Preparing Filipinos for Digital-First Employment
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 projects that emerging technologies will generate millions of new jobs, but will also replace certain roles through automation. With digital access alone expected to create 19 million new jobs while rendering 9 million obsolete, the need for upskilling is more urgent than ever. In the Philippines, this demand aligns with national goals to expand digital employment opportunities.
DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin highlighted the importance of collaboration across government and private sectors. She emphasized that the initiative supports the country’s larger objective to build a workforce capable of contributing to the digital economy without requiring talent to leave their hometowns.
Workshops Blend Creative Experimentation and Career Development
This year’s Skill District introduces three new experiences that mix creativity, education, and industry networking.
Prompt to Prototype functions as an AI-powered game development workshop where attendees learn how to build playable prototypes using no-code tools. With guidance from Base Philippines’ developer relations lead and support from AI-powered infrastructure providers, participants will experiment with rapid game creation and take home a working project by the end of the session.
Metaversity Interactive brings together students, educators, tech companies, and government representatives for a collaborative discussion on the skills needed in the future workforce. Organizers plan to use the insights gathered to guide future educational programs and ensure curriculum relevance.
The Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) City project highlights how web3 knowledge can translate into real opportunities. Through this builder residency, more than 120 developers in Puerto Princesa learned Sui’s Move programming language. Two standout participants will present their projects onstage, offering a real-world example of how regional talent can gain visibility and access to new digital career paths.
Broader Academic Participation
Schools from across the country - including STI College BGC as an official partner - will join the Skill District. Students representing more than 10 universities will participate in sessions that expose them to the realities of careers in game development, content production, and community management. By bringing students, companies, and mentors into the same space, the Summit is positioning its Skill District as an entry point for future creators and developers.
The Summit Experience Expands Beyond Learning
After a successful debut in Manila last year, our GAM3 Awards are back in-person for 2025 at the YGG Play Summit, bringing together the world’s top web3 gaming talent, developers, and enthusiasts. Expect new categories, an expanded prize pool, and appearances from industry veterans spanning both traditional and web3 gaming.
In addition to education-focused events, esports competitions will take place at The Arena, featuring tournaments for Parallel, Vibes, and Might & Magic: Fates with a combined prize pool of USD $125,000. The Summit will also host talks from industry leaders representing Ubisoft, Sky Mavis, OpenSea, SuperGaming, Coins.ph, and others.
