A child kicks a ball into a tree and starts crying. You reach down, grab it, and the tears stop. That is Nippets in a nutshell, and it launched yesterday on Steam and Itch.

Developed by Blink Industries (the production company behind Don't Hug Me I'm Scared) alongside art director Frederikke Frydenlund and development studio Uwu Biz, Nippets is now available on both platforms after building buzz through Steam Next Fest. The team describes it as a "hand-drawn hidden object game inspired by the joy of people watching and telling small stories," and that description does a lot of heavy lifting in the best way.

What you actually do in Nippets

Think Where's Wally? but your hand is literally in the picture. You poke, prod, pull, and push objects across several maps, each packed with tiny residents going about their lives with various small disasters unfolding around them. The ball-in-a-tree scenario is just the start. Every map is filled with missing objects that need returning to their rightful spots, and solving each one nudges someone's day in a better direction.

Here's the thing that sets Nippets apart from a standard hidden object game: the buildings you can enter. Rather than flat scenes with objects scattered across them, Nippets lets you step inside structures that function as their own little self-contained spaces. It makes the world feel genuinely inhabited rather than purpose-built for a puzzle.

The fridge that serves as a home screen

The main menu is a fridge. Covered in photos of the maps you can visit, it doubles as a reward display: completing tasks unlocks achievements, which in turn hand you fridge magnets to stick wherever you like. It is a small touch, but it is the kind of design decision that tells you a lot about a game's priorities.

The key here is that Blink Industries built Nippets around texture and personality rather than challenge for its own sake. The relaxed pace, the hand-drawn art style, and the roughly 3-hour runtime all point to something designed to be picked up for 20 minutes at a time rather than pushed through in one sitting.

A strong pedigree behind a small game

Blink Industries is not a new name. The studio's work on Don't Hug Me I'm Scared built a reputation for weird, warm, visually distinctive projects, and Nippets fits that pattern. The hand-drawn aesthetic carries the same kind of lived-in quirkiness, and the people-watching concept gives the game a specific emotional angle that most hidden object games skip entirely.

The launch announcement confirms Nippets is available on both Steam and Itch.io, so there are two ways to pick it up right now. For anyone who has been watching it since Next Fest, the wait is over. Make sure to check out more:
