Blob Arena, a fully on-chain turn-based battler developed by Grug's Lair, launches Saturday, June 7, during the Armored MMA event at the NFL's Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio. The event mixes traditional cage fighting with medieval-style combat using steel weapons and armor, and it's where this blockchain-based game makes its public debut.

How Blob Arena works
Blob Arena runs entirely on the Starknet blockchain and uses the Cartridge game engine for blockchain-native gameplay. Players sign in through Discord or create a passkey with their phone or a security device. Once in, they build a blob fighter and jump into turn-based battles. Winning matches unlocks stat upgrades and new moves.
The game lets players spend in-game currency to roll for additional blob fighters, which opens up more tactical choices. Two modes are available at launch: the classic version and a new AMMA mode built around the Armored MMA event's theme.

Live tournament and seasonal prizes
A $1,000 cash tournament runs on-site at the Blob Arena booth during the Ohio event. This live competition targets event attendees and puts the game in front of a mainstream crowd. Online, Blob Arena offers a seasonal prize pool worth over $50,000 in digital assets, aiming to pull in both casual players and competitive gamers in the web3 space.

Taking web3 gaming to physical events
Grug's Lair creative director Giacomo De Caro says the Ohio launch is about proving web3 gaming can work outside traditional online spaces. Blockchain games usually stay locked in niche online communities, but public events like Armored MMA create direct contact with players and spectators who wouldn't otherwise encounter them.
After Ohio, Blob Arena heads to the Buhurt International World Championship in Hungary from July 16 to 21. That's a major medieval combat tournament, and the team plans to run live demos and player engagement there. More gameplay details and tournament schedules are on the official Blob Arena website.
