Khiimori Kickstarter Campaign ...

The Legend of Khiimori puts your horse at the absolute center of everything you do. This is not a typical open-world RPG where your mount is just a fast travel button. Your horse is a living system with six trackable wellbeing bars, a full set of trainable skills, inheritable personality traits, and a genuine capacity to refuse your commands if you treat it poorly. Get these mechanics wrong and you will spend your courier runs crawling across the Mongolian steppe on an exhausted, furious animal. Get them right and you will build a specialized stable capable of handling any delivery route the game throws at you.

What Are the Six Horse Wellbeing Bars?

Every horse tracks six distinct meters that you need to keep within safe ranges. Letting any one of them drop too low will hurt your horse's performance, and in the worst cases, bring your run to a complete stop.

  • Health sits beside your horse's portrait icon and decreases from stamina depletion, temperature debuffs, starvation, dehydration, and animal attacks.
  • Stamina drains whenever you gallop, especially on rough terrain. Flat ground preserves it far longer than rocky or snowy surfaces.
  • Food depletes naturally over time. Horses eat hay and berries, so stock both before long routes.
  • Water drops during travel. Riding directly into any river or puddle while still mounted triggers an automatic drinking animation, which is the fastest hydration method available.
  • Mood affects speed directly. A low mood horse will slow to a walk or stop running entirely. Petting, brushing, and hoof tending all restore mood, each with its own cooldown timer.
  • Temperature shifts based on your current biome. Snowy mountain passes drain it fast and damage health. Desert heat spikes it upward and forces heavy water consumption. Crafted tonics counter both extremes.

How Does Horse Care Actually Work?

The care wheel opens by pressing Q when you are standing close to your horse. It contains five distinct actions.

  • Watering requires your horse to be near a water source, or you can simply ride into water for the automatic drink.
  • Feeding pulls from your hay and berry inventory. Keep a consistent supply in your saddlebags.
  • Petting raises mood and carries a cooldown before it can be used again.
  • Brushing raises mood and removes the dirt debuff that accumulates after riding through muddy terrain.
  • Tending hooves raises mood and also clears the dirt debuff picked up from muddy landscapes.
  • Healing uses tonics and bandages to address injuries and ailments. Both items are purchasable at general shops inside settlements.

If your horse's mood is stuck at zero despite feeding and watering it, the issue is almost always an unresolved debuff. Check for injuries, poison, or a dirt status, fix the root cause first, then run the full brushing or hoof care progress bar to completion.

What Are the Five Horse Stats and How Do You Train Them?

Every horse carries five trainable skills. These numbers increase passively as you expose your mount to specific environmental conditions during normal deliveries.

You can check your horse's current skill values at any time by pressing O to open the horse profile menu.

How Do Personality Traits Affect Your Deliveries?

Traits are behavioral patterns that sit on top of the numerical stats and change how your horse reacts to specific conditions during a ride. Foals inherit traits randomly from both parents, so your breeding choices directly shape the temperament of your future stable.

Here are some confirmed trait examples from player-tested horses:

  • Nocturnal grants a significant mood boost during nighttime travel.
  • Lazy causes mood to drop when you force a sustained gallop.
  • Galloper boosts mood while galloping, the direct opposite of Lazy.
  • Drinker increases water consumption rate, meaning this horse needs more frequent hydration stops.
  • Wind Spooked tanks mood when the horse is exposed to strong winds on open ridges.

Read every horse's profile card before committing to a long route. A Wind Spooked horse is a serious liability on an exposed mountain crossing. Pairing two anxious or negatively-traited horses in a breeding session risks producing foals that carry multiple performance-draining quirks.

Which Starting Breed Should You Buy?

After completing the tutorial, Yisu gives you coin to purchase your first real mount from the horse trader. Three breed options are available at this stage.

  • Ferghana is the strong horse. Its high Strength stat lets you haul heavier cargo loads without exhausting the animal quickly. This is the recommended starting choice for most players because early deliveries reward cargo volume.
  • Akhal Teke is the fast horse. Its high Agility stat suits light, rapid deliveries across flat plains and gives you a better chance of outrunning predators.
  • Mongolian is the balanced horse. Its stats sit evenly distributed, making it a solid all-rounder without excelling in any single area.

None of these choices are permanent. You can sell older horses back to the trader once your breeding program produces superior foals.

How Does Breeding Work in The Legend of Khiimori?

Breeding is the primary long-term progression system for building a capable stable. The barrier to entry is intentionally steep.

Requirements before you can breed:

  • A minimum of three horses in your possession
  • At least one stallion and one mare among them
  • 1,000 coins per horse purchased from the trader if you need to fill roster slots
  • 20 coins per mating session fee

Once you pay the mating fee, gestation takes one full in-game day. Sleeping in the nearby shack until sunrise skips the wait. Your foal spawns at the gate on the left side of the breeding station. You can enter the pen to interact with it, but it cannot be ridden yet. After roughly three in-game days, the foal matures into a usable delivery mount.

Traits from both parents pass down to the foal randomly, so keep detailed mental notes on which horses carry positive traits before arranging a breeding session.

How Do You Balance Saddlebags Without Injuring Your Horse?

Every item you carry has weight, and that weight must be distributed evenly across both sides of the saddle. The balance indicator in the inventory UI shows an arrow that you need to keep sitting in the green zone.

  • Move items from left to right (or right to left) until the arrow centers.
  • An off-balance load makes your horse tire out dramatically faster and significantly increases the risk of a leg-breaking trip.
  • Each horse breed has a different total weight capacity, so a high-Strength mount can carry loads that would cripple a lower-Strength animal.

Biome Matching: What Horse Should You Use for Each Route?

Once your stable grows, selecting the right horse for each delivery becomes a genuine strategic decision. The wrong animal on the wrong route will cost you time, supplies, and potentially the horse's health.

  • Snowy mountain routes demand high Endurance to survive the temperature drain and high Strength to push through deep powder and steep slopes.
  • Desert crossings punish low Endurance horses with rapid health loss from heat and require frequent water stops for high-Drinker trait horses.
  • River crossing routes benefit from high Strength, which determines how well your horse handles strong currents and deep water.
  • Fast urban or plains deliveries suit high Agility mounts that can maintain a gallop efficiently on hard surfaces.

Check the in-game weather forecast before pulling a horse from the stable. Sending a fragile, Agility-focused sprinter into a blizzard is a reliable way to end a delivery run early.
