Blizzard confirmed Season 2: Summit goes live on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11 am PT / 2 pm ET / 7 pm GMT across PC and console. What was once the rhythm of numbered Overwatch 2 seasons has now shifted into a year-long story arc structure, and this is only the second chapter. Season 1: Conquest set the new template. Season 2 builds on it with a new hero, reworked systems, and a milestone anniversary that Blizzard will almost certainly make a big deal of.
When Season 2 goes live in your region
You can preload the update right now on both PC and console, which is worth doing if you're planning to jump in the moment servers flip. The April Fools event wraps up on April 13, one full day before Season 2 launches, so there's a clean handoff between the two.
danger
The current Season 1 battle pass expires with the season. Finish any remaining tiers before the April 14 reset if you want to claim outstanding rewards.
The launch timing puts North American players getting access mid-afternoon on the East Coast, while European players are looking at an evening drop at 7 pm GMT.
Meet Sierra, the new Recon DPS hero
The headline addition is Sierra, a Recon-class DPS hero built around target-marking and aerial repositioning. Her kit rewards patient, accurate play over brute aggression.
Here's the full breakdown of her abilities:
Her perks give players two paths to specialize. The minor perks are Full Flight (increases Anchor Drone flight and grapple range by 25%) and Tight Grip (Helix Rifle spread tightens 100% faster and widens 30% slower). The major perks are Medi-Drone (Anchor Drones carry a small health pack) and Locked In (firing Tracking Shot boosts attack speed by 20% for two seconds).
Here's the thing: the Tracking Shot into Helix Rifle auto-track combo is already drawing comparisons to Jetpack Cat's most frustrating mechanics. Some players are predicting Sierra could become the most-banned hero in ranked before the season is even a week old.
What changed from Season 1 to Season 2
Beyond Sierra, Season 2 is adding new perks to three existing heroes. Mercy gets Flash Heal, Reaper gets Dire Triggers, and Pharah gets Drift Thruster, each with updated sounds and animations to match.
The Stadium mode is also expanding. Ramattra joins at launch, Juno receives a Stadium rework, and Jetpack Cat arrives in the mid-season update. That last one should be interesting given how much friction the character already generates in standard modes.
The map voting system is getting a meaningful overhaul. Maps that receive six or more votes will now always win the vote, cutting off the minority-wins scenarios that frustrated players in Season 1. A new random map option is being added, and attacking or defending icons will now appear during the vote so you know what you're getting into before you commit. Competitive players also get a small protection: if you lose a match on a new or reworked map, the rank progress penalty is reduced.
The ten-year anniversary and what else is in the pipeline
Season 2 also marks Overwatch's ten-year anniversary, and Blizzard has hinted at events and bonus content tied to the milestone, though specifics beyond the season roadmap are still being held back.
The three-week Operation Grand Mesa event runs through the season, following Sierra's conflict against Talon in a story-driven format. The Antarctica map is getting a full rework. Post-match accolades are returning from the original Overwatch with a fresh visual design, and Blizzard is experimenting with lobby voice chat during the accolades screen, including cross-team communication with the opposing side.
On the cosmetic side, the mythic tier gets two additions: the Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin and the Sumi-ichimonji Genji weapon. A Diablo collaboration skin for Ramattra is also coming, likely tied to the mid-season update.
What most players miss in season launches is how much the systemic changes matter more than the headline hero. The map voting fix alone will change the feel of ranked queues significantly.
