Playroom subsidiary Little Umbrella has bought Karaoke Battle, a Discord-based party game, from Mayk AI. The financial terms weren't disclosed. The deal brings a music licensing agreement with Stingray into the fold, securing licensed tracks for the game's library. Little Umbrella is positioning this as a move to strengthen its lineup of social and music-driven titles.

What happens to the game now
Karaoke Battle runs on Playroom's multiplayer tech and already exists on Discord. Little Umbrella is taking full control of development and wants to push it beyond Discord's ecosystem. CEO Tabish Ahmed said the company sees room to grow the game across different platforms and reach players who don't use Discord as their primary hangout.
"The team is excited to bring it in-house and expand our portfolio with music- and rhythm-based games," Ahmed said. "We see strong potential to evolve it—not just on Discord, but across new surfaces and platforms as well. On a personal note, it was great to do this deal with Stefan Heinrich. We've remained good friends for over 10 years since partnering together at YouTube."
Why Mayk AI sold
Stefan Heinrich, Mayk AI's co-founder and CEO, said the game started as an experiment in social music interaction. "It's exciting to see it find a long-term home with a team that truly understands party games and next platform-native experiences," Heinrich said. He pointed to his decade-long friendship with Ahmed as a factor in trusting Little Umbrella with the project.
The music angle
Little Umbrella plans to keep building Karaoke Battle as part of a broader push into rhythm and music games. The Stingray partnership matters because it solves the licensing headache that kills most music-based indie projects before they launch. The company is betting on socially interactive experiences and sees overlap with emerging web3 opportunities in gaming, though Karaoke Battle itself isn't a blockchain title.
