The courts of Mario Tennis Fever just got a little more balanced. Nintendo dropped Version 1.0.2 on March 26, 2026, the game's second update since launching on Switch 2, and it's doing some meaningful work under the hood. If you've been feeling like Donkey Kong and Petey Piranha had a suspicious edge in online play, the patch notes confirm you weren't imagining it.
Who got buffed and who got nerfed
The character adjustments are the headline here. Five characters received buffs, with Diddy Kong, Dry Bones, Baby Peach, Toad, and Shy Guy all getting expanded stable return zones. Diddy Kong also picks up a slight boost to shot and serve strength, and Dry Bones gains a bit more sideline accuracy on top of his range increase.
On the other side of the ledger, Donkey Kong, Petey Piranha, Rosalina, and Wiggler all see their stable return distances pulled back. Donkey Kong and Petey Piranha also now take slightly longer to start running when moving, which should blunt some of the mobility that made them feel oppressive. Nintendo specifically noted that DK's motion was extending well beyond his hit detection area during lateral movement, so his animation has been adjusted to match.
info
"Stable return distance" refers to how far from the ball a character can be and still execute a clean, controlled return shot. A larger zone makes it easier to handle wide balls without mishitting.
Fever Racket timers get a serious trim
The Fever Racket changes hit just as hard. Six rackets have been adjusted, and the common thread is shorter effect durations across the board.
The key here is that the Magic Racket and Ghost Racket were sitting at 15 seconds, which was clearly too long given the disruption they cause. Trimming them to 12 seconds brings them more in line with the rest of the Fever Racket pool. The Inky Racket change is a quality-of-life fix rather than a nerf, cutting the delay before ink starts dripping down the screen so you get a cleaner read on the visual effect faster.
The Adventure bug fix you'll want to know about
Beyond the balance work, Version 1.0.2 fixes a progression-blocking bug in Adventure mode. Players who reached the "In the Sky" battle and found the event refusing to advance were stuck with no workaround. The patch resolves this and also handles save data from affected players, so anyone who hit that wall and saved their game should be able to continue from that point.
The update also corrects a rating system bug where player ratings weren't being recalculated on the last day of each month at 5 PM Pacific time. For anyone grinding ranked play, that's worth knowing.
Shot behavior and charge cancel cleanup
The final mechanical change addresses an unintended interaction: sliding and leaping were triggering when players performed a charge cancel. That's been corrected, though Nintendo notes the previous behavior remains in place for multiball specifically.
For players still deciding whether to pick up the game, Nintendo's Switch 2 kiosks in select locations are running a demo, which is a solid way to get hands-on time before committing.
