Getting two Miis to the altar in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream takes patience, a steady hand during a space shooter minigame, and a little luck when your Mii finally pops the question. You cannot force a proposal, but you can absolutely stack the odds in your favor. Here is everything you need to know to get your Miis married and what unlocks once the wedding bells ring.
What are the requirements to get married in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream?
Before any proposal can happen, two Miis must already be sweethearts. That means one Mii needs to have confessed their feelings and had those feelings returned. No confession, no path to marriage.
Beyond the relationship status, according to Game8's marriage guide for Living the Dream, there are two hard requirements worth knowing:
- Dating preferences must align. Marriage is possible regardless of gender, as long as each Mii's dating preference settings are compatible with the other's gender.
- Both Miis must be 18 or older. Any Mii created with an age below 18 is considered a child and cannot marry. You can edit a Mii's age at any time to meet this threshold, or simply wait for them to age naturally.
If you want two specific Miis to end up together, set them as each other's real-life partner in their profile. According to Game8, this meaningfully increases the chance of them becoming sweethearts and eventually wanting to marry.

Sweetheart status is required
How to trigger a marriage proposal
Once two Miis are sweethearts, the relationship label you are watching for is "Wants to Marry!" This label signals that feelings have grown far enough that a proposal could happen. Reaching this stage is not instant. It requires you to keep the couple's bond strong over many in-game days.
The most reliable way to speed things up, as documented by Eurogamer's guide to Living the Dream, is to keep pairing the couple together and making them interact repeatedly after the "Wants to Marry!" label appears. The more they interact, the sooner one of them will want to talk to you.
When the moment arrives, you will get a notification that one of the Miis wants to speak with you. Find them and you will see hearts floating around their head. If this is the Mii with the marriage intent, the Proposal Shooter minigame will launch.
Even after you complete the minigame successfully, the other Mii can still say no if their feelings are not quite where they need to be. A failed proposal means an embarrassed Mii and a waiting period before you can try again.
How to beat the Proposal Shooter minigame
The Proposal Shooter is a short space shooter-style challenge where your job is to keep the proposing Mii's mind focused on their partner. Here is how it works, stage by stage:
- Use the Left stick to move the Mii left and right.
- Press A to shoot any thought bubbles that are not about their partner.
- At the end of each stage, a large bubble containing their partner's face will appear. Do not shoot this one. Instead, guide your Mii directly into it so their thoughts fill with their partner.
- Repeat this across three stages to complete the minigame.
Complete all three stages and the proposal cutscene plays out. If the other Mii says yes, the wedding follows automatically.
You must avoid shooting the partner bubble at the end of each stage. Hitting it counts against you, so pay attention as the stage wraps up and the large bubble appears.

What happens after the wedding?
Once the wedding takes place, the couple goes on a honeymoon to a random destination. Eurogamer notes that you can take photos during the honeymoon and save the full honeymoon reel directly to your Nintendo Switch gallery at the end of it. Worth doing.
After returning, the married couple can move in together if they were not already sharing a home.
What unlocks after your first island wedding?
Your first wedding on the island triggers several permanent unlocks across the island's shops, as confirmed by both Eurogamer and Game8:
These only unlock after your first wedding, so if you have been holding off on letting anyone get married, know that you are locking yourself out of these items in the meantime.
Can married couples have children?
Yes. After getting married, the couple may announce they want to have a baby. According to Game8, having a child actually strengthens the relationship and lowers the chance of the couple fighting or divorcing while they are raising the baby together. Same-gender married couples can also have a baby in Living the Dream.
Marriage tips worth knowing before you start
- Do not neglect the relationship after "Wants to Marry!" appears. Couples at this stage can still fight or, worse, initiate a divorce if you stop paying attention. Keep mediating any conflicts that come up.
- Age edits work at any time. If a Mii you want to marry is under 18, you can edit their age directly rather than waiting for real time to pass.
- The proposal can fail even after a perfect minigame. This is tied to the other Mii's feelings, not your minigame performance. If it fails, give the couple time and keep them interacting before trying again.
- Honeymoon photos are missable. Save the reel to your Switch gallery before exiting, because there is no indication you will get another chance to retrieve it afterward.
