Morbid Metal is live today. The dystopian hack-and-slash roguelite from Game Bastion hits Steam Early Access on April 8, and if you want to be there at the moment the gates open, you'll want to have those times locked in.
When the servers go live
The game drops at 3:30pm UTC on April 8. Here's how that breaks down across time zones:
Those times come directly from Steam and SteamDB, so they're as reliable as launch times get. That said, Steam launches can occasionally slip by a few minutes, so give it a short window if the store page isn't updating immediately.
info
A free demo is available on Steam right now if you want to get a feel for the combat before committing to a purchase.
Three characters, one simulation
Morbid Metal puts you in the role of the last surviving AI, trapped inside a simulation and trying to piece together what happened to humanity. Each run edges you closer to the truth, and death just resets the loop rather than ending your progress.
At launch, you pick from three playable characters: Flux, Ekku, and Vekta. Each has a distinct playstyle with its own strengths and weaknesses, and the game supports skill tree progression, unlockable abilities, and combo chaining across all three.
The early access build is estimated at around 10 hours of content, which is a reasonable chunk for a roguelite foundation.
What the early access build actually contains
Here's the lowdown on what's shipping at launch:
- 2 biomes: Sublime Garden and Steel Sanctuary
- 10 enemy archetypes, including Elite Variants
- 2 bosses
- Void tutorial and Void Hub
- Full skill tree
- Run progression system
Two biomes and two bosses is a tight but focused starting point. The key here is that Game Bastion is treating this as a live development window, not a soft launch, so the content slate is expected to grow through the early access period.
Price and what to expect going in
Morbid Metal launches at $13.49, which is a limited-time launch price. That's a fair ask for a roguelite early access with 10 hours of content and a free demo already available to test the waters.
What most players miss with early access roguelites is that the first build sets the tone for everything that follows. If the combat loop feels good from day one, the additions compound nicely. If it doesn't, more content rarely fixes the foundation. The demo is there for a reason, and it's worth spending 30 minutes with it before buying. Make sure to check out more:
