Threading the Needle in Forza Horizon 6 Explained

Threading the Needle is a traffic-weaving skill in Forza Horizon 6 that's easy to miss if you don't know what triggers it. Here's what it is and where to pull it off.

The Horizon Decades Festival Playlist keeps piling on daily challenges, and the "Mini in the Middle" challenge currently stumping players has one specific requirement: earn a Threading the Needle skill in any Mini. The problem is that Threading the Needle is one of those skills in Forza Horizon 6 that almost never appears organically during normal play, so plenty of drivers are hitting the roads with no idea what they're actually supposed to do.

What actually triggers this skill

The mechanic is straightforward once you know it. Threading the Needle fires when you drive between two pedestrian cars simultaneously, squeezing through the gap without making contact with either vehicle. Both directions of traffic count, so you can pull it off going with the flow or against it.

The key here is that you need two cars close enough together to form a gap, and you need to pass through that gap cleanly. Clip one of them and the skill won't register. That's it. No speed threshold, no specific road type, just a clean pass between two cars at the same time.

What most players miss is that country roads in Forza Horizon 6 are too sparse for this. Traffic density is low enough that you'll rarely find two cars sitting side by side. The highway that loops around the map is a much better bet, where multi-lane traffic naturally clusters cars together and gives you repeated opportunities without hunting for them.

The Mini challenge and which car to buy

To complete "Mini in the Middle," you need a car from the Mini lineup in the Autoshow. Three options are available at different price points:

The 1965 Mini Cooper S is the one to pick for this challenge specifically. It's the smallest of the three, which makes squeezing through traffic gaps noticeably more forgiving. The extra 9,000 credits over the John Cooper Works GP is worth it for the tighter body dimensions alone.

tip
Head to the main highway ring road and drive against traffic in the right lane. Oncoming cars tend to travel in pairs more often than same-direction traffic, giving you more gap opportunities per minute.

Where Threading the Needle fits in the skill chain

Skills like Threading the Needle feed directly into your skill chain multiplier, which means landing one mid-run can stack nicely with other bonuses. If you're already building a chain with Near Miss skills or speed bonuses, a clean Threading the Needle in the middle of traffic extends that chain and pushes your skill score higher before you bank it.

For players working through the Horizon Decades Festival Playlist rewards, this challenge is a one-and-done requirement, so you only need to trigger it once. But if you want to keep stacking skill points efficiently, the highway is genuinely one of the better grinding spots in the game regardless of which specific skill you're chasing.

If you want to build out your skill score more systematically, the Forza Horizon 6 guide on earning Speed Skills fast covers the best roads and the speed thresholds worth knowing, while the guide on earning Link Skills fast explains how to chain skills together even without other players around. Both are worth a read if the Festival Playlist has you grinding multiple challenges this week.
