Super Mario Switch 2 case ...

Glow-in-the-dark accessories have a way of hitting different. There's something about that hazy green luminescence that bypasses all rational thought and goes straight to the part of your brain that just wants things that look cool in the dark. Turtle Beach knows this, and its new Koopa Troop PlayTrek Travel Case for the Nintendo Switch 2 is proof the brand is leaning fully into that instinct.

The case was announced on March 29, and it sits squarely in the same PlayTrek lineup that already gave us the lenticular 'Mario Bricks' and 'Donkey Kong' cases. Those earlier entries used flip-angle artwork to reveal hidden Super Mario imagery. This time, Turtle Beach swapped the optical trick for phosphorescent line art: turn off the lights and the outlines of Mario and a parade of classic Super Mario series enemies glow against the predominantly silver shell.

What the Koopa Troop case actually offers

Beyond the glow gimmick, the Koopa Troop case is an officially Nintendo-licensed EVA molded clamshell. The exterior carries that signature red, orange, and yellow color banding that runs across the front, a palette that calls back to Bowser's fire breath more than coincidentally. The name 'Koopa Troop' makes the design intent pretty clear.

Here's the lowdown on what fits inside:

  • Storage for up to 12 physical game cartridges (Switch and Switch 2 compatible)
  • A fabric mesh zip pocket for smaller accessories like earbuds or charging cables
  • Enough interior space to house the Switch 2, the original Switch, or the Switch OLED
  • Red-colored game slots, red zips, and a matching handle that tie the whole design together

That last point matters more than it sounds. Most cases treat the interior as an afterthought, going all-black regardless of how expressive the outside looks. Turtle Beach carried the color story all the way through, which makes the Koopa Troop feel like a finished product rather than a licensed skin slapped onto a generic shell.

A matching controller is coming too

For anyone who wants the full Koopa Troop setup, Turtle Beach also announced a matching Koopa Troop Rematch Wireless Controller. It launches earlier, on May 4, for $64.99, and features the same artwork with integrated lighting that makes the design glow on the controller itself. The key here is that the two products share a visual identity rather than just a name, so the pairing actually looks intentional on a desk or in a bag.

Turtle Beach has been building out its PlayTrek Switch 2 accessory line at a steady pace. The Mario Bricks case launched first, followed by the Donkey Kong variant, and now this glow-in-the-dark entry. Each one has pushed a different visual trick while keeping the same interior spec and Nintendo licensing. That consistency suggests the brand has a clear product strategy around Switch 2's launch window rather than rushing out one-off designs.

What most players miss when shopping for a travel case is that the interior quality and compatibility with older Switch models matters just as much as the exterior design. A case that works across Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch 2 has a longer useful life, and the Koopa Troop delivers that alongside the nostalgia hit.
