Uncle Ben is the Chapter 3 boss standing between you and the battery you need to upgrade your weapon. He lives in the Termite Lair, he hits hard, and he refuses to stay down after the first knockdown. Beating him once is not enough. You have to do it twice.
The good news: his attack patterns are readable once you know what to look for, and your med-stims reset before Phase Two. The bad news: if you play aggressively, he will punish you for it. Here is everything you need to know to get through both phases.

Uncle Ben's Termite Lair arena
What attacks does Uncle Ben use?
Every time Uncle Ben returns from his throne, and at the start of each phase, he wears armor that you must destroy with your pickaxe before you can deal meaningful damage. Do not skip this step.
Here is a breakdown of every attack in his kit and how to handle each one:
Claw Attack
This is his standard move. He swings a claw directly at you, and the color of the indicator tells you how to respond:
- Red indicator: You must dodge. There is no countering it.
- Yellow indicator: You can counter, but it requires multiple counters performed in quick succession.
In Phase Two, he follows the first swing with a second one immediately after. After dodging the first hit, dodge again before going on the offensive.
The Claw Attack is your best damage window. Dodge behind him after the swing, land a few hits, then back off before the next move.
Spin Attack
The Spin Attack starts identically to the Claw Attack, which is what makes it dangerous. After the initial swing, he keeps spinning instead of stopping. Players who rush in after the first swing get caught by the follow-through constantly.
Keep your distance whenever he winds up for any attack. If you are already close, dodge away immediately.
Crossbow Attack
Uncle Ben pulls out a crossbow and tracks you with it. His aim appears as a white line that turns red just before he fires. You have two options:
- Dodge past him to step out of the firing line entirely.
- Wait and dodge the moment the line turns red to roll under the shot.
There is a third option worth knowing: if your gun is charged, shooting him cancels the Crossbow Attack outright.
Charge Attack
He charges straight at you. Dodge out of the way. In Phase Two, he charges twice in a row, so you need two consecutive dodges rather than one.
Do not dodge too early on the Phase Two double charge. Wait until the first charge is almost on you before committing to the first dodge, then immediately dodge the second.
Mine Attack
While seated on his throne, Uncle Ben fires three mines at you. They either hit you directly or land on the ground and create large red circles you need to avoid.
The most reliable counter is to hide behind one of the broken pillars in the arena. He wastes all three mines destroying the pillar instead of hitting you.
How do you beat Uncle Ben in Phase One?
The core rule for this entire fight is to play defensively. Uncle Ben deals heavy damage and strings attacks together. Going in swinging is how you die fast.
Your approach should follow this rhythm:
- Wait for an attack to finish.
- Dodge into a safe position, usually behind him.
- Land two or three hits maximum.
- Back off and reset.
Use your gun whenever you have an opening. According to the source guide from TheGamer, it deals significant damage and is worth firing every chance you get. Do not save it.
Your med-stims fully replenish before Phase Two begins. You do not need to hoard them in Phase One, but you also do not want to burn them recklessly on avoidable hits.
How does Phase Two change the fight?
Once his health drops to zero the first time, Uncle Ben gets back up. This is not a bug. You have to beat him a second time to finish the fight.
Three of his attacks get upgraded in Phase Two:
- Claw Attack now includes a second swing after the first.
- Charge Attack now comes as a double charge instead of one.
- His overall aggression increases.
The strategy stays the same: patience, dodge first, attack after. For the Claw Attack in Phase Two, dodge behind him after the first swing, then dodge back to avoid the second before hitting him. For the Charge Attack, wait and execute two dodges back to back.
