Pokemon Champions launched as a purely competitive battling experience, and players are still figuring out where everything lives. Why the meta here will look different
Pokemon Champions is not carrying over every mechanic from the mainline series. The game launches with a limited Pokemon roster rather than the full 1,000-plus, and the developers have confirmed that Individual Values (IVs) have been removed from the battle equation entirely. That's a significant structural change. IVs have shaped competitive team-building for years, and their absence means the optimization ceiling works differently here.
With a smaller, curated roster and no IVs to min-max, the meta is going to develop along lines that don't map cleanly onto what competitive veterans know from previous games. The Battle Data menu becomes especially valuable in that context. Watching what the player base gravitates toward in real time is one of the fastest ways to get oriented when the usual reference points don't apply.
The developers are also actively patching the game, addressing bugs and balance issues as they surface. A notable one involved a trans Gallade appearance that has since been pulled. The meta will shift as fixes roll out, which makes the live Battle Data feed more relevant than any static tier list.

Pokemon Champions is early in its life cycle, and the player base is still working out the fundamentals.
