The cloud experiment is over. Square Enix has officially pulled all Kingdom Hearts cloud versions from sale on Nintendo Switch, closing the door on a streaming-based workaround that was always more of a stopgap than a real solution.
The move follows a broader shift that became clear at the latest Nintendo Direct, where Square Enix confirmed that native, proper versions of the Kingdom Hearts games are finally coming to Nintendo hardware. The cloud versions were always the compromise answer to getting Sora and company onto Switch. Now that a real alternative exists, those cloud listings are gone.
What got pulled and when
Four titles were removed from sale at 15:00 UTC on June 9, 2026:
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX Cloud Version
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC) Cloud Version
- Kingdom Hearts INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud
The service itself does not end immediately. Anyone who already owns these cloud versions can keep playing until June 9, 2027, giving existing owners a full year to transition. After that date, the servers go dark and the cloud versions stop functioning entirely.
The physical version of Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] is not eligible for the cloud owner discount. Only digital versions qualify, so keep that in mind before heading to a retailer.
The upgrade path for current owners
Here's the key detail for anyone sitting on a cloud version license. Square Enix has confirmed a discount for cloud version owners on the upcoming native digital releases. The discount applies to the corresponding Switch or Switch 2 digital version of whichever title you already own. Owners of KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud get the broadest deal, with discounts available across all the digital versions.
Save data transfer is also supported. Progress from the cloud versions can carry over to the Switch 2 digital versions, so you will not be starting from scratch.
The native Switch and Switch 2 versions launch on October 8, 2026. That gives cloud owners roughly four months to decide whether to grab the discounted digital upgrade before the new releases hit.
Where Kingdom Hearts IV fits into all this
The timing here is not coincidental. Alongside the cloud version news, Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV is also coming to Switch 2. Getting the back catalog onto Nintendo hardware in a native, playable form is clearly part of building momentum for the new entry.
For anyone who has been waiting to play through the series before Kingdom Hearts IV arrives, the October 8 native releases will be the cleanest way to do it on Nintendo hardware. No streaming dependency, no latency concerns, just the games running locally.
The cloud versions served their purpose when there was no other option. Now there is, and Square Enix is moving on accordingly. If you want to get up to speed on the series before the new game lands, the Kingdom Hearts IV guides collection will be worth bookmarking as more details emerge closer to launch.
