The deals that actually stand out
Here's the thing: most PS Store sales recycle the same catalog, and this one is no different in that respect. But that is not necessarily a problem. If you have been sitting on the fence about any of these titles, some of the discounts make the decision easy.
Back 4 Blood is down to $5.99 (90% off), which is about as cheap as a PS5 game is ever going to get. A Plague Tale: Innocence hits $7.99 (80% off), and Dead Space drops to $10.49 (85% off). The EA Motive remake of Dead Space is one of the better survival horror games of this console generation, turning the USG Ishimura into one seamless interconnected environment with full voice acting for Isaac Clarke.
Astro Bot from Team Asobi is 34% off at $39.59, which is a more modest cut for a game that launched in September 2024 and still plays brilliantly. Assassin's Creed Shadows sits at $31.49 (55% off), and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon from FromSoftware is exactly half price at $29.99.
What most players miss in a sale this size
The bigger discounts on older titles tend to overshadow some genuinely worthwhile mid-tier deals. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector from Jump Over The Age is 50% off at $12.49, and if you have any patience for text-heavy RPGs, it delivers one of the more compelling sci-fi narratives available on PS5. Castlevania Dominus Collection from Konami is 30% off at $17.49, bundling Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, and Haunted Castle into a single package that any Metroidvania fan should own.
Celeste drops to $4.99 (75% off) and Batman: Return to Arkham to $4.99 (75% off), both solid pickups at those prices. The Batman collection includes Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, two games that still hold up as benchmarks for superhero action.

The context worth keeping in mind
This sale lands at an interesting moment for PlayStation. Sony has been navigating significant pushback over its physical media direction, and a summer sale of this scale is a reminder that the digital storefront remains the primary venue for deals. The key here is that prices on physical copies at retail can sometimes undercut even these sale prices for older titles, so it is worth a quick comparison before checking out.
For anyone building out a PS5 library before GTA 6 drops later this year, this is a reasonable time to fill gaps. If you want to know exactly what PS5-specific features to expect from that release, check out our GTA 6 PS5 exclusive features guide covering DualSense haptics, Tempest 3D audio, and load times.
Starfield players on PS5 should also note that Dying Light: The Beast is 34% off at $39.59, which is a decent entry point for an open-world zombie game that commits fully to its own silliness. For everything you need to know about maximizing your PS5 setup across recent releases, our Starfield PS5 guide covers DualSense integration, the Free Lanes update, and PS5 Pro modes.
The sale runs until August 12. Browse the full list of discounts on the PS Store, and if you need help deciding what else is worth your time across platforms, our gaming guides hub has you covered.
