Fortnite Vaults in Chapter 7 Season 2 ...

The New Sanctuary Vault in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 is sitting right there on the map, fully visible, and completely off-limits. Not because of a bug. By design.

Epic Games has tied the vault's keycard to the ongoing Team Foundation vs Team Ice King Showdown event, a community-wide competition where players earn points for their chosen side by completing Rivalries. The Seven Compound Vault Key, which is the specific item needed to access the New Sanctuary Vault, is not currently in the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 loot pool. Until Team Foundation earns enough points to unlock it through the Showdown, nobody's getting inside.

Three Vaults, One Actually Open

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 launched with three vaults spread across the map, and the situation with each one is pretty different. The Squibbly Shores vault is the only one players can access right now. You fish for the Lighthouse Keycard at a glowing blue fishing spot near the Zero Point Shard at the POI, swipe it at the console inside the lighthouse, and you're in. The rewards include Blue and Purple rarity loot, a possible Skyline Deployer, and a strong chance at a Pro Fishing Rod.

The other two vaults, New Sanctuary and Frigid Fortress, are both locked behind the Showdown event. Team Foundation needs to unlock the Seven Compound Vault Key, while Team Ice King must earn the Ice King keycard for the Frigid Fortress vault. Neither is available yet.

What the Showdown Event Actually Means

Here's the thing: this isn't just a side quest. The Showdown is a live, ongoing community event that determines which content gets unlocked for everyone. Teams earn points through Rivalries, and the keycards are among the rewards gated behind those milestones. That means the New Sanctuary Vault opening is entirely in the hands of the player base.

Once Team Foundation does unlock the Seven Compound Vault Key, it'll enter the loot pool. At that point, players will be able to defeat specific NPCs, with The Foundation being the likely source, to grab the keycard and crack open the vault. What's inside hasn't been confirmed, but given the name and the storyline weight attached to New Sanctuary, expectations are high.

The Frigid Fortress Side of Things

The Frigid Fortress Vault mirrors the situation at New Sanctuary almost exactly, just from the Ice King's side. Team Ice King players are grinding Rivalries to add the Ice King keycard to the loot pool and open their own vault. The two vaults are essentially the Showdown event's endgame rewards, one for each faction.

Epic hasn't ruled out adding more vaults as the season progresses either. A potential Dark Dominion vault tied to Dark Voyager has been floated as a possibility for a future Fortnite update, though nothing has been confirmed.

What This Means for the Season

The vault structure this season is clearly designed to keep players invested beyond the first week. Squibbly Shores gives everyone something to chase immediately, while New Sanctuary and Frigid Fortress are dangling further down the road as live event payoffs. It's a smart way to pace out content and keep the Showdown event feeling meaningful. Make sure to check out more:
