Xbox Game Pass looks set to add Cyberpunk 2077 to its library, based on a heavily coded teaser the service's official X account dropped on March 2, 2026. The post is stuffed with references to CD Projekt's open-world RPG, and fans have already decoded most of them.
The teaser decoded
The teaser takes the form of a fake internal email from "Melissa McGamepass" telling the "social team" to wake up because a new game is incoming. She calls it a "v good one" and uses the word "breathtaking" while talking about "worlds to explore."
Here's what players caught:
- "Wake up social team" echoes the opening of Cyberpunk 2077's reveal trailer, where Johnny Silverhand tells V to "wake the f*** up, samurai"
- The bolded "v" points directly at the protagonist's name
- "Breathtaking" calls back to Keanu Reeves' viral moment at Microsoft's E3 2019 conference, when he told an audience member "you're breathtaking" during the game's stage presentation
Neither Xbox nor CD Projekt has confirmed anything yet. March's Game Pass lineup announcement is expected any day now, which should settle this quickly.
What this would mean for subscribers
Cyberpunk 2077 has never been on Xbox Game Pass in the five years since it launched. If this teaser pans out, it would be the first time the RPG shows up in the service's catalog. The game has moved 35 million copies since release, beating The Witcher 3's six-year total of 30 million.
For anyone who skipped Night City the first time around, a Game Pass debut would be a low-risk way into one of the most debated RPGs of the last decade.
A rocky road to redemption
Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its disastrous December 2020 launch. Here's what that looked like:
- Three delays before the game finally shipped
- Severe technical problems, especially on base consoles
- Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store
- Widespread refunds from multiple retailers
- CD Projekt hit with investor lawsuits over the state of the product at launch
The studio spent years fixing the game, eventually shipping the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023. The turnaround has been widely recognized, and the 35 million sales figure reflects that recovery.
This isn't the first time Cyberpunk 2077 and Game Pass rumors have crossed paths. In 2021, an Xbox promotional video for cloud gaming on consoles included footage from the game. CD Projekt quickly shut down any speculation about a Game Pass release at the time. Five years later, that stance appears to have shifted.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Cyberpunk 2077 officially confirmed for Xbox Game Pass?
Not yet. Xbox has posted a teaser loaded with references to the game, but neither Xbox nor CD Projekt has made a formal announcement. The March Game Pass lineup reveal should clear things up soon.
Has Cyberpunk 2077 ever been on Game Pass before?
No. Despite years of speculation and a 2021 incident where Xbox accidentally showed footage of the game in a cloud gaming promo, Cyberpunk 2077 has never appeared in the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
What platforms is Cyberpunk 2077 available on?
The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Game Pass release would let Xbox subscribers play it without buying it separately.
