After nearly four months, Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 is finally over, and the servers are down right now while Epic Games rolls out the Chapter 7 Season 2 update.
This is planned downtime, so if you're staring at a login error or a connection screen that refuses to budge, you haven't done anything wrong. Every major Fortnite season transition comes with a maintenance window, and this one is no different.
One of Fortnite's Longest Seasons, Now Finally Behind Us
Chapter 7 Season 1 ran for approximately three months and three weeks, making it the second-longest season in Fortnite history. That's a long time to sit with the same map and loot pool, and players have been waiting on Season 2 for a while. The wait got even longer when Epic delayed the new season by two weeks, though the studio never gave an official explanation for the push.
Here's the thing: that delay wasn't random. Season 1 was hit by notable stability problems in Battle Royale during January and February, and it's widely suspected that Epic used the extra time to iron out those issues before launching a fresh season on top of them. Whether those fixes held will become clear once the servers come back up and millions of players pile in simultaneously.
When the Servers Should Come Back Online
Epic hasn't published a specific target time for Season 2 going live, which is a departure from how they've handled the past few season launches. Based on historical maintenance windows, these updates typically take somewhere between 4 and 7 hours from when matchmaking goes down.
That puts the estimated return window at roughly 6 AM ET to 9 AM ET. Don't hold that to the minute, though. Given the delay and the bug-fixing context behind it, Epic may take a bit longer to make sure everything is stable before flipping the switch.

Epic has not confirmed an official end time for this maintenance window. The 6–9 AM ET estimate is based on typical seasonal update durations and may shift.

What's Waiting on the Other Side
Once Fortnite comes back online, there's a lot to dig into. The Battle Royale map is getting updates, the loot pool is being refreshed, and the new battle pass is headlined by Bugs Bunny. On top of that, Dwayne "The Foundation" Johnson is returning to the Fortnite metaverse, which was teased heavily in the lead-up to this season. Make sure to check out more:
