The weekly reset on April 7 brought a fresh Grandmaster Vanguard Alert into rotation, and this week the activity is The Sunless Cell. Clear it with a B grade or higher and you walk away with A Good Shout at Tier 5, arriving pre-Masterworked with a unique Origin Trait attached on your first successful run.
That first-clear guarantee matters. Subsequent completions can still drop A Good Shout with the special Origin Trait, but the rate drops significantly after that initial reward. Here's the thing: if you want the best version of this weapon, your first run this week is the one that counts.
What you actually earn from completing the GM
Grandmaster Alerts pull their weapon from the Pinnacle Ops loot pool, which means A Good Shout is technically accessible through regular Pinnacle Ops grinding too, just without the guaranteed Tier 5 pre-Masterworked version and the unique trait. The GM route is the most direct path to the top-shelf roll, according to this week's full reward breakdown.
Beyond the weapon itself, completing the Grandmaster Alert also drops:
- Enhancement Prism x5
- Ascendant Shard x2
- Two Fireteam Ops engrams based on your final grade
The Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards alone make the GM worth running even if A Good Shout isn't a weapon you're chasing. Ascendant Shards are still one of the harder upgrade materials to stockpile, and two per completion adds up fast across a week.
danger
You must finish with a B grade or higher to earn the Tier 5 weapon reward. Lower grades will still net you some loot, but the featured weapon at Tier 5 requires hitting that grade threshold.
The Sunless Cell and the grading system
The Sunless Cell is a Strike-turned-GM that Destiny veterans will recognize from its original Taken King days. At Grandmaster difficulty, modifier stacks and Champion density make it a genuine test of coordination and loadout discipline. Scoring well enough for a B grade means playing efficiently, managing Champions cleanly, and not letting the fireteam wipe repeatedly.
The grading system introduced with the Vanguard Alerts overhaul rewards clean play rather than just completion. Pro tip: coordinate Champion-stunning responsibilities before you load in, since fumbled Unstoppable or Barrier encounters bleed time and points faster than almost anything else in the activity.
How long you have and where to find it
This rotation runs through April 14, when the weekly reset flips everything over again. The Grandmaster Alert node sits at the top of the Fireteam Ops section in the Portal, right next to Quickplay. You can also access it directly from the Seasonal Hub under Vanguard Alerts.
For a full breakdown of this week's GM and what the current rotation looks like going forward, the Destiny 2 Grandmaster Vanguard Alert tracker on our site keeps tabs on the weekly weapon and activity details in one place.
Iron Banner returns April 14, so this is the last full week before the PvP mode takes over the spotlight. If A Good Shout is on your list, The Sunless Cell is open until reset. Make sure to check out more:
