Lethal Company had monster variety ...

Solo dev Zeekerss has dropped Lethal Company Version 80 into beta, and after nearly a year of relative quiet since the last major patch, the wait looks worth it. Three new creatures, a reworked moon, new factory rooms, and a fresh utility slot are all heading your way, and the official Steam patch notes make clear this is only the beginning of what Zeekerss has planned.

What nearly a year of silence produced

The last big Lethal Company update, Version 70 (the "Incubating Update"), hit in June 2025. A handful of minor fixes trickled out after that, but nothing that moved the needle. Version 80 changes that. Currently in beta, it is by far the most substantial drop since V70, and Zeekerss has been transparent about why it took this long.

"This update isn't quite as content-heavy as it is feature-focused," the developer explains, "but it sets up the game with all sorts of under-the-hood fixes and adjustments to fix things I've broken over the past few updates, so I'll be able to think more about just adding new content real soon."

Here's the thing: that framing matters. Version 80 is partly a foundation patch, clearing technical debt so future updates can move faster and focus purely on content.

Three new creatures and a familiar face returning

The headliner for most players will be the monsters. Version 80 introduces 3 brand-new creatures to torment you and your crew, plus one returning creature making a comeback. The official patch notes and trailer tease their presence without giving everything away, which is very on-brand for Lethal Company.

The eerie trailer drops a hint at around the 0:27 mark with what sounds unmistakably like the Kidnapper Fox's distinctive shriek, suggesting the returning creature is that particular nightmare. As for the three newcomers, their behaviors and spawn conditions are still being discovered by players in the beta.

March gets a complete makeover

Beyond the creatures, the March moon exterior has been completely reworked. March has always been one of the forest moons, and Zeekerss confirms this update is specifically focused on improving the forest moon experience, contrasting with Version 70's emphasis on the snow moons.

"Where V70 was mostly just for the costly snow moons, this update focuses on the forest moons, and I also hope it makes the game better for newcomers," the developer says. The rework covers the full exterior layout, which means veteran players will need to relearn the terrain.

The utility slot and what it means for runs

Version 80 also adds a utility slot, a new equipment slot type that sits separately from your existing inventory. The specifics of what items will occupy this slot are still being tested in the beta, but it represents a meaningful quality-of-life shift for how you'll manage gear during a run. The key here is that it opens up more flexibility without forcing you to sacrifice a main inventory space for support items.

Rounding out the patch are a "wide range of bugfixes" and performance improvements, which should help players who have experienced frame drops or hitches on the more demanding moons.

What this means for the game's future

Zeekerss has been one of the most remarkable solo development stories in recent memory, building one of the biggest indie hits from scratch before the game became a viral phenomenon. Version 80 arriving after a long gap, and doing so with a clear roadmap message attached, signals that Lethal Company is far from finished.

"This is just the start," Zeekerss says plainly. With the technical groundwork now laid, the next updates should come faster and lean harder into new content. Given the reaction to the V80 trailer, where comments lit up with "FINALLY, A LETHAL COMPANY UPDATE" energy, the community has not gone anywhere.
