Pragmata ends on a gut punch the first time through. Hugh Williams sends Diana hurtling toward Earth in a shuttle while the dead filament consuming his body seals his fate. Credits roll. You sit there feeling like you just watched a good dad die for nothing. Here's the thing Capcom didn't advertise loudly: that's not the real ending. There's a second conclusion locked behind the game's post-game Unknown Signal mode, and it changes everything about how you read those final moments.
Massive spoilers for Pragmata's ending follow. Turn back now if you haven't finished the main campaign.
What is Unknown Signal in Pragmata?
Unknown Signal is a post-game mode that unlocks automatically after you finish the main campaign for the first time. You access it from the main menu by selecting "Unknown Signal" and loading your completed save file. You're dropped back into the Shelter just before the final confrontation with Eight, but the world has changed in one meaningful way: a new tram line is now active.
Take that tram and you'll arrive at the Hidden Chamber, a location that doesn't exist during the standard playthrough. Inside, a robot character called Big Cabin greets you and explains that 10 simulation pods line the room. Behind him sits a locked door. That door contains the item you need to change Hugh's fate.

Hidden Chamber pod unlock screen
The pods are all locked when you first arrive. Unlocking them requires going back out into the game's five main sectors and finishing what you started.
You don't need to replay the entire campaign from scratch. Unknown Signal keeps the final level accessible and lets you move freely between sectors and the Hidden Chamber.
How to unlock the true ending
Here's the complete process, confirmed across multiple sources including TheGamer, Deltia's Gaming, and IGN:
Step 1: Finish the main campaign
You cannot access Unknown Signal without completing the story at least once. Play through to the end, watch the standard credits, and let the save file update. That's your entry ticket.
Step 2: Enter Unknown Signal mode and visit the Hidden Chamber
From the main menu, load your completed save under Unknown Signal. Head straight to the new tram in the Shelter and ride it to the Hidden Chamber. Speak with Big Cabin to understand the mission structure. None of the 10 pods are accessible yet, so your next task is unlocking them.
Step 3: Reach 100% completion in all five sectors
This is where the real work begins. You need to return to all five main areas and fully clear them. According to Deltia's Gaming, the five sectors are the Solar Power Plant, Mass Production Array, Terra Dome, Lunum Mines, and Central Port.
Full completion in each sector means collecting:
- All Pure Lunums
- All REMs (Read Earth Memories)
- All Safe Boxes
- Clearing every Red Zone combat challenge
Mr. Cabin figures and Upgrade Components are excluded from the 100% sector completion tally, so don't lose sleep over those.
Completing each sector's collectibles and Red Zones unlocks five of the 10 simulation pods in the Hidden Chamber.
Step 4: Defeat the Mk. II sector bosses
Each sector's final boss returns in a tougher Mk. II form. According to xboxplay.games, these versions are significantly faster and introduce new "Abiosis" attack patterns not seen in the standard playthrough. Defeating all five Mk. II bosses unlocks the remaining five simulation pods.
The Mk. II bosses hit significantly harder than their original versions. Stock up on healing items before engaging. Storage Expanders found in Red Zones increase how many healing items you can carry, which makes these fights considerably more manageable.
Step 5: Complete all 10 Hidden Chamber simulation missions
With all 10 pods unlocked, head back to the Hidden Chamber and work through every simulation. IGN confirms these missions range from platforming trials to high-intensity survival rounds against waves of dead filament enemies. The key detail: there are no time limits or ranking requirements. You just need to reach the end of each one.
Big Cabin tracks your progress and adds lore context as you clear each pod. After the 10th mission, the locked door behind him opens.

Black Box mod equipped
Step 6: Equip the Black Box mod
Inside the unlocked room, you'll find two new weapons, a log entry, and the item that matters: the Black Box mod. Its in-game description, as documented by Deltia's Gaming, reads:
"Some sort of prototype memory mod. It may suppress the spread of dead filament in organic life."
In plain terms: this mod might be able to save Hugh. Open your mod menu and equip it in one of Hugh's available slots before proceeding.
Equipping the Black Box produces no immediate dialogue or gameplay effect. Don't second-guess yourself. The mod's impact only reveals itself after the credits.
Step 7: Fight Eight again at Central Port
With the Black Box equipped, travel to Central Port and engage the final boss Eight for the second time. IGN notes this version introduces hacking challenges and attack patterns not present in the original fight. Defeat Eight, proceed through the on-rails miniboss sequence, and watch the ending play out.
The sacrifice scene looks identical to the standard ending. Hugh sends Diana to Earth. Credits roll, this time filled with new concept art of Hugh and Diana that wasn't present the first time through, according to TheGamer.
What does the true ending actually show?
After the new credit artwork concludes, the screen goes black. Then you hear footsteps and a door opening. Big Cabin speaks:
"Welcome back! What's this? Travelling alone today?"
That's it. No extended cutscene, no reunion on a beach. Just that one line. But it's enough. Big Cabin only knows two people: Hugh and Diana. Diana went to Earth. The person walking through that door is Hugh, and the Black Box mod apparently suppressed the dead filament spreading through his body.

Tips for speeding up the grind
The 100% completion requirement sounds worse than it is, but a few strategies cut the time significantly.
- Use scan mode from room centers. Hugh's scan ability pulses outward and highlights collectibles through walls. Standing in the middle of larger rooms and scanning before exploring saves substantial backtracking.
- Wait for the Lim Eraser before mopping up. According to xboxplay.games, many early-sector collectibles are blocked by Lunafilament barriers. The Lim Eraser, unlocked in the Mass Production Array, clears these. Do a single clean sweep after you have it rather than multiple partial passes.
- REMs glow blue. Turning display brightness down slightly makes them easier to spot against the gray lunar environment, per xboxplay.games.
- Keep a manual save before Chapter 9. There's a point of no return at the Orbital Elevator. A manual save there means you can roll back if you realize you missed a collectible in the Lunum Mines rather than completing the entire Unknown Signal run first.
