Sony kicked off its summer showcase season with a State of Play that ran over an hour and packed in more than a few surprises. The show opened with Marvel's Wolverine and closed with release dates, new studio debuts, and at least one franchise resurrection nobody saw coming. Here's everything that landed.

Marvel's Wolverine leads the charge
Insomniac Games opened the show with an extended gameplay sequence from Marvel's Wolverine, and creative director Marcus Smith was on hand to walk through it. Logan launches straight into combat in his yellow suit, and yes, it gets bloody fast. Jean Grey shows up mid-sequence to assist, lifting enemies into the air with telekinesis while Wolverine tears through them. The two have a genuine team-up dynamic that looks more interesting than anything shown previously.
The gameplay section also revealed a convoy-hopping sequence that feels more linear than Insomniac's Spider-Man games. That's not necessarily a bad thing. A story trailer followed, introducing Sabretooth and Omega Red as antagonists alongside a plot involving mutant children. Pre-orders went live immediately after the stream ended.
Marvel's Wolverine pre-orders are now live following the State of Play broadcast. If you're planning to grab it at launch, that's your window.

The reveals that nobody expected
Rayman is back. Rayman Legends: Retold was officially announced by Ubisoft, revisiting the beloved 2013 platformer with what appears to be a visual and mechanical refresh. Leaks had been circulating for a few days before the show, but seeing it confirmed was still a moment. Fans of the original have been waiting a long time for Ubisoft to revisit this one.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis from Crystal Dynamics got a proper trailer and a release date: February 12, 2027. This is a remake of the original Tomb Raider, and the footage showed controls that look significantly more manageable than the 1996 original. Anyone who has tried going back to that game recently knows exactly why a remake is needed.
A new studio also made its debut. Unseen Games, founded by Ikumi Nakamura, showed off Kemuri, a three-player co-op action game built around yokai hunting. It's coming in 2027 and immediately looked like one of the more distinct things at the show.
Fighting games, survival, and a chef
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls got a new trailer with villain reveals. Doctor Doom, Magneto, Carnage, and Green Goblin were all shown in action, and the game has a firm launch date of August 6. The Knights of Doom faction was confirmed as part of the roster reveal, adding more structure to what's shaping up to be a fairly stacked fighter.
Dune: Awakening and The Lost Wild also appeared during the show, alongside Bancho the Chef, a prequel from Mintrocket (the studio behind Dave the Diver) that tells the origin story of the sushi master from that game. Phantom Blade Zero returned with more action footage as well, continuing to look sharp.

What the show means for PS5 owners this summer
Here's the thing: Sony needed this one to land. PlayStation hardware prices have gone up, and the exclusives pipeline has felt thin compared to previous years. This State of Play didn't solve every problem, but it gave PS5 owners a concrete reason to be excited through early 2027. Wolverine is the headliner, Tomb Raider has a date, and Rayman coming back is the kind of surprise that generates genuine goodwill.
The show also confirmed that summer 2026 is going to be competitive. With other major gaming showcases running across the same period, Sony put its best-known properties front and center and backed them up with actual gameplay rather than cinematic trailers.
