Xbox Game Pass appears to be on the verge of announcing Cyberpunk 2077 as its next major addition, after the service's official account on X posted a teaser loaded with references to CD Projekt's open-world RPG.

The Teaser Decoded

The post, published on March 2, 2026, features a fictional internal email written by a character named "Melissa McGamepass." The message tells the "social team" to wake up because a new game is on the way, describes the upcoming addition as a "v good one," and uses the word "breathtaking" while referencing "worlds to explore."

Fans were quick to connect the dots:

  • "Wake up social team" mirrors the iconic opening line from Cyberpunk 2077's debut trailer, where Keanu Reeves' character Johnny Silverhand tells the protagonist to "wake the f*** up, samurai"
  • The bold letter "v" is a direct nod to the game's main character, simply named V
  • "Breathtaking" references the now-legendary moment at Microsoft's E3 2019 press conference, when Keanu Reeves told an audience member "you're breathtaking" during the game's promotional appearance

What This Would Mean for Subscribers

Cyberpunk 2077 has never appeared on Xbox Game Pass in the five-plus years since its release. If confirmed, this would mark the first time subscribers can access the RPG through the service at no additional cost. The game has sold 35 million copies since launch, according to Video Games Chronicle, outpacing The Witcher 3, which hit 30 million in six years.

For players who have yet to experience Night City, a Game Pass debut would be a significant entry point into one of the most talked-about RPGs of the last decade.

A Rocky Road to Redemption

It's worth remembering just how far Cyberpunk 2077 has come. When the game launched in December 2020, it was one of the most troubled releases in recent memory:

  • Three delays preceded the launch
  • The game shipped with severe technical issues, particularly on base consoles
  • Sony pulled it from the PlayStation Store entirely
  • Refunds were offered by multiple retailers
  • CD Projekt faced investor lawsuits over the state of the product

The studio spent years patching and overhauling the experience, eventually releasing the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023. The turnaround has been widely acknowledged by players and critics alike, and the 35 million copies sold figure reflects that recovery.

This isn't the first time Cyberpunk 2077 and Game Pass have been linked, either. Back in 2021, an Xbox promotional video for cloud gaming on consoles included footage from the game. At the time, CD Projekt moved quickly to deny any plans to bring it to the service. Clearly, a lot has changed since then.

Not yet. As of now, Xbox has only posted a cryptic teaser. No official announcement has been made by Xbox or CD Projekt. The March Game Pass lineup reveal is expected soon and may include a formal confirmation.

Has Cyberpunk 2077 ever been on Game Pass before?

No. Despite years of speculation and a 2021 incident where Xbox accidentally included footage of the game in a cloud gaming promo, Cyberpunk 2077 has never been part of the Xbox Game Pass library.

What platforms is Cyberpunk 2077 available on?

The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Game Pass addition would make it accessible to Xbox subscribers without a separate purchase.
