out more:
