August is a strong month for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The Extra and Premium game catalog just got a serious injection of quality titles, and the headliner is one that a lot of PS5 owners have been waiting on.
HELLDIVERS 2 landed in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog on August 12, available worldwide the same day the announcement dropped. That timing is not a coincidence.
The Devoid of Liberty update lands the same day
Here's the thing: Arrowhead Game Studios did not just quietly slip Helldivers 2 into a subscription catalog. The studio timed the PS Plus arrival with a major new game update called Devoid of Liberty, making August 12 a genuine event for both new players jumping in through their subscription and veterans who have been playing since launch.
For anyone who has been on the fence about Helldivers 2, the math here is pretty straightforward. A PS Plus Extra membership now gets you access to the full game, plus a fresh content update on day one of availability. That is a solid entry point.
The rest of the August Extra and Premium lineup fills out around that anchor title with some genuinely worthwhile games.
What else lands in the August catalog
The remaining titles hit the catalog on August 18, with a few exceptions rolling out August 25. Here is the full breakdown:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the other big-ticket addition here. The open-world RPG set in 15th-century Bohemia has been a word-of-mouth hit, and getting it through Extra is a genuine win for subscribers who skipped the day-one purchase.
Vampire Survivors is available on both PS5 and PS4, which makes sense given how well the game runs on basically anything. If you have somehow not played it yet, August is the time.
Hell is Us rolls out slightly later, on August 25 in the US, UK, and Japan. The third-person action-adventure game puts players in the role of a UN peacekeeper named Rémi, who goes AWOL to find his missing parents in a country overrun by mysterious creatures.
Premium tier adds two classic titles
PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers get two additional games this month sitting above the Extra tier.
Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, originally released on PS2, is now accessible on PS5 and PS4 through Premium. The feudal Japan action game follows Soki, a warrior with dark power who joins forces with allies to fight demons called Genma. It is a solid classic-era Capcom title for anyone who missed it the first time around.
Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire, based on the original PlayStation release, rounds out the Premium additions. The PS5 and PS4 version comes enhanced with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters.
Getting the most out of Helldivers 2 through PS Plus
For players jumping into Helldivers 2 fresh through PS Plus, the game has expanded considerably since launch. Arrowhead has been running a consistent content roadmap, and there is a lot to learn about how to build an effective loadout before diving into higher difficulty missions.
What most players miss early on is how much the Warbond system and booster selection affect your effectiveness in the field. If you want to get up to speed fast, the Helldivers 2 Warbonds guide breaks down which premium passes are actually worth your Medals, and the Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression roadmap covers everything Arrowhead has planned through the current update cycle, including new enemies, biomes, and vehicles.
The August PS Plus catalog is live now for Helldivers 2. The rest of the lineup follows from August 18 onward.
