Resident Evil Requiem Complete ...

Shadow Ghost, also called The Girl, is the first boss you'll face in Resident Evil Requiem (RE9), and she's unlike anything else in the game. You can't brute-force your way through her with guns blazing. Instead, every encounter demands patience, smart use of your environment, and a solid grasp of her key weakness: light. Here's everything you need to survive all three run-ins with this terrifying enemy.

Understanding Shadow Ghost's Core Weakness

Before jumping into each encounter, you need to know the one rule that governs every Shadow Ghost fight: she cannot enter well-lit areas. Light physically hurts her, forcing her to retreat whenever you step into a bright zone. This single mechanic shapes every decision you'll make across all three encounters.

She also reacts heavily to sound. Moving normally will draw her attention fast, but crouching lets you slip through most areas undetected. Think of it like this: light is your shield, silence is your cloak.

Encounter 1: Care Center (No Weapons)

Your first meeting with Shadow Ghost happens in the Care Center, and the bad news is you're completely unarmed at this point. You cannot defeat her here. Your only goal is to solve the puzzle and restore power to the exit door.

How to Escape the Care Center

Here's the step-by-step path through this opening gauntlet:

  1. When Shadow Ghost appears in the Prep Room after you enter Room 201, immediately head to Room 203 (where Grace first woke up) to lose her.
  2. Once the chase settles, return to the Prep Room and move to the Nurses' Station. Push the cart close to the cabinet to reach the Toolbox above it. Be aware: moving the cart makes noise and will attract her.
  3. When she comes to investigate, hide under the small corner table and wait for her to leave before climbing up to grab the Screwdriver.
  4. Heading back to Room 201 for the Fuse? She'll be camping the hallway. Retreat to Room 203, wait for her to destroy the light, then throw a Glass Bottle down the hall to pull her away before sneaking back.
  5. Use the Screwdriver on the fuse box in Room 201 and grab the Fuse. A cutscene will trigger and spawn her from the ceiling immediately after.
  6. Sprint straight to the door with the missing Fuse slot at the end of the hallway near the Horse Statue. Insert the Fuse to clear the area.

Encounter 2: Care Center Basement

This second encounter is largely story-driven. The Shadow Ghost that Leon dealt with earlier gets revived and follows Emily into the Care Center Basement. You won't fight her directly here. She's eventually eliminated once you successfully rescue Emily, so focus on progressing through the area rather than confronting her.

Encounter 3: Water Treatment Plant (Final Boss Fight)

This is where things get serious. The Water Treatment Plant features a completely different, far more aggressive Shadow Ghost. Your objective here is to restart three Power Distribution Units scattered across the facility, which will let you open a roof hatch and expose her to direct sunlight for the kill.

Step-by-step breakdown:

  1. Press the roof hatch switch first. It won't open, but it marks all three Power Distribution Unit locations on your Map, making navigation much easier.
  2. Head to the lower floor. Shadow Ghost will move toward you immediately. Toss an empty glass bottle in the opposite direction to distract her before proceeding.
  3. Go to the Storage Area first since it's the most straightforward. Activate the light near her position to freeze her in place, then flip the lever.
  4. Move to Chemical Treatment next. There's a free Molotov sitting on a cart near the lever. Grab it, throw it at Shadow Ghost to stun her, then work the heavy lever while she's temporarily stopped.
  5. Head to the Control Room for the final unit. The lever is missing, so check the Filing Room (accessible from the same room) to grab the Crank Lever before returning.
  6. She'll physically throw you away from the unit if you're not careful. Exit the room, lure her into one of the lit areas, then return and place the Crank Lever once she takes the bait.
  7. Take the elevator back up and approach the roof hatch switch. Shadow Ghost will appear one final time. Turn on the light aimed at the switch to stop her, then open the hatch.
  8. With sunlight now flooding the area, shoot her down. Save your special ammunition for other fights and use a standard handgun to finish her off.

What's the Best Way to Handle Shadow Ghost Without Weapons?

During the Care Center section where you have no firearms, your toolkit is limited but effective. Glass Bottles are your best friend here. Every time she blocks a path you need to cross, throw a bottle in the opposite direction and she'll investigate the noise, giving you a clear window to move. Combine this with crouching to minimize the sound you make while repositioning.

Should You Shoot Shadow Ghost During the Water Treatment Plant?

Yes, but only to immobilize her temporarily, not to kill her outright. Shooting her buys you a short window to interact with levers or move through blocked areas. The actual kill only happens after you open the roof hatch and expose her to sunlight. Until that moment, bullets slow her down but won't end the fight.

Final Thoughts on Shadow Ghost

Shadow Ghost is one of RE9's most creative boss designs because she forces you to think differently. There's no health bar to chip away at and no weak point to exploit with the right weapon. Every encounter is a puzzle wrapped in a horror chase, and once you understand that light controls her movement and silence controls your detection, the fights become far more manageable. Take your time, plan each move before committing, and don't panic when she spots you. The light is always nearby.
