Path of Exile's Mirage league introduces 40 challenges that reward you with pieces of the Orb Regalia Armour Set and the Mirage Challenger Trophy hideout decoration. You unlock cosmetic pieces at milestone totals: the Orb Regalia Boots at 12 challenges, Gloves at 20, Body Armour at 28, and Helmet at 36. In Ruthless mode, these milestones arrive much earlier at 2, 4, 6, and 8 challenges. Whether you're pushing for the full 40 or just grabbing the cosmetics, knowing exactly what each challenge demands saves you enormous time and frustration.

Challenges 1-10: Early Game and Core Mechanics

Challenge 1: Beginner's Basics

This four-part task covers fundamental currency orb usage. You need to use an Orb of Transmutation, Orb of Alteration, Orb of Augmentation, and Orb of Alchemy at least once each. These drop constantly during Acts, so this completes naturally within your first hour of play.

Challenge 2: Mysterious Mirages

This challenge introduces the core Mirage league mechanic. You must complete three steps: Choose a Wish from Varashta (the NPC who appears after you clear Afarud enemies surrounding a captured Djinn), Enter a Mirage portal, and Break the Astral Chain inside the Astral Realm. The Astral Realm is a mirrored version of your current map area with duplicated monsters and hazards. Fighting through to the Astral Chain and clearing it rewards a loot cache including Stacked Decks.

Challenge 3: Peddler's Produce I

Four vendor recipes must be completed here. None require rare currency:

  • Life or Mana Flask: Trade 3x of the same flask type to receive the next base tier.
  • Hybrid Flask: Combine 1x Orb of Fusing, 1x Life Flask, and 1x Mana Flask.
  • Ruby, Topaz, or Sapphire Ring: Trade 1x Iron Ring with a red, green, or blue gem respectively.
  • Agate, Turquoise, or Citrine Amulet: Combine two specific amulet bases (Amber, Jade, or Lapis) with 1x Orb of Transmutation.

Challenge 4: Act Adversaries I

Defeat the final bosses of Acts 1 through 5. These are story progression bosses you encounter naturally:

  • Merveil, the Twisted (Act 1, Cavern of Anger): Heavy cold damage; equip Sapphire Rings.
  • Vaal Oversoul (Act 2, Ancient Pyramid): Dodge telegraphed slams and laser beams.
  • Dominus, Ascendant (Act 3, Upper Sceptre of God): Manage blood rain in phase 1, avoid lightning in phase 2.
  • Malachai, The Nightmare (Act 4, Heart of the Beast): Dodge multiple AoE attacks and manage adds.
  • Kitava, the Insatiable (Act 5, Cathedral Rooftop): Avoid telegraphed swipes and fire breath.

Challenge 5: Beneficial Bounties

Complete four specific quests across Acts 1-4. Each grants a Book of Skill (+1 Passive Skill Point):

  • The Way Forward (Act 2, Western Forest): Defeat Captain Arteri and use the Thaumetic Seal.
  • Through Sacred Ground (Act 2, Crypt Level 2): Retrieve the Golden Hand and return it to Yeena. This one also grants 2 Passive Skill Refund Points.
  • Victario's Secrets (Act 3, Sewers): Collect all three Platinum Busts and deliver them to Hargan.
  • An Indomitable Spirit (Act 4, Mines Level 2): Locate and free Deshret's spirit, then speak to Tasuni.

Challenge 6: Desecrated Djinn

A deeper engagement with Mirage mechanics. You must Choose Wishes 5 times, Kill 10 Rare monsters inside Mirages, and Break the Astral Chain in 15 different Mirage encounters. The Astral Chain counter builds naturally as you map, so focus on running maps and engaging every Mirage encounter you find.

Challenge 7: Act Adversaries II

Defeat the final bosses of Acts 6 through 10:

  • Tsoagoth, The Brine King (Act 6)
  • Arakaali, Spinner of Shadows (Act 7)
  • Lunaris and Solaris (Act 8, Harbour Bridge): Requires both Sun and Moon orbs.
  • The Depraved Trinity (Act 9, Rotting Core)
  • Kitava, the Insatiable (Act 10)

Challenge 8: Helpful Hideaways

Visit seven specific areas: Aspirants' Plaza, Menagerie, Mine Encampment, Forbidden Sanctum, Kingsmarch, Rogue Harbour (requires a Rogue's Marker currency item), and Monastery of the Keepers. Most unlock naturally through NPC conversations during campaign progression.

Complete any three of six league mechanic encounters 30 times each. The fastest options are:

  • Activate Shrines (0/30): Shrines appear frequently in maps and campaign zones.
  • Open Strongboxes (0/30): Common in most map layouts.
  • Defeat Monsters with Essence (0/30): Click Essence monoliths three times to release and kill the empowered rare.

Challenge 10: Atlas Additions

Complete any five of eleven league mechanic encounters the specified number of times. Prioritize mechanics you already enjoy farming. Harvest (0/100) and Ritual (0/100) have higher counters but spawn reliably with appropriate Scarabs and Atlas passive investment. For Ultimatum (0/200 waves), finish 3-5 waves quickly per encounter rather than pushing for 10 every time.

Challenges 11-20: Mid-Game Progression

Challenge 11: Master Missives

Complete any two Master Mission types (Niko, Einhar, Jun, or Alva) 30 times each in Tier 11 or higher maps. Use the corresponding Scarab type to guarantee Master appearances. You earn one mission per Master daily (resetting at 00:00 UTC), plus a 35% chance to earn a random mission on map boss kill.

Challenge 12: Sacred Sigils

Choose Wishes with each of the three Djinn Sigils 50 times each:

  • Sigil of Navira (Ice/Water Djinn): Cold damage, mana regen, and shields.
  • Sigil of Kelari (Sand Djinn): Critical strike weakness, damage over time, armor break.
  • Sigil of Ruzhan (Fire Djinn): Fire spells and direct damage.

This counter builds naturally alongside Challenge 32 (Sandswept Survivor), so running high-density Mirage maps kills two birds with one stone.

Challenge 13: Cartographer's Courage

Complete a Rare Map of each tier from 1 through 16. Use Orbs of Alchemy to make maps Rare before running them. For missing tiers, check Kirac's shop or use the 3-to-1 vendor recipe (trade three maps of the same tier for one map of the next tier up).

Challenge 14: Crafting Craze

Use any 15 of 19 listed currency types the specified number of times. Most counters are modest (20-40 uses), and many complete passively during normal crafting. Prioritize Orb of Transmutation (0/40), Orb of Augmentation (0/30), Orb of Scouring (0/30), and Chromatic Orb (0/20) since these are inexpensive and used constantly.

Challenge 15: Maniacal Monsters

Defeat 200 Map Bosses in Rare Maps while they have at least 80% Item Quantity. To reach 80% IIQ consistently:

  • Roll maps with Orbs of Alchemy, then apply Chaos Orbs or Vaal Orbs to push quantity higher.
  • Choose maps with fast, easily accessible bosses such as City Square, Burial Chambers, or Promenade.
  • Rush directly to the boss once the IIQ threshold is confirmed, then exit and repeat.

Challenge 16: Deadly Deeds

Complete any five of ten high-level encounters (area level 81 or higher where possible). The most accessible options:

  • Abyssal Depths (0/5): Use Abyss Scarabs to guarantee encounters, then enter the depths and defeat the Lich.
  • Fully Completed Ultimatums (0/10): Finish wave 10 without dying, leaving the circle, or reaching 7 Ruin stacks.
  • Blighted or Blight Ravaged Maps (0/5): Use ring anointments like Freeze or Stun towers for reliable clears.

Challenge 17: Empowered Encounters

Complete any four of ten league mechanics inside Mirage zones. Each has a unique bonus reward:

  • Rituals (0/25): Mirage zones compensate for missing altars with a Favor multiplier.
  • Ultimatum Waves (0/50): Can reward Sinistral Catalyst or Dextral Catalyst.
  • Expeditions (0/15): Can drop Heroic Tragedy.
  • Smuggler's Caches (0/15): Caches near Mirage portals are duplicated inside the Astral Realm, doubling your Contracts and Blueprints.

Challenge 18: Achieve Ascension

Complete all four Labyrinth difficulties and gain a Bloodline Class:

  • Normal Lab (level 33): Complete 6 trials in Acts 1-3, defeat Izaro three times.
  • Cruel Lab (level 55): Complete 3 trials in Acts 6-7.
  • Merciless Lab (level 68): Complete 3 trials in Acts 8-10.
  • Eternal Lab (level 75): Use an Offering to the Goddess in the Map Device.
  • Bloodline Class: Defeat the corresponding endgame boss and interact with the Bloodline Altar. Bloodlines share your 8 Ascendancy Points with your primary tree.

Challenge 19: Potent Premonitions

Turn in Divination Cards for four specific reward types: Currency items (0/20), Gems (0/10), Two-Implicit Unique items (0/3), and Six-Linked Items (0/2). Cards like The Gambler (currency) and Gemcutter's Promise (gem) are affordable and widely traded.

Challenge 20: Peddler's Produce II

Four more vendor recipes:

  • Unique Item: Various combinations depending on the specific unique.
  • Orb of Fusing: Trade any 6-linked weapon or armor for 20 Orbs of Fusing.
  • Regal Orb: Sell a full set of Rare items all with item level 75-100.
  • Item with Influence: Combine 1x Astrolabe Amulet with one red, one green, and one blue skill gem for a double-influenced Onyx Amulet.

Challenges 21-30: Endgame Boss Encounters

Challenge 21: Lethal Leaders

Defeat any six of eight bosses at level 80 or higher. Key notes per boss:

  • Uber Atziri: Requires 100% reduced reflected damage (use Sibyl's Lament or Soul of Yugul). Never attack the mirror-holding copy during her split phase.
  • Izaro (Eternal): Cap elemental resistances at 75%, maintain 4,000+ HP, and destroy Charge Disruptors or Golems to prevent permanent buffs.
  • Abyssal Lich: Only Amanamu, Liege of the Lightless and Ulaman, Sovereign of the Well count for challenge credit.
  • The Vox Twins (Vic and Vinny Vox): Requires completing all of Kurai's green quest contracts first. Switch targets every 25% health loss.

Challenge 22: Coveted Currency

Use any seven of twelve Mirage-specific currency types the specified number of times. Easiest to accumulate:

  • Sinistral or Dextral Catalyst (0/20): Earned from Ultimatum encounters inside Mirages.
  • Honoured, Sacred, or Miraged Incubator (0/10): Dropped from Legion encounters in Mirages.
  • Coin of Knowledge, Power, or Skill (0/5 each): Corrupt level 20 Skill Gems with Intelligence, Strength, or Dexterity Support effects respectively.

Challenge 23: Remarkable Realms

Complete all 17 unique maps. Notable entries:

  • Vaults of Atziri: Open the Vaal Vessels rather than killing a boss.
  • The Vinktar Square: Created by vendoring all four Agnerod Staves (North, South, East, West) to an NPC.
  • Doryani's Machinarium: Typically the rarest, obtained from Delve (Ahuatotli the Blind) or specific Kirac Reports.
  • Pillars of Arun: Requires a movement skill like Flame Dash or Leap Slam to navigate the platforming layout.

Challenge 24: Succinct Scarabs

Complete Rare Tier 14+ maps with any eight of 26 Scarab types, 30 times each. Using multiple Scarabs in a single map contributes more progress per run. Focus on Scarab types that align with your preferred league mechanics to double-dip on currency farming.

Challenge 25: Glorious Gemcraft

Complete any three of four gem tasks:

  • Corrupt a gem to level 21 or 23% quality: Use a Vaal Orb on a level 20 gem. For a 21/23 gem, use the Locus of Corruption (T3 Gem Room) in Alva's Temple.
  • Use Gemcutter's Prisms (0/40): Straightforward quality improvement.
  • 300% total quality on socketed gems: With 20% quality gems, you only need 15 gems total across your equipment.
  • Level an Exceptional Gem to level 3: These successor gems to Awakened supports require significant experience investment.

Challenge 26: Cross Contamination

Four hybrid encounters combining two different league mechanics simultaneously:

  • Defeat a Breach Marshal while Delirious: Use a Breach Scarab of the Marshal plus a Delirium Orb for constant fog.
  • Defeat a Stygian Spire while affected by a Shrine: Use an Abyss Scarab of Edifice and a Domination Scarab together.
  • Defeat an Essence Monster that is Possessed: Combine an Essence Scarab with a Torment Scarab of Possession. Avoid the Speaker of the Dead Atlas node.
  • Defeat a Blight Boss while affected by a Tempest: Use a Scarab of Radiant Storms alongside a Blight Scarab of Blooming.

Challenge 27: Wishful Willing

Select any 13 of 20 available Mirage Wishes. For maximum efficiency, prioritize wishes that align with your current farming strategy:

  • Wish for Wealth / Wish for Fortune: Currency-focused rewards.
  • Wish for Scarabs / Wish for Skittering: Scarab-focused rewards.
  • Wish for Knowledge: 50% increased experience gain inside the Mirage.
  • Wish for Terror: The Map Boss is accompanied by a Pinnacle Atlas Boss from The Feared (high-risk, high-reward).

Challenge 28: Seized Strength

Defeat any seven of eleven bosses or encounters. The most accessible:

  • Catarina, Master of Undeath: Use a Syndicate Medallion map fragment.
  • Oshabi, Avatar of the Grove: Use a Sacred Blossom in the Map Device.
  • Olroth, Origin of the Fall: Found in Expedition Logbooks with the Knights of the Sun faction.
  • Saresh, The Weeping Black: The Mirage league pinnacle boss, accessed via The Black Barya in the Map Device. The Black Barya drops from Rudan, of the Afarud inside Mirage areas.

Challenge 29: Atlas Astrolabes

Complete Rare Tier 14+ maps in any four of eleven Astrolabe-shaped regions, 30 times each. Apply an Astrolabe item to a map on the Atlas to create a Shaped Region. Completing all maps in that region grants access to a Memory Vault reward. Match Astrolabe types to your preferred mechanics (Fruiting Astrolabe for Harvest, Grasping for Breaches, etc.).

Challenge 30: Tyrannical Tiers

Accumulate a total of 8,000 Map Tiers by completing maps. Running exclusively Tier 16 maps requires approximately 500 completions (8,000 divided by 16). The map boss must be killed for each run to count. This challenge completes naturally over the course of your endgame farming.

Challenges 31-40: Late Endgame Mastery

Challenge 31: Magnificent Memories

Accumulate 2,500% total Item Quantity across Rare Originator-influenced maps (identified by the implicit Area is Influenced by the Originator's Memories). These Tier 16.5 maps can roll T17-style modifiers, so build preparation matters. Use the stat filter Area is Influenced by the Originator's Memories on your Atlas to locate them.

Challenge 32: Sandswept Survivor

Break 150 Astral Chains in Mirage encounters within maps that are Rare, at least Tier 14, and have at least 100% Item Quantity. High-density maps like Crimson Temple or Promenade work well. Use Fortune Favors the Brave or Alch-and-Go strategies to hit the 100% quantity threshold efficiently.

Challenge 33: Eldritch Evocation

While in maps affected by an Atlas Astrolabe, either defeat 100 Maven-witnessed Map Bosses or activate 200 Eldritch Altars (spawned by the Searing Exarch or Eater of Worlds). Combine Astrolabe use with Maven witnessing and Eldritch influence to knock out both counters simultaneously.

Challenge 34: Vaulted Valuables

Collect any three of five reward types (Currency, Unique, Gem, Fragment, Map) from Memory Vaults, five times each. Clear a full Shaped Region on your Atlas, then speak to Eagon to access the Memory Vault. Each of the four vaults is tied to a specific Atlas quadrant, so target the quadrant linked to your needed reward type.

Challenge 35: Instigative Invitations

Complete all eight invitations with at least four modifiers each. The two invitation types with direct drop methods:

  • Screaming Invitation: Drops after defeating Map Bosses in 28/28 Tier 14+ Eater of Worlds-influenced maps.
  • Incandescent Invitation: Drops after defeating Map Bosses in 28/28 Tier 14+ Searing Exarch-influenced maps.

The remaining six (Elderslayers, Feared, Forgotten, Formed, Remembered, Twisted) require killing specific Maven-witnessed bosses, then speaking to Commander Kirac.

Challenge 36: Nightmare Nemeses

Complete any four of five Nightmare Maps with at least 175% Item Quantity. These are enhanced endgame maps featuring Uber-tier versions of major bosses:

  • Abomination Map: Nightmare of the Depraved Trinity.
  • Ziggurat Map: Nightmare of Catarina. At every 25% life lost, she summons Kurgal, Ulaman, and Amanamu as minibosses. Catarina becomes invincible until each Abyssal Lich is defeated.
  • Sanctuary Map: Nightmare of Lycia, who also summons a Nightmare of Beidat miniboss.

Challenge 37: Weeping Warlords Warfare

Defeat Saresh, The Weeping Black in three specific ways. Access him using The Black Barya in the Map Device:

  • Without Astral Chains: Use blink skills (Dash, Frostblink) to break tethers immediately.
  • Without Festering Souls: Keep moving to avoid stacking chaos-damage-over-time debuff pools. High chaos resistance is strongly recommended.
  • Without Gangrenous Mass explosions: Watch for the swelling animation on summoned masses and exit the blast radius before detonation.
  • Without Charged Soul Slam: When Saresh begins a long charging animation, move behind him or use a movement skill to clear his front arc.

Challenge 38: Tremendous Tempests

Slay Map Bosses in 75 Rare Tier 16 maps affected by an Atlas Astrolabe with at least 150% Item Quantity. Quick checklist before each run:

  1. Confirm an Astrolabe is active on the map's Atlas region.
  2. Verify the map is Tier 16 and Rare.
  3. Press Tab inside the map and check the top-right panel for 150%+ Item Quantity.
  4. Kill the final Map Boss (only this kill counts toward the 75 required).

Challenge 39: Uber Undertaking

Defeat any five of ten Pinnacle Boss Encounters at area level 85. Each Uber fight uses five specific fragments to open a harder instance:

All Uber encounters share the Monsters take 70% less damage modifier, so your build's raw damage output is critical before attempting these fights.

Challenge 40: Gallant Grinding Goals

Complete any four of five long-term grind tasks:

  • Reach Level 100: Maximize XP per hour and avoid death at all costs (deaths impose a 10% XP penalty post-Act 10 Kitava).
  • Use the Divine Font 50 times: Located in the Eternal Labyrinth final chamber. Each run provides 2 default uses; transfiguring gems, adding quality, or sacrificing gems all count.
  • Complete 1,000 Tier 16 Rare Maps with Scarabs: Even cheap Scarabs satisfy the requirement. Use Atlas nodes like Significant Troves and Amplified Artefacts to increase Scarab drops.
  • Defeat 250 Rare monsters with 4+ modifiers in Tier 16 Maps: Use Essence Scarabs of Ascent (Essence modifiers count as monster modifiers) or roll maps with the Rare monsters have additional modifiers affix.
  • Defeat 100 Map Bosses in Mirages of Rare Tier 16 Maps with 80%+ IIQ: Roll maps with Maven's Chisels to 20% quality, then Alch. Use Vaal Orbs if quantity falls short.

How Should You Prioritize the 40 Challenges?

For players targeting the full Orb Regalia Helmet at 36 challenges, focus on passive completions first. Challenges 1-10 complete almost automatically during campaign and early mapping. Challenges 11-20 require deliberate Scarab and Atlas passive investment but remain straightforward. Save the most demanding tasks (Uber Undertaking, Nightmare Nemeses, Weeping Warlords Warfare) for when your build is fully optimized.
