Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 is currently offering more free cosmetics than at any point in recent memory, spread across multiple passes, quest systems, and even third-party account links. The full picture is scattered enough that most players miss a chunk of what's actually available to them.
What the battle pass gives you without paying a cent
The Chapter 7 Season 2 battle pass runs until June 17, and even without buying it, players can earn 27 free items just by leveling up. The highlights are genuinely worth chasing: the Fishstick Pincushion back bling, Bugs' Mailbox pickaxe, Jules' Tech Board glider, and Cold's Cruel Bloom pickaxe all sit in the free tier. There are also 300 free V-Bucks tucked in there, which can go toward the paid pass itself or any of the other seasonal passes. That's not nothing, especially with the recent V-Buck price increase still stinging.
The less glamorous free items include sprays, emoticons, loading screens, and banner icons. Useful for completionists, mostly ignored by everyone else.
The Showdown quests running until April 16
The bigger time-sensitive opportunity right now is the Fortnite Showdown quest chain. Chapter 7 Season 2's storyline pits the Ice King against the Foundation, and players pick a side on first login. To access the associated quest rewards, you need to log in on the Fortnite Showdown website to activate the quest chain.
From there, one new quest unlocks each week through April 16, with each one rewarding a cosmetic:
- Week 1: Rivaled Runner kicks (50 kills)
- Week 2: Goofyfoot Flail pickaxe (survive 30 storm circles)
- Week 3: Enticing Pie emote (win one round of BR)
- Week 4: Eagle's Talons pickaxe
The key here is that players appear to be able to accumulate progress on locked future quests by playing normally, so grinding now isn't wasted effort. These rewards disappear after April 16, so this is the most urgent item on the list.
The Showdown quest chain requires a separate login on the Fortnite Showdown website before quests become active. Skipping this step means no progress counts.
Free items across the OG Pass, Music Pass, and Lego Pass
All three seasonal passes offer free tiers that reward items for leveling up in any Fortnite experience, meaning you don't have to grind specific modes.
The OG Pass for Fortnite OG Season 8 has 12 free items, including the Luxe Scythe pickaxe, Golden Vaultwings glider, Draconic Drifter glider, Captain's Tally weapon wrap, Take the Wheel emote, Volcanic Cache back bling, and Synthesis Sai back bling. That's a solid haul for zero extra spend.
The Chappell Roan Music Pass free tier includes the Love Song guitar, Drumset Supernova drums, She Is The Boss emote, Flutter Dreams aura, and Pink Pony Star back bling. All five unlock just by playing.
The Ninjago Lego Pass leans heavily into Lego Fortnite building content, with 8 sets of Ninjago-themed decor items alongside the Fire Tornado emote. If you spend any time in Lego Fortnite Odyssey or Brick Life, these fill out your build options nicely.
Rocket League crossover rewards still in play
Playing Rocket League feeds directly into your Fortnite cosmetic collection. Completing the new player tutorial in Rocket League unlocks the Backfire car body and seven decals in both games. The Season 22 Rocket Pass free tier (which runs until March 11, so check if this is still active for you) includes Gold Band wheels and the Demigodly trail.
For players willing to grind Rocket League tournaments, six additional items transfer to Fortnite in Season 22: Bad Rad, Cheesy, Meticulous, and Chromium wheel sets, plus the Smokin' trail and Soulmesh boost. These come from loot crates earned through tournament points, so the drop is randomized.
Account links and one-time unlocks worth doing today
A few free cosmetics require nothing more than linking accounts or enabling security settings. Connecting a Lego account to your Epic Games account instantly unlocks both the Fortnite and Lego styles for the Explorer Emilie and Mr. Dappermint skins. No gameplay required.
Activating two-factor authentication on your Epic account unlocks the Boogie Down emote, a classic that's been available this way for years but still worth grabbing if you haven't. Signing up for Fortnite survey emails nets the Sir Beurre back bling. Downloading Epic's PostParty app and sharing a gameplay clip unlocks the Post That! weapon wrap.
For players willing to put in actual match time, the Felinos skin and its matching Felinos' Fury weapon wrap and Felinos' Claw pickaxe are all earnable through ranked Reload and Battle Royale play. The Reload map mastery quests, which require high placements and eventual wins on each map in rotation, reward the Color Bars weapon wrap and Lil Street Sweeper emote.
With the Showdown rewards expiring April 16, that quest chain is where you'll want to focus first. For everything else, check the Epic Games newsroom for any additional limited-time quest announcements as the season progresses.
