Mellow Launches Indie Launchpad to Support Small Game Studios

Contractor management platform Mellow has launched Indie Launchpad, a new program aimed at assisting independent game development studios in managing remote teams and reducing operational overhead. The initiative offers participating studios six months of full access to Mellow's contractor management tools, giving smaller teams the resources to focus on game development rather than administrative tasks.

The program is open to studios with up to 15 developers working across desktop, mobile, and web platforms. Mellow's goal with Indie Launchpad is to provide a structured support system that helps indie studios scale efficiently while minimizing the time and costs associated with contractor management.

Tools designed to streamline remote team management

Indie Launchpad includes full access to Mellow's Contractor Management platform and AI Scout, a tool designed to match project leads with remote freelancers based on skills and project needs. By leveraging these tools, studios can manage compliance, paperwork, and team coordination with less effort. Mellow plans to support up to 50 studios throughout 2026, with a nominal fee of $1 per contractor per month for legal and administrative formalities.

Mellow's internal data shows that operational overhead can account for 5% to 15% of a studio's budget. Manual contractor management can cost indie teams between $5,000 and $15,000 per quarter and require up to 300 hours of administrative work. Smaller teams, in particular, often struggle to manage compliance and paperwork without dedicated administrative support.

Reducing financial pressure for small studios

Alexander Norovyatkin, Mellow's VP of Growth, explained that the program was designed in response to the financial pressures faced by many indie studios. "Working closely with numerous indie studios, we've seen firsthand the heavy financial pressure they face," Norovyatkin said. "In today's volatile market, it's only getting harder. We cannot change market turbulence, but we can provide a safe space where studios can manage their teams, eliminate paperwork, and reduce administrative costs. Our goal is to free up resources for what matters most: creating new worlds."

Indie Launchpad is intended to help indie teams spend less time on administrative work and more time on game design and development, providing a practical solution for studios that need to scale efficiently while managing remote contractors.
